Just started flying again with glow power, I have an OS 46LA running an APC 11 x 6 prop, 10% nitro fuel in a WOT-4 MK 2, really nice easy handling engine with more useable power than I expected. I think these engines are very underrated - it is very light, very easy to flick start and I only need a 6oz fuel tank in in the WOT -4.

David, thank you for your videos. They are very helpful!
I have an OS .46 LA engine and the manual says that the “Practical RPM” is 2,000 - 16,000rpm. When I run my engine at full throttle and tuned it to its max rpm, I was able to get 11,460rpm max. I’m using 15% nitro. You run your engine at full throttle with max rpm of 12,450.
My questions are, what does “Practical RPM” mean and can we ever reach the practical rpm of 16,000?
Is 12,000ish the max rpm this engine can run at?

All practical RPM means as stated by the manufacturer/design engineers is the 'theoretical' RPM range the design should tolerate without destruction. You should never attempt to reach the stated max RPM unless you wish to destroy your engine. RPM is greatly impacted by fuel, tuning, and prop size. Knowledge in understanding how an engine should sound and operate is much more important that trying to achieve the max stated RPM from the manufacturer.

Hello ... I'm writing from Brazil using google translator!
I would like to ask ... if the piston and connecting rod should be mounted in the right position ... and what would that position be? thanks

      I cannot answer that.

If you were able to reach the advertised max rpm on the bench it would mean you are terribly under propped.
Same is true with real airplanes with fixed pitch propellers. They have to be moving through the air to really stretch their wings so to speak

Just got one of these from a plane that was stuck in a tree for several years, it was completely locked up and full of water and corroded. I cleaned it up and restored it, It runs like new.
