Looks like an amazing ride! I always love watching the scenery change in cycle touring videos. The landscape can change so drastically depending on what area you are in! Thanks for sharing!
Coming from Poland, I always thought that it's one of the best country to bike, especially if you want to bike off the beaten path. There are thousands of paths through woods and fields, open to anybody. Far from traffic, and close to the nature. I would of course recommend a mountain bike for that. Camping in the wild is probably not allowed, but most likely not really enforced.
Lindsey and David - great video, really like it the theme. Would of like to have see more of this adventure. Seemed so short for such a long ride! But maybe that was your intent - enjoyed watching. Are you two doing video on bikepacking? Happy Biking, Happy Adventures! Steven
I've written some general advice on my blog: rideforclimate.com/blog/?p=649 -- another tip is to get my book :-) www.kickstarter.com/projects/2080478170/the-bicycle-diaries-my-21000-mile-ride-for-the-cli
Great video! I am Romanian. Why don´t you came in Romania, too? :) I´m planning a bike trip as well. More tips about roads , please. Thank you for your video!
Hi guys thanks for a great video. I have a technical question if you don't mind : I was surprised that you seem to use really slim tires, almost like racing tires, did you have any problems ? I am gathering info for a European road trip too :) thanks guys
I had flown out to Vilnius to pick up a Moulton TSR Rohloff that I had won on Ebay, (a pretty rare bike.) I had 2 of the best weeks cycling of my life across Poland and got 2 days into Germany, 4, maybe 5 from Amsterdam. It was a Sunday, not much open, so I had stopped at a filling station for a coffee. The bike was left just outside the door, chain through the frame and wheel. Went out after my coffee, 10, 15mins tops, to find it gone. No cut off lock left, nothing. Of course the police were called but it had vanished. Nothing on CCTV either. Major bummer to say the least. I'd be surprised if the thief/thieves even knew what they had bagged until they Googled it. I'd still like to chop their hands off. LG.
The guy in Republic if Srpska, Bosnia, offering rakia, didn't tell you it will help you but take as much as you can. Probably speaking about you now as crazy strange who can't take a sip of rakija. :)
Very nice, seems like an amazing experience. Congratulations. But if you're a traveller and someone (local) offers you a welcome drink, YOU DRINK IT!! It's rude not to. In my country we have a saying that goes something like "It is ugly not to know how to give, but it's worse not to know how to receive".
It is actualy central Europe. Eastern would be Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia and Russia. I am surprised nobody in Poland educated you in this fragile subject :P
In the U.S., we usually call anything that used to be Communist "Eastern Europe." Maybe we're wrong, but that's what we do. If you look at the wikipedia page on "Eastern Europe" (the English version, at least), it shows that there are very different (and controversial) ideas about what Eastern Europe: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Europe. Anyway, we didn't realize this was contentious until we got comments on this video!
David Kroodsma The Europe, geographically, starts at the Atlantic and ends in the Ural Mountains. None of the countries you bike through are in Eastern Europe. Budapest is situated in the middle of the continent. Is Kansas City East Coast? The "Eastern Europe" was an ideological construct so that the Russians justify their occupation of what istorically and geographically was always known as "MittleEuropa" (in German), Central Europe.
+David Kroodsma Indeed, you confused geographical (central europe) and geopolitical terms (eastern europe=warsaw pact countries aka countries occupied by the soviest union, a term that has been luckily rendered obsolete since 1989), which indeed is something you really want to avoid in this part of the world :) Anyway, thanks for visitng Budapest and the region, seems like you guys had fun...and cool Frisian last name btw.
Hi guys. As you are experienced bikers, I would like to hear your suggestion. How do you feel about one wheel bicycle trailer? I want to do some trip next year in eastern Europe, would be happy if you could suggest. By the way, thanks for sharing nice video.
Single wheeled trailers are fine... but usually you don't need to carry that much stuff. If you have to carry a lot of stuff, then I think that a single wheeled trailer may actually be faster than four panniers (less wind resistance), but I usually use panniers because it is easier to park the bike in stores, and also easier to fly with the bike or put it on trucks/busses.
tip form me never refuse a shot , If they offer you take it . Just tell you can do only one for the road . If you get stubborn and refuse it ll be taken as a insult. They will take you as a rude person
I have feeling you guys did not get along with local people. That you were sligtly out of touch with local folks. The best experince in South and Eastern Europe are friendly and hospitable people. Hospitality is set in genes of those people.
you should take a look of map of Europe, and check again, where is east Europe. its deep inside Russia. territory that you past is central/central-south Europe.
You look like a pair of happy people. Nice video.

The most important tip : Keep eye on your bicycle in poland.
2016 I cycled across Lithuania and Poland on my way to Amsterdam. Had my bike stolen in Molln, just NE of Hamburg.

poland is absoliutly eastern europ.....central europ ends after the river Oder...
'Easter Europe' is former communist bloc. This is not geographical term, it's political.

OpenStreetMaps should be fairly useful in Eastern Europe e.g. bicycle paths and minor roads.
