I just appreciate you young cats wanting to hear music with real substance like this. Im 53 years old and Kendrick is by far the greatest of this generation. It's not even debatable
Kendrick helped me realize the hustle of our environment isn’t gonna help our brothers our sisters in the struggle. The struggle governments and institutions forced us into. The power in this song helped me understand the pain I had to endure was from generation of hate towards me for being me. And I in turn used that same hate to justify their actions. A horrible cycle.
The end makes me cry too, I’m not Black but Yemenite (middle eastern colonized bombed country). It hits so hard, now when I relisten I cry throughout the whole thing bc I know what’s coming.
I’m literally crying cuz you are crying. I’m not black, but I can empathize with his stories because of how HARD it resonates with Black Americans. It hits in a spot of a heart that has been aching for generations.
I think the first verse talks about how the government sees and treats African Americans, he talks about stereotypes and how the government wants to make a bad image of African Americans, the second talks about how the government sees African Americans in hoods “watching me as I pull up, fill up my tank then peel out, muscle cars like pull ups, show u what these big wheels bout”, and the thirds talk about how gangs in hoods treat each other even though they are all going through the same troubles and problems. Kendrick goes deeper into how he feels every verse and I think that’s something not many people recognized.
He also talks about being a hypocrite because the previous song, complexion, talks about how skin color doesn’t matter, while in this song he talks about how skin color affects how the government treats people
I'm not black, but I see this as this. He pulls on a character of a typical black-rights-activist. He points out the things that he had to go through because of racism. But he keeps telling that he's a killer. In the pre-chorus the lyrics goes "the blacker the berry, the bigger I shoot". I see it as that he kinda throws stones at gangs, who shoot. So the question is, if he's a killer, whom does he kill? The third verse gives the answer. He kills black people. Just like Xhosa and Zulu. That's why, in fact, he says I'm African. Because in Africa, black people kill other black people, too. He then says, no matter if I watch BET, make a february my B-day etc - all those things that, seemingly, should tell others that you support black people - it's no matter cause he's killing people blacker than he is. And THAT is the biggest hypocrisy of black society. Yes, black rights are to be fought for, but START FROM DISSOLVING THE GANG CULTURE!
@cyclo_thirsty3707 it's so dope how that pre chorus saying "blacker the berry the sweeter the juice" is ironic how deep and sarcastic the voice is like a mockery of black skin. Simplifying the race to shade of skin complexion, "the bigger I shoot."
Also I'm hella glad you guys talked about Assassin's part bruh. "said they treat me like a slave, cah' me Black Woi, we feel a whole heap of pain, cah' we Black And man a say they put me inna chains, cah' we Black Imagine now, big gold chains full of rocks How you no see the whip, left scars 'pon me back But now we have a big whip parked 'pon the block All them say we doomed from the start, cah' we Black Remember this, every race start from the block, jus 'member dat" get the fuck outta here that angle is so fire

Just found this video when I was randomly recommended another reaction to Kendrick and I had to see if y’all reacted to blacker the berry. Had to see what y’all thought of assassins hook and I wasn’t disappointed 😂 .

Also ngl, every Kendrick release has been heat. Section 80 🔥🔥. Good Kid m.A.A.d City 🔥🔥. To Pimp a Butterfly 🔥🔥🔥. Untitled Unmastered 🔥🔥. Damn 🔥. So choose any of them tbh, you can't go wrong no matter which one you pick.
@@MoReactions the whole song was about Kendrick embracing the stereotypes of a black person and talking about how the people talking about these stereotypes are destroying his community, y'all kind of got the third verse tho.

This, perfectly said ❤️
Nah not really, I mean there are probably billions of people living the same life or worse, I’m sure people in those places can relate.
@@bigmann123correct, but none will identify with it more than the black community.
@@bigmann123just because someone is living a bad life it does not give them a right to invalidate the struggle of someone else bro.
K. Dot: The Blacker the Berry.
Person: The sweeter the juice.
2Pac: I say the Darker the Flesh then the Deeper the Roots
The voice is the authoritative voice of Kendrick. So y’all basically right.
“I’m black as the heart of a fucking Aryan”
That shit was COLD, as if to say that’s as close to being us as you’ll get, sheeesh🔥🔥🔥
8:05 “ IM FINNA THROW UP BITCH 🤮” - HAHA absolutely my guy absolutely
“I didn’t know this song went this hard.”
It’s what this makes this literally one of the best songs of all time.
