Decade ago?
Compressed air motors are decades old!
Apart from the production of the compressed air (one of the most inefficient rate) and the cost of this production there is some fundamental issue with with this motors":
- to achive optimum performance we have to deal with super high compression ;
- the thermodinamics changes are very high between the compression and escape - from high positive temperatures to negatives ones in the escape;
- resistance of the materials essencially derived by the thermodinamic chages.
And many others to discuss.
However, this old technology can be transform in a new paradigm if some of the big names give a chance to it.
I've studied this technology for about 40 years ago and made some small projects. The more interesting that I study and colobated is the Guy Nègre compressed technology. Please take a look at this project since Nègre is defunt but is work is to be remembered.

A french company tried to market a Compressed air engine 20 years ago and went bust.
The reason is that storing compressed air is not viable.
