Numerous high level coaches say that wrestlers make some of the best athletes for their crazy good conditioning

      @@ewoutstorm4626 "toughest" means a lot of things. I would argue rowing is absolutely one of the toughest cardiovascular endurance sports there is. A "fighter" wouldn't come close to the cadiovascular output required of an Olympic level rower. And by no means is a rower "tough" enough to compete against an elite fighter. "Toughness" to me means a combination of cardiovascular endurance, athleticism and perhaps, most important of all, mental fortitude - and putting all of that together in a singular event... that is toughness. Cycling, cross-country skiing and rowing require a level of mental toughness not many athletes can touch.

    That tortuous experience where you have no control over your limbs is something a person never forgets. I also remember times going in and out of consciousness but kept going just out of muscle and training memory. And there is nothing like being in a boat of 4 or 8 people where you might not be the fittest guy in the boat but you do not want to be the reason why your boat loses so you're trying so summon the demons from within to help you keep up with or push harder than the team. So grueling. And when you cross the finish line I don't remember every being as happy about winning as much as knowing that the torture would soon stop (but never immediately stops)

  • @nicalicanri
    @nicalicanri 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Yeah after my first 1st place finished I couldn't stop crying. The feeling of months of work paying off, and seeing my coach jumping up and down on the dock. Couldn't even take a full breath but was sobbing like a baby. And I could never imagine missing the opportunity of missing a metal, coming back to your home country that had the hope and belief that you would metal, and returning with nothing. Haunting is a good word to describe it.

    • @Rover200Power
      @Rover200Power 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Depends on the work. Classic sessions are 24k around rate 18 "stead state", 30 minutes rate 20 (Pinsents record for that was over 9,000m at altitude). 5km flat out and 2km flat out. Standard will be around 15:30 for 5km and 5:50 for 2km.

    • @richardking7058
      @richardking7058 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Know I'm a bit late but splits are in the region of 1:49 (if I remember correctly Barnabe Delarze pulls 1:45) for their steady state, which is the bulk of what they're doing. They're doing roughly 40k a day of SS plus a weights session, bike or a higher intensity piece. I'd imagine they do very few high intensity pieces because at altitude fatigue builds up really quickly and recovery takes longer.

    Olympic rowing events @2000m are like 400 m ‘dashes’,run with 5 lb weights in each hand. 4 milers are middle distance, and 15+ milers are long distance, and very few of those.Very few big men, and women, convert oxygen at such a rate. Cross country skiers are comparable, but not many are as big, ie for heavyweight men the average height is 6’3” +. I’m less familiar with the women but I would think 5’11” or more.

    I don't really understanding rowing, so forgive me. But what impact does the drag setting have and how are you supposed to know which level to use?

    • @APerson-co7er
      @APerson-co7er 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ItsLloydM8 It’s meant to simulate the drag in a boat on the water due to factors like weight. The higher the drag factor, the more resistance there is, but the lower splits you pull. GB Rowing tests are 138, my high school did 112-120.

    • @ItsLloydM8
