    Imagine being the Edge playing the opening chords of Streets, watching one of your closest mates cry for his father. Imagine what he'd be feeling in that moment, as it's perfectly reflected on his face. He knew they were making history. This is THE U2 Performance, THE ultimate performance of Streets.

    Bono's Dad died 2 days before this gig. Everyone thought it would be called off so there was some surprise when it went ahead. It was a seriously emotional night and that comes through on the DVD. Probably the greatest gig ever.

    • @oneblinddog
      @oneblinddog 8 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      +Andeez Anderson - This is THE concert performance to watch. You are right, the emotion comes through stronger and more real than any other. Bono is a showman, a performer, but this night, through his performance his raw self comes out, and the audience is right there with him - howling, crying, celebrating, tearing at the fabric life and stitching it back together and healing - there was SO much cathartic expression and healing in this night. It is the greatest gig. It breaks my heart and make me sing with joy at the same time.

    I was at this concert! Slane, Ireland. It was the most incredible experience I have ever had. The crowd was with every word, and the venue, on castle grounds, with all that would happen after this concert, Bono's father passed away, 9/11 in the USA, and so many things, it was just amazing to see such raw spirits from the band, and to be there for the all day concert. Amazing and I will NEVER forget how it changed my world.

    Undoubtedly the greatest U2 performance ever. Given his dad's passing at the time and the fact that they were performing at home, it was a cocktail of emotions that is clearly heard in Bono's voice throughout the evening, but especially at that magical transition for Streets. Mark Laverish I will forever regret not seeing them. I bought my ex and I tickets but we obviously broke up months later. I was too nice and told her to go ahead and enjoy them as they were a gift, blah blah. In hindsight - fuck that. I'm the guy who has all their albums, watches their videos like this weekly, etc.
      Oh well. My point is - be happy you saw them, and not only saw them, but 5 times man! I'm jealous!

      I had a similar story except my sister Colleen committed suicide at age 40. We used to attend U2 concerts together as she introduced U2 to me about 47 years ago. I sang a U2 song to my sister by her gurnee at the burn unit in SF ICU. I played, "All I Want Is You" and I sang It softly by her ear not exposed. She was wrapped from head to toe with bandages like a mummy with swollen slitted eyes and only one big toe sticking out. She held on hard so my husband and I could fly back to say goodbye to her as we learned this news on our vacation. After the song came to an ending my mom screamed "I love you!" and then she flatlined.
      Your story resignated / resignates something powerful within me. Sorry for your loss. Music can bring out a hidden memory not faced, especially the band U2.
      Bono and band will always carry on for generations to come. When I hear one of U2's songs at the grocery store, dentist office, playing in a car etc. I know my deseased sister is by my side. Blessings to you.

    Please, let me tell you my story of being at this gig... My best friend and I got fake tickets (young and dumb). There are 4 ticket checkpoints going into Slane Castle gigs, we made it past 3 and we were buzzing. 4th checkpoint, we were rumbled. Side gates unbolted and unceremoniously kicked out. Embarrassed and gutted we started walking back to the buses hoping we could get one home to Dublin. Then... we got a call from our friend who said....
    F:"Where are you?"
    Me: "We got kicked out"
    F:"Come to the backstage gate I have two backstage passes for yous!"
    No fu*king joke. From the bottom to the top with one sentence. We drank, were fed and smoked it up backstage in this little camper van as we watched all the famous people coming and going to the stage, it was awesome. Also, it was a beautiful day (ahem), the sun was shining and before the gig they showed an Ireland -V- Holland football match on the big screens. We won!! Jason McAteer goal. 1- 0 to get Ireland into the World Cup Finals Playoffs. The 80,000 crowd went insane when the Irish scored. An amazing moment. And then THAT gig. This video does it great justice, it really was special. Of course, everyone knew Bono's dad had just passed and there was just something in the air.. like as if it was an Irish wake, There was defo an appreciation for Bono not cancelling the show. People would have understood if he did. And they just played out of their skins. I remember that pint being thrown at Bono.. (and his funny reaction) we were in that section of the crowd. I remember the long note he held at the end of 'All I want is you' which seemed to come from very deep down. And I remember the Streets kicking in. I was 21. I was happy. I was with the best friends. And it was a truly magical moment. And I'll never forget it. Thanks, U2

      Well, Coldplay, a band heavily influenced by U2, is doing halftime, so it should still be a good show.

    Now I am 49 years old. My first u2 album was Joshua tree. Since 1987 I am a totally u2 fan. In the later 90s the music style was not mine. But the last albums go back to their roots. But where the streets have no name is Unsurpassed. In this live act the 2 minutes between this great songs is unbelievable. Thanks u2 for your unbelievable and unforgettable music. Greetings from Austrian

    The transition and the fact that the audience can accent it well makes this my favorite U2 live performance in general.
