    I could definitely feel your exasperation with the seemingly neverending issues. It can sometimes be overwhelming, I know. It's unfortunate that we cannot hold manufacturers accountable for everything. All we can do is press on. You did a great job!

    On insulation issue, rockwool insulation (Roxul is a brand) would be a reasonable alternative. It is hydrophobic so wouldn’t wick and hold water like fiberglass or cellulose. Wouldn’t expect you to go back in there but hold that nugget for the future.

    I think you could reduce the squeaking by adding some silicone to the bottom. It would help it adhere but still be pliable and move around as needed.

    • @ProjectTrek
      @ProjectTrek  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea. The top step actually lifts up for storage underneath, but maybe I can let a bead of silicone cure before putting the step down and let it dampen the sound. I’m definitely doing this! Thanks for the suggestion!

    We just bought a fifth wheel and wondered how to change the flooring since there are curved walls. Did you just butt yours up against the counter and shower or did you trim with something? How about slide outs where there is carpet?

    Great workmanship. I also have vinyl sheet flooring and am wondering if you had any problems with the slide with the thicker Plank Flooring? Did you have to adjust the slide up at all?
    Thanks

    • @ProjectTrek
      @ProjectTrek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No issue at all. The large slide that the couch is on raises itself approx 1” as it slides in, so there’s plenty of clearance. All the other slides on our 2016 Open Range 376FBH slide in level, but are already significantly raised - so much so, that we don’t even have to roll up the high-pile rugs. They slide in right over them.

    How is the floor 1 year later? Did it go through freeze and thaw? Did any of it buckle?

    • @ProjectTrek
      @ProjectTrek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everything is good. No buckling. The only issue with the flooring is the weight. It did add 500 lbs to the rig. Very durable though.

  • @inmyimage1081
    @inmyimage1081 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If I heard correctly in the previous video you first discovered the mold issue after pulling out the fireplace so did ever actually locate the source of the leak? Given the location my expectation would be from the shower plumbing since they share that wall...

    • @ProjectTrek
      @ProjectTrek  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, there were 3 simultaneous leaks. Ice maker line, P-trap coming from shower, and a manufacture defect near both wheel wells that caused the tires to kick up water into the underbelly. What a mess, but it’s all better than new now.

    • @inmyimage1081
      @inmyimage1081 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Project Trek 😳 wow! Glad you removed the fireplace and started literally digging into the issue. I know i was a lot of work and must have been incredibly frustrating having just bought it, but at least you know that the rig should be good for many miles to come.

    • @ProjectTrek
      @ProjectTrek  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha it was a hellish week, but black mold scares the crap out of me. Even besides the mold though, there were a few spots where my body weight was enough to break through the decking. These were in pretty obscure spots (under the water heater, under the entertainment center) but the rot would have spread eventually.
      It was frustrating, because had I known that I could have negotiated more at the dealer, but they sold it “as-is” and I still got them to come off quite a bit.
      Frustrating yes, but with all the soft spots we felt, I was TOO surprised will what we found.

  • @AlcoholFreeRV
    @AlcoholFreeRV ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! All that mold you've found really sucks, but its great to see that you were able to handle it all! I do have a couple questions, as I have an Open Range as well, 2018 374BHS. How thick is the plywood in your main floor? Is it the same construction as say the kids room floor? How heavy is the vinyl compared to the carpet? Thanks in advance!

    • @ProjectTrek
      @ProjectTrek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The floor decking over the axles is 1/2”. I think it is 3/4” over the slides. The bunkroom is similar construction to the main living area, but with less insulation. I’d say the sheet vinyl that comes from the factory is very lightweight and is comparable to the “carpet”. The carpet really is horrible though. When we tore it out, there must have been 5-7 pounds of sand trapped in there.
      The vinyl planks we installed are VERY heavy - 55lbs per box. If I were do this again, I’d probably go with sheet vinyl.

    • @AlcoholFreeRV
      @AlcoholFreeRV ปีที่แล้ว

      @Project Trek thanks for the response! I appreciate your time. We have a couple spots in the main floor that are a little softer than others. I hope it's not all mold!

    Can I ask how you did the trim out for the living room slide area. Our slide looks the same as yours and we have hesitated to pull out the carpet due to that area. Thanks, WeavingRVer.

    • @ProjectTrek
      @ProjectTrek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used rolled vinyl sheeting, a long strip of it, glued down to the plywood decking on the slide. I ran the edge piece of the vinyl plank flooring through the table saw and cut an indention on the underside of the flooring to accommodate the thickness of the vinyl transition “flap”.
      It’s not a perfect match, but you’d have to stare at it awhile to notice the difference.

    Have any of them popped off with all the movement? How it holding up?

    • @ProjectTrek
      @ProjectTrek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There has been one plank that did pop up on one end, but it was an installation error. My main complaint is that the flooring has “yellowed” quite a bit. I’m not sure if it’s sun damage or just foot traffic. The main things that have been damaged due to all the rig movement has been the corner trim.
