@@jixi40 Driver is most important and Lawrence can fund the money for not being constructors championship but in a close championship de 2nd driver can make the difference between winning the driver´s championship or not. Just remember 2012 season, Ferrari lost it in the last race because RB had a better car but also could spilt strategies between their 2 drivers and Ferrari only had Alonso.
Honestly i kinda have a morbid curiosity towards a lance-max partnership, i’d love to see the absolute performance chasm between a best-of-the-best driver and a bottom-of-the-barrel driver🙏

You say that but last year Lance was a lot closer and beating him in some races. Now that could be down to a lot of things, but it could be a sign he's on the decline. If he himself says he can't keep going much longer and his performances continue to drop off it's hard to say he's not going to be a limitation in the near future.

Haven't we heard from Max multiple times that he'd like to do other things aside from F1 while he's still in good shape? I think it's more realistic to see him finish his term at Red Bull and jump to WEC afterwards than jump to Aston.
I think that's the most likely scenario as well. And with that, I think for Max, building a team is for the long term. I don't see him switch teams for just a couple of glory years.

It's really hard to win a championship when your teammate isn't in the mix. Max did it last year but that's an exception. When you're fighting another team that has 2 cars at the front splitting strategies, ganging up on you, and always in your pit window it's almost impossible to come out on top. Going to Aston would be a massive mistake unless they agree to get rid of Lance Stroll.

For me Lance doesn't make sense in the long term and the reason is easy. He just CAN'T perform at the top level because he doesn't possess the skills and is not a top driver, plain and simple. For winning championships you need two performing cars. Spending billions and winning championships is inversely proportional with nepotism, they just don't go together. You could also look at the other car, which is in the opposite situation, Alonso more than has the skills and performance to become world champion given a winning car and correct circumstances, but the question is for how long? So analysing the long term view, of course Verstappen makes sense to power AM to greatness, but probably neither Fernando or Lance will remain there in a 3-5 year long term.

I mean, why would Max leave Red Bull? They've been the best team of the past 15 years, they've got two of the largest corporations in the world footing the bills, there is zero reason to believe they won't continue winning.

I've been saying one of the things Jon said here for awhile: Lawrence Stroll is a double edged sword. Without him, Aston isn't getting most of this investment in the company. But it's also what keeps Lance there. So if Lance leaves, like we all hope for, what happens to AM?
The truth that Aston Martin do not realise is that if they are trully serious about winning ANY championshio, the mini stroller has to be replaced ..... with a more competent driver. Money is one thing, the Neweys, Cardiles and Cowells are another. But these provide only the tools. Using the tools requires the best people for the job and mini stroller is not one of them. The mini stroller possesses neither the talent, attitude, nor the skill to attain this lofty aspiration ..... unless they have a 2023 RB in the hands of an in-form Alonso with a grid like the 2023 seasons competitors.
Lance or no Lance, Aston Martin doesn't have the car right now and predicting that Honda/Newey will change that is a pretty big gamble in as much the 2025 car hasn't even turned a lap yet. Maybe $1 billion would entice Verstappen into a non-championship car but that's pretty doubtful because at this point in his career, $1 billion is pretty much chump change against what he'll be earning in the next few years wherever he is.

As supportive of a father Lawerence is there’s no chance he thinks Lance will easily beat Max as a teammate. If the goal is for Lance to be WDC then they need a teammate that he is better than, not much worse. Even if Lawrence thinks Lance is just as fast, Max has the experience in F1 championship fights Lance doesn’t have. I don’t see in what world Max as a teammate get Lance a WDC.

People who think adrian is going to have this massive immediate effect on aston's performance are crazy. It's gonna take a MINIMUM of six, maybe even seven days for him to start making a big impact.
I feel as though the Christian Horner "scandal" which threatened to cause Max to leave just withered away, so I don't see what the catalyst would be any longer.
The Verstappens - especially Jos - can't stand Horner (and I don't blame them). The scandal was a convenient excuse to push the exit button, although I think working with Newey again would also be a decent incentive.

I’m low-key curious what a Max & Lance as teammates would be like throughout a season. Obviously Max & Alonso would be more exciting as fans but that would be a nightmare to deal with internally, & part of why Max & Alonso have both been stellar the past couple seasons is not having to worry about their teammates. Make Alonso an ambassador and keep him on the payroll after he retires. Max and Lance in 2027 would be great to see. Max could potentially still be a RedBull athlete (the drinks, not the F1 team) and have a RedBull helmet with Aston Martin sponsors. I'm also interested in how Adrian and Honda affect their road cars too though...

I can't help but think that when Adrian Newey joined the team one of his sticking points would have been about Lance. My bet is that Lane has 2025 to pull something out of the bag otherwise he's out. Adrian doesn't waste his time on one driver that won't get the most of his technical innovations or team ethos. And if Red Bull slump further this year and Max doesn't win the title but Aston itself are starting to get it together who says it Max and Alonso for 2026?
Max will never want to be part of a team where Lance Stroll is his partner. He won't be able to rely on him to act as a rear gunner and Lance is more likely to rear end Max than protect him. If Aston finally came to their senses and sent Lance packing a partnership between Max and Fernando would be something though, especially with Honda as their engine partner for the future.
Max was vocally supportive of Perez at Red Bull in the last two years when he wasn't doing much to help him and Lawson has only done 11 races before becoming Max's new teammate so I don't think he's bothered who his teammate is.
It's the only likely other option. Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren have their drivers sorted for the next few years. Stay at Red Bull and wait for an opening somewhere else if you wish to leave.

If Lawrence is investing in all areas just to have Lance win a WC once Alonso leaves, he’d never hire a driver like Max who’d steal many points away from Lance, thereby denying him a WC! Alonso was probably hired as Lance’s personal race mentor (at least in significant part as a 40+ yr old). The same would not apply to Max, so a Max plus Lance combo is out if Lawrence is aiming at a WC for Lance. So it would have to be Max plus not-Lance, if Lawrence’s objective is both drivers and team WCs. The ‘not-Lance’ would have to be a very reliable, consistent and pretty fast No.2 who can take regular podiums with Max. Alternatively, it would have to be a Lance plus ‘not-Max’ combo, but that seems an unlikely combo if Lawrence has a firm eye on a driver’s/team WC. I think this latter option is actually unlikely, and I predict Lance’s exit end 2025!

Love this channel, but I grow weary of the sentiment that teams can only make incremental gains over a very long time horizon. Aston is in relatively the same spot McLaren was 2 years ago. McLaren: 2020 - 3rd, 2021 - 4th, 2022 - 5th, 2023 - 4th, 2024 - 1st; Aston Martin: 2020 - 4th, 2021 - 7th, 2022 - 7th, 2023 - 5th, 2024 - 5th. Things move incrementally… till they don’t, Aston has most, if not all of the pieces to make the same jump for ‘26. I’ll even go even further out on a limb… Alonso magically replacing Norris in last years McLaren also would have won the constructors with Piastri as a teammate. I say all this as a Red Bull fan!!!
Stroll Snr is doing the same as Ferrari did in the late 90s - saw the talent at Renault (Brawn, Schumacher et al), poached them, built the new team around them.
While Max is no doubt one of the best drivers of all time and would certainly get the most out of any car, he still can't make a bad car into a 1st place car. Seems like a massive waste of money to go after Max when your car isn't even close to being a top 3 or 4 car. Pointless.

RedBull & Newey negotiated an early release that would allow him to start working at Aston Martin on March 3 2025 , RedBull needed Newey to help them finish & market the RB17 hypercar before he left , leave started in May 2024 .

Too much hype on Aston Martin and this is coming from a Brit who loves Aston Martin and Adrian. My second point is that the Honda engine is not a leading engine, no engine is in 2026 because it’s all change and my money would be on Mercedes. People have forgotten the years where Adrian won no titles because of the sheer power of the Mercedes engine which out-foxed his awesome aerodynamic skills.

Why? I don't understand F1 team owners and managers. They paid Newey bags of money to create what will be a great car, so why do they need to fork out even more money to get Verstrapen, which in turn will end up being 4 or five years of predictable wins and championships where no other team will come close? You say that but last year Lance was a lot closer and beating him in some races. Now that could be down to a lot of things, but it could be a sign he's on the decline. If he himself says he can't keep going much longer and his performances continue to drop off it's hard to say he's not going to be a limitation in the near future.

Haven't we heard from Max multiple times that he'd like to do other things aside from F1 while he's still in good shape? I think it's more realistic to see him finish his term at Red Bull and jump to WEC afterwards than jump to Aston.
I think that's the most likely scenario as well. And with that, I think for Max, building a team is for the long term. I don't see him switch teams for just a couple of glory years.

It's really hard to win a championship when your teammate isn't in the mix. Max did it last year but that's an exception. When you're fighting another team that has 2 cars at the front splitting strategies, ganging up on you, and always in your pit window it's almost impossible to come out on top. Going to Aston would be a massive mistake unless they agree to get rid of Lance Stroll.

For me Lance doesn't make sense in the long term and the reason is easy. He just CAN'T perform at the top level because he doesn't possess the skills and is not a top driver, plain and simple. For winning championships you need two performing cars. Spending billions and winning championships is inversely proportional with nepotism, they just don't go together. You could also look at the other car, which is in the opposite situation, Alonso more than has the skills and performance to become world champion given a winning car and correct circumstances, but the question is for how long? So analysing the long term view, of course Verstappen makes sense to power AM to greatness, but probably neither Fernando or Lance will remain there in a 3-5 year long term.
I think Aston needs to show they can at least be podium competitive with that car before max even gives them a look.
Lance and Max would still have a risk of coming together while Max is lapping his teammate.

Lance or no Lance, Aston Martin doesn't have the car right now and predicting that Honda/Newey will change that is a pretty big gamble in as much the 2025 car hasn't even turned a lap yet. Maybe $1 billion would entice Verstappen into a non-championship car but that's pretty doubtful because at this point in his career, $1 billion is pretty much chump change against what he'll be earning in the next few years wherever he is.

The Verstappens - especially Jos - can't stand Horner (and I don't blame them). The scandal was a convenient excuse to push the exit button, although I think working with Newey again would also be a decent incentive.

Obviously Max & Alonso would be more exciting as fans but that would be a nightmare to deal with internally, & part of why Max & Alonso have both been stellar the past couple seasons is not having to worry about their teammates. I don’t think Lance would be any worse against Max than Perez was.

Max could potentially still be a RedBull athlete (the drinks, not the F1 team) and have a RedBull helmet with Aston Martin sponsors. Max will never want to be part of a team where Lance Stroll is his partner. He won't be able to rely on him to act as a rear gunner and Lance is more likely to rear end Max than protect him.

If Lawrence is investing in all areas just to have Lance win a WC once Alonso leaves, he’d never hire a driver like Max who’d steal many points away from Lance, thereby denying him a WC! Alonso was probably hired as Lance’s personal race mentor (at least in significant part as a 40+ yr old). The same would not apply to Max, so a Max plus Lance combo is out if Lawrence is aiming at a WC for Lance. So it would have to be Max plus not-Lance, if Lawrence’s objective is both drivers and team WCs. The ‘not-Lance’ would have to be a very reliable, consistent and pretty fast No.2 who can take regular podiums with Max. Alternatively, it would have to be a Lance plus ‘not-Max’ combo, but that seems an unlikely combo if Lawrence has a firm eye on a driver’s/team WC. I think this latter option is actually unlikely, and I predict Lance’s exit end 2025!

Love this channel, but I grow weary of the sentiment that teams can only make incremental gains over a very long time horizon. Aston is in relatively the same spot McLaren was 2 years ago. McLaren: 2020 - 3rd, 2021 - 4th, 2022 - 5th, 2023 - 4th, 2024 - 1st; Aston Martin: 2020 - 4th, 2021 - 7th, 2022 - 7th, 2023 - 5th, 2024 - 5th. Things move incrementally… till they don’t, Aston has most, if not all of the pieces to make the same jump for ‘26. I’ll even go even further out on a limb… Alonso magically replacing Norris in last years McLaren also would have won the constructors with Piastri as a teammate. I say all this as a Red Bull fan!!!

RedBull & Newey negotiated an early release that would allow him to start working at Aston Martin on March 3 2025 , RedBull needed Newey to help them finish & market the RB17 hypercar before he left , leave started in May 2024 .

My second point is that the Honda engine is not a leading engine, no engine is in 2026 because it’s all change and my money would be on Mercedes. People have forgotten the years where Adrian won no titles because of the sheer power of the Mercedes engine which out-foxed his awesome aerodynamic skills.

Why? I don't understand F1 team owners and managers. They paid Newey bags of money to create what will be a great car, so why do they need to fork out even more money to get Verstrapen, which in turn will end up being 4 or five years of predictable wins and championships where no other team will come close? There are a few good drivers out there that will never win a championship because teams will always want the current champion.
