    Nice and practical! If you don't mind a suggestion, add a three way valve on the input to the pump along with a length of hose. That way it would be easy to drain fuel out of small equipment when you need to.

    The fuel pump runs in reverse really nice so I just pull the electrical contacts off and reverse them. I pumped out a fuel tank the other day to replace the fuel pump.

    I use that old pump to pump the gas out of my boat so it doesn't go bad. Pumping it out of your sled and into you car is a great idea.

    Personally I would use what I had on hand. Gas tanks and cans are made of metal all the time. Military jerry cans are metal, along with truck bed transfer tanks. Plastic will generate static spark just like metal.

    That is excellent! That's a reason I keep hitting my forehead with my fist! I may have thought of reversing the power leads, (after the time it took me to build it as I suggested). Your idea and practicality are awesome! Yes, I subscribed just a minute ago. Thank you.

    Now make the connections to the fuel pump switchable. Some kind of quick connects?
    That way, you can swap ends, and siphon/pump out of a car, then swap again and pump into another car.

    I need something similar. Some sites suggest the hdpe plastic is only good for short term storage on diesel . One site actually says after 6 months both the fuel and container are no good. They are selling metal fuel tanks so go figure. I have a couple of clean 55 blue barrels, at least one is going to become a diesel storage tank for my generator.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  ปีที่แล้ว

      "plastic" gas tanks in cars are HDPE. Even the 5 gallon gas jugs; blue or yellow made for Diesel are HDPE

    You think like me... I like it. The pump is actually reversible. I just switch the + and - and it sucks and pumps into the tank. I have already used it to this to evacuate a gas tank... If you haven't already, subscribe and maybe I can show you some other cool things.. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Do you still use it? I was thinking about turning an old propane tank into a gas tank and this popped up. Pretty good idea you had

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used it for a number of years but I ended up selling it. I had to take 5 gallon cans to the gas station and fill it and finally it got to the point of me just pouring straight out of the 5gal gas cans. However I think it's demise was me just not having enough space to easily store, move around and use it.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used this for a number of years. It was difficult to transport to the gas station to fill, so I was just filling it with other cans. It kind of just got tucked away in the back of my shed and I forgot about it for a number of years. My biggest gripe with it was that it was slow and I had to hook it to a car battery. Since I made this I noticed they now have amazing fuel transfer pumps that are battery operated that work extremely fast.

    How many gallons per minute do these pumps pump? I filter used motor oil for running in tractors and an old Ford diesel pickup and use a small block Chevy oil pump hooked to a 12 volt motor. It's too much volume for pumping into the trucks fuel tank. I spill every time I attempt to fill it's tank. Had been thinking about using an electric fuel pump as you have done but had wandered if it would take an hour or so just to fill the truck tank.

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's slow. I would guess at around 30 seconds a gallon.

  • @Milosz_Ostrow
    @Milosz_Ostrow 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't see the purpose of the large metal elbow. If the container is used in the upright position and refilled in the upright position, all one needs is the screw plug. Keep it simple. The fewer screw joints there are, the lower the chances of leaks.

    Sixtyfiveford, i have the same set-up but i want to use gator clamps and run it to my battery. Is this smart? And what can i do to avoid a static spark?

    • @sixtyfiveford
      @sixtyfiveford  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Put an inline switch on one of the lines to the gator clamp. This will isolate any possibility of a spark from jumping. Same rules apply for filling a plastic gas can at a gas station: as long as the plastic fuel container is on the ground it is grounded and there is very little chance of a spark.

    • @markmcgill8300
      @markmcgill8300 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      sixtyfiveford Would a grounding wire meet the same purpose???

    • @sixtyfiveford
