The software UI design might be intuitive, but sadly the QC UI design is absolutely awful in some areas. My biggest wish for the QC is that they fix those basics. You want an example? The way you change Mode (by simultaneously pressing the Tuner and Preset Down button) is a disaster waiting to happen if you’re playing live; you only need to press the Preset Down button a fraction of a second before the Tuner button and you’ve accidentally changed preset halfway through a solo - it’s actually happened to me playing live. The solution is to use an external MIDI pedal assigned to change modes. But IMHO any piece of hardware that requires to to purchase additional hardware just to make it function they way it should (ie flawlessly) without the additional hardware, is NOT the dream piece of equipment that the manufacturers are making out that it is. NDSP have ignored please to fix UI issues like this for too long, in favour of the headlining things like plug-in support. Now that PCOM is here PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Neural, can you fix these basic issues to make the QC as much as pleasure to use as it is to listen to? 3 mins 40, and I quote ‘the situation the Quad Cortex is designed for… you live or die by the device…’ Yep, I’ve died a couple of times playing this thing live 😢
@@littlespacemanyeah, also with the switching system, like long press or momentary switch. This is much more basic and important than plugins. Obviously not so popular though since kids are more jangled with flashes and pops
Absolutely, and that’s a very ‘fair’ way of putting it. The company branding for the QC is ‘A vulgar display of power’. I’ve often thought this should be changed to ‘A vulgar display of marketing’. Don’t get me wrong, it sounds absolutely amazing. But it’s horrible to use at times, and the irony is, as stated in this video, the QC is really meant for live use, which is sometimes where it is most unusable. To be clear, I’m not criticising just for the heck of it - I have and will continue to offer constructive feedback to NDSP about how they could improve the QC UI. The test then, for a company like NDSP, is a cultural one; or in other words do they want acknowledge that there are things they really need to improve to make the QC what it should be, do they actually listen to their customers? So far the answer is ‘not really’, and when they do implement much requested features like Hybrid Mode, it’s often a limited and not particularly useable ‘box ticking exercise’ that introduces as many problems as it solves. I’ll give you another example; there is an ‘Undo’ feature on the editing page of a ‘block’ (ie device model) so if you were to say change a delay feedback from 25% to 37.6%, then to 42.1%, then to 54%, you can undo each change step by step. Great. Except it’s not because absolutely every single time you press the ‘Undo’ button from within a device model, the very first thing that happens is the device model editing window closes, you are taken back to the Grid (the page that shows you an overview of all the models for the preset) which means you can no longer see the page showing the parameters you want to undo. It’s incredibly frustrating, it’s nonsensical at best and at worst it renders the ‘undo’ function almost useless. And this is just one of many small examples of things that have either not been very well thought out or not very well implemented. For a lot of QC users these are the sort of everyday ‘quality of life’ (that’s actually the term that NDSP use) improvements we want to see in the QC. Trouble is we’ve been waiting a long time and in the meantime they seem to focus on the heading things like plugins.
@vhcxhbvg yes they say that in the video. You get 1 free plug in with the purchase of the quad cortex and even at that you shouldn't even get 1 free plug in so yeah you only get the presets that you have on your computer.
I think the UAFX pedals beat it as far as just a raw amp tone goes. They're far simpler because they don't have fx in them and they only do one amp- but that's why they only cost 350-400 bucks.
I would argue fractal sound a bit better as a modeler but the QC imo is a better overall device. I would love to also own a fm3/9 but I can't justify with already having the QC.
I suse my QC with my tribute band and use one guitar with the QC, the pitch shift function is great, never have issues with latency, with the dedicated tranpose now it should be so much better!
great unit , i love mine ! no issues with how it sounds , i would like a better power supply like a boss one but they should have built it into the unit and just a kettle lead would have sorted it , and if they could model a reverb with the amp not a block , that would be nice .
the only thing i could ask from neural is not to do what kemper did and PLEASE!!!! dont wait years and years to make a mini QC. some of us just want a smaller footprint hardware device and some of us just cant justify the cost of a full blown QC and this plug in versatility is next level
My only complaint about QC with the plugins is that we can’t see the graphic of the amps. The Gojira Rust amp is seriously one of the most metal designs you could ask for out of an amp. In all seriousness, I can’t wait to own a QC now.
can we address the black and gold elephant in the room? Super cool color scheme!...when are you guys going to do an update so we can change the color of our QC and foot switches?...I know I know "soon" right?
i would really really love if they would release CorOS as a plugin for use with DAW's. i really want something like a quad cortex but integrated in a plugin so its amazing for recording work instead of the old school amp capture workflow by using external hardware like the quad cortex itself. love the software, but im not on a stage so i dont really need the hardware. i used bias fx for this purpose but the software is a nightmare... poor front end code and constant stability issues causing crashes...
All this arguing about which sounds better- Idk- but I do know that I enjoy pedals. I enjoy shopping for them, watching vids about them, putting together a board, etc. and when I got a Headrush MX5- which I understand probably doesn't sound as good as this- I hated it. I missed pedals- so eventually, I went back to an analogue board and a UAFX Lion 68. There is just something about having everything in one little box- that feels like having nothing. That said- I will freely admit that I could get a better tone much faster with the MX5- because it was already done for me. Someone who knew exactly what they were doing had already gone through and set up 300+ different rigs- and yeah you needed to tweak them a little but for the most part- they already sounded good. And imo that's the real benefit of a modeler- whether we want to admit it or not, most of us do not know how to set up a complex rig with a bunch of different fx and make it sound good- with something like this, that's already been done for you. Analogue may sound better if you compare just raw sound quality- but when you start trying to set up some really complex rig and hours later you still can't make it sound right- you realize why modelers like this are so popular. Somebody having set up the delay perfectly, just the right amount of reverb, dialed in the rotary to the perfect speed- and it sounds just like that Pink Floyd song you love so much. Now take those same fx, all analogue, and a real amp- and set it up yourself- not easy huh? Yep- that's why David had a sound man and a tech helping him make it sound just perfect. And that's what having a modeler like this is like- having a sound man or a tech. And I traded all that- to go back to buying pedals and figuring it out on my own- humans are odd creatures.
