The sad part about Lady Clayface is that she did have some potential, Her disgust with her normal appearance which led to her willingly accepting clay powers in theory could give her more character than Hagen who traditionally is just a super-powered thug but since no one bothered to expand on her rather sparse backstory it was not to be. The least recognized of all the Clayfaces. Great video, Rogues.
Spencer Malley yeah, it would be interesting to see a story where she maybe loses her clay abilities and has to be human, it could be tragic or funny either way. She’s similar to cheetah who hates her human form and has become a human many times, but it’s never been funny with cheetah.
@@scotia7326 or how about a point where all four Clayfaces and Plasmus combine to make a giant clay monster that swallows Starfire only for her to blow it apart, losing her bikini bottom in the process
Yeah, you what DC should've do with both her and her husband, Preston Payne, they could've do stories of what it like being a family of shape-shifting criminals while raising their child, Cassius Payne. It could've been an interesting story to explore with those two Clayfaces.
As a big fan of the 80's Batman and the Outsiders, I have my sentimental love for Lady Clay. What I find sad about her is that she is potentially a very powerful meta, since she not only clones the powers of her targets, but she also has some memory bank of them (i.e. She was able to resume Looker's form and powers a long time after she had last done). Imagine if she became a long term agent of someone like Lex Luthor to be regularly impersonating other metas and cloning their powers.
You know, Sandra Reminds me of Inque from batman beyond. They both agreed to be test subjects in experiments which gave them the power to alter their forms at will. The only difference between the two is the Inque has more development and was utilised better. STill, it is a shame the sandra didn't get any more development. Small rant: For some reason, dc comics neglected to include the mud pack story in their collection of the best clayface stories. How can you not include (in my opinion) the greatest clayface story in a collection of stories about the villain? They have yet to fix this and that annoys me. Rant over. Anyway, this was another solid video Rogues.
A wonderful surprise to see a new video from you! I wish that the Mud Pack were revised and used in future stories! It is a great idea that should not be forgotten! Looking forward to Future surprise videos from you!
The story from Knightquest was the first i herd of her. I love the Clayfaces. This is a great video. Hopefully she, or a version of her, will be in media someday, but i like the third clayface, which I think was your 3rd episode of this series, more. Her using other peoples powers is cool.
I've read Lady Clay's appearance in Mud Pack and in Knight Quest, but literally nothing else...maybe I've seen a few cameos or such here and there (if I have, I don't rightly remember), but that would be it beyond those two big stories. As with you, she's my least favorite Clayface, and I think for basically the same reasons you gave. She's Clayface, but a girl. That's about it. I do like her, though; again, as you said, I love her relationship with Preston Payne. However, keep in mind that's basically all I've really known her for, given the little I've read with her: being in love with Preston Payne and being a female Clayface. Interesting in their own right, but more interesting by proxy of other characters, if that makes sense; still, she can be fun, and very sympathetic, so I don't hate her. I do think she had potential, but it just never got explored properly. That's all I've got to say here. Great work as always, my friend!
And the sad story is there aint much else with her besides those two stories.. I mean it literally is just those two, plus the Outisders two parter.. and sure, some cameos here and there, but they don't really add up to much. Thanks!
That's usually what they (DC and Marvel) say whenever a new character takes the identity of an established one. Saying how the new one is "More powerful" then the last one/all the rest. Poor Cassius never had the chance to become anything more then "Clayface #6"
I remember Lady Clayface. Really powerful how well she can duplicate supers but she's been in comic limbo for a long time. I guess Jane Doe has replaced her as Batman's female shape-shifter (even though that's not exactly what she does). Heck, Sandra could have been DC's answer to Mystique since she's a super changling for a terrorist group. You might want to do a video on KOBRA. I've heard Jack Kirby wanted them to be a nuance group that used ugly means for benign goals but after his passing other writers just reduced them as go-to terrorists with a snake fetish. It probably didn't help that _G.I. Joe_ was so popular in the '80s and their archenemy was also named Cobra.
Her husband Preston Payne did appear in other medias including Batman the brave and bold cartoon appearing in cameo seen in picture in the bar where Joker and Weeper hang out
A version of her did appear in the Gen1 DC Superhero Girls, except she was called "Mrs. Clayface" and bared a closer resemblance to the Hagen Clayface, but with makeup on her eyes & lips.
Bwana Beast i think she only showed up in one of the watchmen style newspaper clippings doomsday clock has, I can't remember in which issue, but it was one about the rise of meta humans and she showed up as a highlight, revealing her backstory stayed the same going into the new continuity
Waffle Man great! I think that was issue five. I really like those extra pages. It kinda explains what is going on currently in DC with the source wall being broken.
Wait...hypothetical here. If Rogue (X-Men) and Lady Clayface were in the same universe and they both maintained physical contact long enough during a fight...would they both gain each others powers? Thus, not only would both have shifting, super strength/toughness, and fast flight. But...more importantly, they would both be able to control their ability to touch people and take their powers, and could both theoretically keep them permanently? I mean...Rogue's main issue was that she couldn't control her touch powers, but Lady Clayface could, but it was only temporary. I mean...a fight between Rogue and Parasite (Superman) could probably cause the same thing, but still.
Honestly her sole reason for being in the Mud Pack was because Hagen was dead, and they needed another shapeshifter to fill in for him. Tell me I'm wrong!
Oh, cool! Another one of the numerous Clayfaces around! Apparently, Sondra Fuller did show up in the DC Superhero Girls online shorts. Shea Fontana confirmed it. twitter.com/SheaFontana/status/779675781244919808

They are never going to bring he back proper. She's too powerful. It says she can copy physic powers but she had copied others. She once fought silver age superman AS silver age superman and she went tow to toe with him. The writers just never realised just how OP that really is. Let's say she meet the beyonder from Marval. She would just copy him and be the beyonder powers and all because they never put a real limit on her powers writing her however they needed at the time.
Well it's like that with a lot of these guys, like Polka-dot-man.. he's got some serious powers, but is still a lame goofball. It's funny, the guys with no powers at all are usually the biggest villains; like Joker, Dent, Nigma, Coblepott and so on.
She doesn't seem that interesting to me either. Kinda just an excuse to make a female clayface. Also she never seemed to have a major solo appearance so she seems a bit pointless.
