Well everyone to his own taste but here's a contrary opinion. I found it absolutely lovely. I never got Scotto because, later in her career, she was a bit shrill at the top end and I never saw her live. Here I see the stage presence. I hear her sing this as if she were, indeed enchanted by that vision of a land of delight, just a short distance away from us all. Since the music is not way above the scale, even her voice charms me no end. I'd say this performance is a keeper.
Scottish makes this at once a Puccini and a Delibes aria. Channeling a cross between Suor Angelica and Lakme. A fascinatingly beautiful and bizarre Italian accented opera style performance of this incredible composition from Arlen.
Madame Scotto was a natural born Diva! It is what set her apart from the herd in the late 70's and 80's .She knew how to become a character and live in the musical moment. She ain't no farm fed little gal from Kansas and has sense enough to not try to be. She enchants here none the less!
