This whole "Nick Fury broke his promise" backstory is literally because the writers of Captain Marvel screwed up by having the Skrulls be the misunderstood good guys. They cared more about making them a refugee allegory despite them becoming genocidal maniacs in Secret Invasion. Sticking with the comics would have saved them a huge headache.

I genuinely wonder if the 'theme' they were aiming for was an attack on Obama. Like, the writers are trying to make Fury an Obama surrogate and the story is supposed to be some kind of 'you promised a tonne of stuff but it never happened' message.

"sticking with the comics would've saved them a huge headache." is how you can describe basically the whole MCU if I'm being honest. some diversion is ok, you can't tell a characters full story that's been going for 50 years plus in just a few hours.
But by phase 3 the set-ups were already ruined because they strayed too far.

@@casbynessI'm just waiting for the writers to go full mask-off and have Black Panther 3 be a full-on Helter-Skelter race war where all white men are genocided while all the white women side with the superior black men.

@@casbyness see the issue there is the show is critical of Nick Fury, but marvel at this point is drinking so much koolaid even Utgard-Loki would need to refill the horn for them. The concept that any democratic leader could possibly be in any way flawed is a concept I frankly don't believe anyone at marvel could possibly entertain without blue-screening, geeting beach-balled, or having their kernel bail out on them

I looked this up the minute I heard Nick say “no one calls me Nick”.
There are 21 instances of people referring to him just as “Nick”.
Tony, Steve, Natasha, Hill, and Pierce all call him Nick across Avengers, Age of Ultron, Infinity War, and Winter Soldier. It took me 5 minutes.

Here’s the thing about living space for the Skrulls:
According to a quick google search, in order to live self sufficiently and comfortably a person would need 5-6 acres of land.
If skrulls are comparable to humans that means that at most the skrulls would need 6,000,000 acres of land. That is less than the size of the 6th smallest US state, Vermont. And for comparison, the city of Manhattan is only 15,000 acres and is home to 1,600,000 people.
All it would take is one large city in the middle of nowhere US and the skrulls could live by themselves.

    • @matthiuskoenig3378
      @matthiuskoenig3378 ปีที่แล้ว +9

To add to the hilarity of this, they already live in Russia, you know, the nation so vast and large there are entire towns that go unaccounted for?
A land where most of the population lives on less than half the nation and where you can find entire towns and even (industrial)cities abandoned and empty with old but still workable facilities for self sufficiency.
And considering the tech levels of the MCU I'm surprised they couldn't just settle in a giant raft in the ocean or found a nation among the fluid borders post-snap like Asgard did

Also, if Fury was such a shitty human being for breaking his promise that it justified Skrulls committing mass murders and tried to genocide the whole world, why is it totally fine to downright heroic that the Wakandans broke their promise about giving the vibranium to the world and it’s those countries’ fault for being mad at them?

this show is fundamentally broken, if fury really worked with the skrulls for the amount of time that the show tells you, he would have plan after plan for every kind of situation involving them.
he would know their weaknesses, how to identify them, how to deal with them and who to call for help, but since they needed him to be incompetent, he doesn't have any of that.
if this was the old nick fury this show would have been categorized as "horror" instead of a spy drama because that's what the skrulls would have felt.

There’d have been an Order-66 in place, probably even a bioweapon genetically engineered to target Skrull DNA. That’s what I don’t buy about this series: CA Winter Soldier Fury had multiple Helicarrier gun platforms with the ability to target specific individuals, and he was totally ok with having them. You’d think he’d have factored in that making judgement calls that 100 shapeshifting spies could easily embedded themselves in all operational roles.
Retcons suck generally, this whole Skrull refugees as spies for 30 yrs is a next level retcon beyond just minor aspects.

Yeeeep. Even if Fury only saw an Skrull once. He'd still have Shapeshifter protocols. And weren't there Skrull bodies left behind in the wake of Captain Marvel's Roaring Rampage? It's been 30 years! Humanity has enough tech and bio material to grow artificial Skrulls in a lab. No way Fury can't detect them.
The plot should be that the Skrulls developed some sort of counter measure to the detection method. Which gave them just enough of an advantage to catch Fury by surprise ONCE. And then never again.

And don't forget that the show itself seems to undermine that in its FIRST episode, by saying that the best way for Skrulls to go undetected is by sticking to one form. Effectively making them ON THE SAME LEVEL AS HUMANS. The Skrulls couldn't have been the entire basis of Fury's successful career. By the show's own logic -- I'm sorry I'm repeating myself, it's just so monumentally _stupid_ I'm struggling to fully process it.

One of the worst parts of this show that doesnt get mentioned is when they are doing the whole race baiting conversation with Rhodey and Fury and they refer to Alexander Pierce as a mediocre white man. The Message aside, Pierce and Fury's relationship is from Winter Soldier. It was one of the best parts of a great film. Mutual respect and friendship that blows up with the revelation of his involvement in Hydra. Even at the end, neither seem to hate one another. They have similar goals and willingness to do anything to achieve them - just opposite ends of spectrum. Pierce regrets everything he had to do to his friend, but believes in his cause and what needs to be done. All this complexity in just one film that ends with Fury having to kill what looks like his only friend and only person he really trusted. All reduced to a mediocre white man line in a race baiting scene.

Strongly agree, and would even go farther: the statement reflects a world view that is totally innapropriate for the characters to have.
That is, Fury, and indeed everyone in the general super-person world, is well aware in the post-Winter Soldier era that Pierce came within, what, minutes of achieving Project Insight? He almost put Hydra (and thus himself) as the supreme power on Earth. It's fair to say Pierce is evil, a schemer and an out and out murder, but... mediocre?
How? Like, in what sense of the word is the head of Hydra, who wormed his way into the highest levels of power in both the USA and internationally, mediocre?

Over the course of two seasons the skrulls kidnap members of the Avengers and the Fantastic 4, and the revelation of a mole in the Avengers by a rogue Nick Fury splits up the team and causes some genuinely great character drama. You can have something like the 'Skrull Collective' and when the story begins, they are on the uptake and are rebuilding their Empire after the war with the Kree.
They spot Earth and learn that the 'traitors' have fled there. Now, not only would the protagonists not know who is Human or Skrull, but even the Skrull wouldn't know who is a Refugee and who is a special agent, sent to destabilize Earth for conquest.

Slightly spoilery but : after Hydra is revealed as being inside of shield Coulson works with Fury to take down the Clairvoyant, a high ranking Hydra organizer who was always aware of things they shouldn't have been. They were so secretive that even describing their voice, in any capacity, would net you a death sentence. After Fury parts ways with Coulson again, he gives Coulson a vibranium cube, no larger than a one of those fluffy novelty dice. That cube was a full backup of Shield's archives, all of their safe houses, all of their information, etc. So, working with his team and the information on that cube, Coulson rebuilt shield from the ground up (even having a few civil wars along the way) on his own, with his team and a handful of disparate Shield agents still loyal to the original cause.
By the end the show does start to go a bit wildly off the rails, so I doubt they could say the entire thing is canon, but if Coulson walked in and said "hey guys" he would quite literally be a better Shield operative than Fury ever was if this show is canon. He rebuilt the entirety of Shield from the ground up on his own with his tiny rag tag team, whereas Fury just rose the ranks of the pre-existing Shield using his little skrull spy army he extorted.

You'd be pretty unlikely to run into them in Russia or America. Also on the subject of photorealistic drawings being unviable for Skrullification, what about photos with a filter applied? Does altering a photo make it unusable to a Skrull? Can the Skrull powers tell if someone had coloured contacts in and stop them for transforming? What about hair dye?

The fact that Korg was on the list of DNA that Fury collected is a nice microcosm of how badly written the show is.
Firstly, it’s _Korg._ No wonder nobody seems to respect Fury anymore. In a post-Thanos world, he dedicated resources to collecting DNA from _fecking_ _Korg._
Second, he’s made of _rocks._ Where is there even any DNA to collect? And yes, we know from the movies that he’s rock all the way through. We saw another of his race get obliterated in Thor 2, and he was nothing but rock. Korg should have about as much DNA as a cinderblock. It makes about as much sense for him to be on that list as Cap’s shield or Thor’s hammer.

Unlike rocks, but like animals and fungi, plants are alive and have cells with nuclei containing DNA.
I imagine it’s harder to get DNA from a tree or other plant than an animal because their cells have cell walls while animal cells don’t, but it’s entirely possible and has been done.
Another thought though, DNA isn’t something intrinsic to the universe or atoms or something, it’s a specific type of molecule that evolved here on Earth. So another question is why do aliens with evolutionary histories completely isolated from Earth and each other have DNA as opposed to having different but analogous molecules or being fundamentally structured completely differently from life on Earth.

Just hire talented writers, let Kevin give them SOME restrictions (these couple characters aren‘t allowed to die, rest is fair game etc) and respect beloved characters. It is actually a feat in itself to have literally everything going for you and STILL somehow fumbling it all: amazing talent, an almost infinite pool of money and great amounts of quality source material to base this off of (with some fitting changes for the continuity of the MCU of course). Can someone with talent make a meme of Mauler as Francis Dolarhyde showing the MCU subreddit Secret Invasion and saying "Do you see?"

Has anyone brought up that the theme for the show uses the "No more Rick Krispies! We ran out of Rice Krispies," melody?

Before MCU and streaming dominance, 3-6 new films were released to theaters on a weekly basis across all genres. "Low budget" comedies, dramas, horror, and action movies could turn a profit without a $300 million opening weekend.

BTW, I don't know if you fellows remember DS9, but when they had a war with the changelings, they set up a protocol to draw a bit of blood tomake sure ppl were who they say they were. Pretty easy and logical.

@@TheFatalcrest The changelings always had a workaround since they had been infiltrating societies for over 10000 years, only odo lacked the knowledge of how to subvert it. This was the theme of the defenses the federation employed. They were all based on odos incomplete abilities and the changelings could bypass them all. This is why section 31 went with a method that couldn't be avoided.

9:08:21 but don’t forget, it only happened cause Kang demanded it happened. If the skrull who kidnapped Rhodey didn’t want to, he would be sent to the end of time and eaten by the purple fort cloud

when you thought it couldn't get worse from Falcon/Winter Soldier.
After the light elf used illusions to impersonate a judge in the middle of a trial and extorted people there would be an entire school of law devoted to laws against shapeshifting

If you want a TV show that did the shapeshifter thing, and the paranoia it would instill, and did it over multiple episodes, and did it RIGHT, you want Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

On the subject of lying dogs, I had a dachshund years ago. When we tried to put him outside he'd slowly crawl forward dragging his back legs like something was wrong with him. And when you yelled at him to get out he'd just run outside with zero issues.
