Hmm, I think a more relevant translation would be "scalpers" not people just reselling their stuff like normal.
maybe there is just not a word in japanese to describe scalpers to differentiate them from other less-morally-objectionable forms of reselling (as the west does), so her having to come up with a case of a good middleman is because she knows this specific practice is what she's putting on blast yet the only word she can use at the moment to describe it is the generic "middleman", so she has to use examples so as to not blanket say ""all x is bad"
they are called scalpers, this situation would be similar to rtx 3000 series. Some people call them scums and others would rejoice because they can buy the stuff they want despite the expense. In the end, its all supply and demand , as long as there is a demand for it, there will always be scalpers.
It's fine if they're taxed for reselling. If not, reselling will become an unhealthy business practice or money laundering.
Whats funny about the RTX 3000 situation is lots of cards are having problems so scalpers who bought a lot of them through bots are gonna be screwed 🤣

This is why I haven't been able to get a PS5. The prices people ask for are way out of what I can spend.
I ended up giving up, I'm just going to continue using the PS4 since I still have some games to play there.
I'll get a PS5 2 or 3 years later once it's gone down in price.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X cost the same 499 dollars if you don't have enough money you can always get the cheaper no dic one

well in my country ps5 can become around $670 when 1st release (not preorder one bcs preorder already in 3rd party seller). it will come down to $500 when in 2 or 3 years. it same when ps4 release, i bought it in 2017/2018 but the price still around in $400-450 -,-

This is what I heard and watched from another video of the PS5 reselling situtation few days ago.
Seems they sell at very high price, which I think most of them were double than the original price.
So people who preordered these started to notice and cancellation were made one by one. The reseller noticed many people started cancelling until they made the remaining to be unable to cancel. Fortunately, the website itself has its rule to allow the cancellation to be made as the situtation met the condition to do so.
What I said may be wrong since I got the story from another video and I may remember it wrong, so I apologize in advance.
Just preorder PS5 (in my country current preorders are set to arrive on Feb) and by the time PS5 arrives there is gonna be more games and probably some patches for your favorite games worked out that you were expecting to get on the release date.
Only thing that is stopping you is your own impatience. Or money.
Resell if I won a PS5? No way, no way. I'm keeping it, selling it would be crazy.

Meh. I don't think it's about the manufacturers; it's about the ones willing to buy them at that price because they can't wait. If they're prepared to dash out cash instead of waiting it's exactly like those mobile games where you pay to get things done faster. Those who can, will.
I mean, at a 10 times mark up, I would sell basically anything I own. That said, I've never actually sold anything, so I probably wouldn't even think of it unless someone actually came up to me and said "I'll give you 5k for that system."

Ultimately it's Sony's fault for not just producing the consoles. It's not like they were blindsided by their own release date and they've done it before with past generations. But if Sony is not producing the consoles I don't have a problem with people reselling as long as the price isn't crazy.

Why would you buy anything if not to use it? Making money from scalping would make barely any difference in your total savings at the end of the line, so you'll have to scalp a bunch of them. Might as well just get a job if thats the case

Honestly I'm tempted to sell mine (Got it pre-ordered) and with the money I earn from it for selling it, I could leave aside for a PS5, buy another Switch and save the rest for whatever. I understand why scalpers do these things but they aren't the only ones to get the blame. I blame the manufacturers, for having such a limited supply *coughNintendocough* and the consumers because of their lack of patience. It surprised me to see a PS5 preorder sold for $10,000 on eBay..... Ten-fucking-thousand.... The desperation is real.
If i bought one PS5 legit and some was guaranteed to pay me 4,700 then hell yeah I'd sell it. Anyone who says they wouldn't are full of crap.

Is what I initially wanted to say, but after thinking about it again... The problem is more complex than one might think.
On one hand, it's private property. The moment you receive that console, it's yours and you should be able to do whatever you want with it.
On the other... Understanding how trade actually works (money being a stand-in for barter/I.O.U. document)... It does work kind of like theft. On a small scale it's inconsequential, but if you upscale that issue to, let's say, fourth of the entire population. Assuming they live off of this practice (getting stuff for free, selling it for profit, then spending that profit for other luxuries), this creates a vacuum: they are trading, even though they produce nothing. They work like a distributor (which is a viable service, don't get me wrong), except they spend nothing. It's not an expenditure - profit relation, as there is no expenditure, there's only profit.
That being said... You could frame it this way:
The service they are providing is the same as keeping your spot in a long queue. If you can get only one ticket, buying from a reseller (or a scalper, as I see people calling them below) is the same as buying yourself a winning ticket. Or you could frame it this way: Imagine you tell a hundred people to take part in that lottery, but that you are only going to pay them if:
a) You don't win
b) They do win
Plus, you are only going to be paying one of them, randomly. They can take the risk or not, they can lose a bit of time, but they can also gain a lot of money. If you think about it this way, the one buying the console is borderline exploiting the scalper - except you only strike the deal after the lottery to get a 100% sure win.
The question is: who loses in this scenario and how much?
The company is not losing, as the console being given away is not suddenly replicated, one console is still one console. It's calculated into the expenditure, who owns that console doesn't matter.
The scalper is surely not losing, as he or she gains a lot of money for pretty much no expense of his/her own. It's pure profit.
The buyer could be losing money. Except the act of buying is an agreement to the price offered - remember that nothing has inherent monetary value, whether it's a game console, clothes, diamonds, labor or oil. It's all a matter of an agreement between the client and the contractor. _Volenti non fit iniuria,_ "The willing suffers no injury". If you are in this position and you think the price is too high, don't buy it. Wait until the price goes down, as it eventually will. You need to decide for yourself what value your demand has, then trade time for the lowering of price.
So who loses in the end?
I guess the answer to this is: "society". Society loses a product that wasn't created as a result of someone receiving another product for free. But the one being wrong here - and I can already hear people screeching when they read this, as this is REALLY counterintuitive - is _the corporation that gives the product away._
Because _think about it._ If they didn't give that thing away for free, the scalper would have to get money in order to resell the console. So he would have to work. So he would have to produce something, a product or a service, in order to receive money for it. By giving that console away, the corporation is robbing the society of one product which will not be created as a result of someone receiving the console without having to sacrifice something in return.
reselling from a lottery is basically redistribution of wealth from people who have excess to those who need it, so why not?
