The difference was that Duke with Laettner won back to back championships and Laettner made some clutch shots and he won the player of the year in 1992. It looks silly now if you factor in their professional careers but back then Laettner was considered the better college player.

I watched that Angola game live. I was 9 years old. How unfair that game was can't be understated. The USA players literally looked like they were practicing a pregame walkthrough session. Something like 30 real time minutes went by at one point in the game between Angola getting field goals. It truly was the greatest collection of basketball talent ever assembled. They nearly loss by Hundred...That's.....INCREDIBLE! They blew out everyone by nearly 50 points on average to get the Gold. Such a legendary Star studded lineup you can understand why the '92 Dream Team is the Greatest team of ALL Time they have no equal.
