Plowing and planting pasture grasses where the old garden area was

- Today I am going to level out the old garden area using a disk harrow. Afterwards I am going to plant the area with pasture grasses and legumes using a broadcast seeder. I am going to use a cultipacker to press the grass seed into the soil. This is help make good soil to seed contact and produce better germination. Hopefully next year I will fence this area in and make it into a small pasture.

Lmao headlights?? I think there’s actually a rule somewhere that any tractors over 30 years old cannot,should not,will not under any circumstances have working headlights😀. (I think under certain situations your allowed to have one working utility light off the rear,but it has to be cracked and only provide a dim glow!!). Anyway,nice set of discs. They do a good job.

I love them old time tractor's they beat these newer ones any day of the week plus they last longer and easy to repair if they break down but anyways hope your grass seed grow in great
I would recommend using an earplug or noise cancellation earphones or something to protect extended exposure to tractor noises.

Yeh, I understand "discs" ... I have five bad ones! Teeter inversion table to keep your back healthy!! Boy, farming gets complicated!
It's really interesting how people follow the same path when getting back to the country! We lived in a shed while building our house! Seeing this video gets me anxious to get my Ferguson tractor running. It's just about done bot other things keep taking precedence! Orchard grass is a great grass once established. It is probably the best cool season grass for fall 'comeback' performance. It's slow to establish but wort the wait.

Joan In Florida yes I agree and he does nice work. I can also attest to the fact if a person is inclined to be a couch potato your acreage will soon show it. I got rid of my tv 5 years ago and have enough interesting and challenging things to do on the acreage I don’t miss it at all.
JudithB We had a 20 acre farm with the barns and house in the center sort of! The rest was divided into 4 pastures, so that we could rotate 20 cows, and 3 horses into fields during the year. We moved them to the worst field in spring, so we could cut hay off three fields in June, and then let them back in to clean up the edges. Closed off 2 fields for hay to be cut in August, then the animals had all four fields to graze during winter. We put up over 1500 square bales of hay and fed all the animals, along with a Jersey milk cow and hogs.

put extra gates in when you are doing the fencing = in the front of both shed/barns and one in the drive/lane-way it means later you can get in easy, divide the whole paddock with electric fencing into 3 fields to keep different stock and each year it can change depending on what meat you are growing to harvest each year.

When you live on a farm, regardless of it's size, there's Always going to be something that's needing repair ! - I suspect you have very similar soil we have in the lower Ohio River valley in Kentucky. Kentucky Tall Fescue would be an excellent choice, highly eatable (to grazers), drought resistant and tough.
Replace the tractor lights with LED units........Also line your drive with those round LED solar powered units.....If tractor doesn't have alternator I'd replace generator too

Looking good. It's tough to work the soil so many times. Not to worry as It should get a long reprieve now that it will become pasture land. I'd love to see you get a few cow/calf pairs and build a small herd while building your soil with rotational grazing. I guess watering would be the next thing to figure out. The property sure has come a long way this year. Could you do an orchard check soon? My wife asks if you will paint the barn red soon...That's a Swede for you...LOL.
The orchard is actually coming to an end this year. The variety of Gala apples we have became ripe in mid August. We had to fight the critters for the fruit. We definitely need a fence around it when fruit is ripe.
The barn will be painted ted red, but not sure when.
You know i can't remember which channel made /rigged a light bar above tractor so he could work at nite ? Added battery or larger battery it was really nice i think he's got 2-3 channels gardening cabin tent cant remember who he is but maybe you can brainstorm and start working on yours

You should start the Case tractor with it almost at idle
Well if you need a flat and even surface then why not to use a slider. You can make it out of a few pieces long and heavy enough U-shaped profile steel and it will do a great job .. will cover tractor tracks as well.
As a rule you use the culapack after seeding
You really need to add some carbon my friend,I think your soil depth is really shallow,hopefully running livestock will help.

The truck burns a little oil and has an exhaust leak. But other than that it is doing good. Finally just put the first 3000 miles on it since we bought it.

I took it off to keep a battery charger on the battery in the winter. And I have never put it back on.

I'll tell you thing, you can get one heck of a lot more work done, fasrter and better with these old tractors and equipment than using a garden tractor.
