Should You Buy Dishonored 2 in 2022? (Review)

  • Dishonored 2 originally released in 2016. I played the first Dishonored last year and I've finally gotten around to playing the sequel which improves upon the experience of the first game (which was already great) in so many ways. I really enjoyed Dishonored 2 and it's DLC the Death of the Outsider. It's a really good option in 2022 because it's often on sale and a phenomenal game for fans of the stealth genre.

Nowadays have game + that you can use both powers from both characters after one full play through from the beginning of the game to the end of the game
Still one of the best dishonored games I ever played
Even though back when it launch had bad issue performance wise
But still very fun if you ever played the dishonored 1

All I can say is, make sure your controller is plugged in and on before starting the game. And, make sure the controller is enabled in the control settings. Plus, make sure the controller works in other games. Other than that, only other thing I could think of is to try a different controller. I never experienced this problem, so not sure what all I could tell you except those things above.

In death of the outsider you can use foresight to place a displace marker far away from your body to teleport to. I missed it first time round but it's a massive game changer as it allows you to teleport further than any other character and it seems you might have missed it as well.
You can combo this ability with a bonecharm that allows you to place two displace markers, this allows you to do a quick takedown on two enemies that are a large distance apart. You can also telefrag with displace which you cant do with any other character.

    • @xTheCrispyNinjax

Death of the Outsider is my least favorite one (i played it as a standalone) In this one, playing high or low chaos as no real consequence in the end. My favorite mission is , too, A Crack in the Slab with the Timepiece. I replayed Dishonored 2 this year and after a quite not so positive first playthrough, this time I had a lot of fun with it. I chose Emily and stealth approach, it was quite tricky sometimes, especially in Jindosh Mansion where clockwork soldiers were just impossible to sneak by, but overally it was satisfying for me to finish most chapters like some ghost/shadow. At my first playthrough I thought D2 was a bit boring and not so memorable when it comes to level design but now I take my words back. Level design is top notch, more open locations are fun to explore (even when some bone charms are quite hard to find) and overally the tone of the game is really nice. Playing D2 stealthy sometimes makes the game too slow and too repetitive, especially when you want to rip some bodies apart with your sword but it's much rewarding at the end. That's why I loved this approach so much.

@@rodrigocantarino4751 Actually there is a much easier way which I found out about after I already did this mission. I don't exactly remember how it's done, but I think that after you first meet Jindosh or right before it, you have to climb on the roof (?) and there is a button that deactivates all clockwork soldiers. i enjoyed Dishonored 2 but i'm not a massive fan of the chaos system. i like that your choices have consequences, i just don't really like how the coolest parts of the game (all of the brutal lethal takedowns for both stealth and assault) come with the knowledge that you've fucked over the whole world irreparably after the game and you're irredeemably evil in its eyes. it'd be more fun if it the outcomes weren't so clearly separated into good endings and bad endings.
i adore the Death of the Outsider. it's only short, and the last mission is disappointing, but until then it's Dishonored at its best. your actions still have consequences (mainly between missions 2 and 3), but there's no chaos system, so you aren't encouraged to feel guilty about having fun. it delves into the mysteries of the Void and the Outsider, which are the coolest bits of the games' lore, and still leaves you wanting to learn more. to me, though, the best thing is that you don't matter. in Dishonored 1 and 2, you're fighting to save dying empires and you're the only one who can do it. you're the most important person in the known world, so it's harder to care about other people. you feel cut off from the people for whom you're theoretically fighting (not helped by the fact that you're actually fighting for daughter or dad, depending on game and character choice). in Death of the Outsider, you're an outcast. you have no home, you have few friends, and you're out to kill someone whose disappearance will only really be felt by other outcasts. you're not trying to save the world; you're trying to get revenge on it. and it's because you don't matter that you can feel the world through which you're moving.
p.s. imo the Death of the Outsider is best in the black & white mode. it fits the bleak tone while still looking beautiful, and it really makes the red pop when you kill someone

It's not just the endings that change. EVER npc has several lines you can get out of them by clicking on them. And even they change. The books change. Everything changes. It you're looking for a lot of lore, the you should definitely buy it

Even after about a decade and hundreds if not over thousands of hours I've put into the franchise, I still find new things to this day in *both games*
It's honestly stunning how a relatively low-budget game from 2012 had so much detail in it. I just wish the Dishonored 2 engine wasn't so disappointing, especially when it comes to the tedious, stiff and annoying combat of the sequel compared to the first.

This is unrelated to dishonored and someone’s probably thought of this before but I just thought of an AC game in the western times with a vast open world and it could have a story kind of like black flag where you are an outlaw who works with the assassins and eventually become one

I bought the collector's edition way back when because Dishonered 1 was such a slapper. Due to the horrible performance issues I never even finished the game. Was massively disappointed by when the game I just got didn't even work, after months without any fixes I plainly forgot about this game.
Way to screw up a release. But I think it's time to try again.

I played this game multiple times and its probably my favorite game. Not only cos of the game itself but because its AMAZING art style, i saw the book of concept art from dishonored 2 and its just so inpiring
What i Also love is how the world changes depending on your actions… like the NPCs having more dark backstories around them if you go high chaos
(example:if you go through a flat before ademire instituce on low chaos nothing seems out of the ordinary its just a normal flat, on high chaos however there is a dead body of a woman with her i think its a diary, where you can read that she acidently killed her husband, and in the end got killed herself by blood flies that breeded on her husband corpse
Another example: two women in the level with ademire institue. In low chaos they are talking about normal stuff, on high chaos they argue and one pushes the other off the roof top, killing her)
Its these little details that make this game 1 000 times better and more entertaining

The Corvo pacifist run is not very fun to me because, and this was a major complaint I had about the first game, Corvo's powers are insanely geared towards all-out offense and murdering people, whilst Emily's are much more versatile. I mean...in a Low Chaos run, the rat swarm and wind abiltiies are absolutely useless and you shouldn't even bother with them. Even the time manipulation ability doesn't become highly useful until you upgrade it so it stops time. And even then, it's still much less useful than Emily's hyponotizing thingy, which lasts a lot longer, because the kill animation is much shorter and more convenient, since it makes bodies disappear into thin air and you don't have to worry about hiding them. Emily, on the other hand, can knock out up 4 people at once with just one sleep dart. That's effectioveness right there.

I really enjoyed Dishonoured 2. I prefer the stealth low chaos approach but as you say, there's so many ways to play the game. If you like Dishonoured, maybe give Prey (also by Arcane) a go. Similar mechanics, criminally underrated and I'd argue a better game than D2.

I’d love to see a dishonored 3 but with new characters. I feel like the story of the current characters is complete and we know there are more people with the outsiders mark so I would like to see stories about them.

I was going for a pacifist run on my first playthrough, but somehow a couple of soldiers glitched out and lemminged into the water. After that I decided I wasn’t so engaged with the story as I was in the first game, so now I’m just playing it as a ragdoll fest.

Also, this game proves that you can have amazing first person combat. They NAILED it and I mean NAILED it. I don't have a single clue why other devs haven't taken notes, but it's honestly amazing. It's so responsive, and feels so quick and lethal... It makes the main character feel like a proper assassin.
