  • I’ve had this 12 volt fuel pump for years and finally get around to making a permanent box for it.
I can now carry it where I need to use it and don’t have hoses and wiring all tangled together.

I'm building the same thing. Instead of using my small battery charger, I bought a 110 v -12V converter and will wire in an on/off switch.

Just be sure the converter produces enough amperage to run a 12volt pump.
It’s been awhile since I built mine but I think the 12volt pump I used was drawing about 3 to 4 amps DC.
I’m sure you will use it more than you think , I know I use mine more than I thought I would.

@@CreekviewAcres Sounds good. I want to wire a switch with it also. I used it to drain the gas out of my show blowers, took about 6 seconds. Love it.

I have the same idea, just using an old Craftsman tool box, instead. I think I'll just mount a 12 volt lawn tractor battery inside. Should be enough room for everything. We'll see.

Ill use this for my houseboat to transfer gas , what would you suggest for the size for the small inline pump

I just used a small 12volt fuel pump
      Less than 30.00

Does that pump have enough power to pump gas from the jerry can on the floor up to a vehicle's gas cap?

I would think so. I have pumped gas from a 5 gallon upright can to the gas inlet on a 66 Mustang and it pumped the can dry.

A fan would recommended, for cooling the pump. The pump, it's cooled by the gas in the tank, otherwise it will fry.

The fuel running thru the pump cools it too. I only use it occasionally to pump maybe 5 or 10 gallons of gas so it’s not a problem.
Thanks for watching, appreciate it !

@@CreekviewAcres you're right with this. I think it's depending on the pump type. If the fuel it's pumped through the pump, it's self cooled. I've seem pumps with propelers that were overheating, so this might have been the reason of my advice. But overall, it's an interesting concept, and DIY is a hobby for me😊

His pump is an inline pump designed to be mounted on a frame rail OUTSIDE the fuel tank, so you are wrong about the need for external cooling.

It’s just a 12volt fuel pump( gas, diesel) Doubt if it would pump oil
