I’ve got 198k on mine with a panel filter, AOS, and lots of exhaust work (heads, cross, uppipe, turboback). Getting ready to reseal heads and do timing belt service on it again. 05 STi is a winner.

    I have an 05 as well. It has some aftermarket parts on it and a stage 2 tune. It has the usual leaks and some new england rust but it's pretty solid and just passed 210k miles. You need to be picky on what you use for parts and make sure your tune is right or you'll ruin a well made car. All together it's the best car I've owned so far. I'd love a new 2021 if they weren't an easy $40k.

    • @Texas_Cruiser
      @Texas_Cruiser 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found an 02 wagon with 177k and it's recently had a new timing belt, fresh set of heads put in, a value job, new gaskets of course, and new ac compressor. $6500. Thinking about it. Would be my first WRX too. I'm 37 and have had my fun with stangs, camaros, and a Corvette. Was into the 90s racing scene and had a 300ZX TT and 93 RX-7. So I grew up around the first WRXs and loved them in Gran Turismo. I've never had an AWD car or 4 banger turbo. I've driven a 98 Eclipse GSX and a 2013 WRX hatch. The WRX felt like there was a little more to be desired in terms of power. It was a quick test drive at a mom and pop dealer and maybe I was j little nervous really testing it on a few turns. That's really what the car is for. I think with a Stage 2 I'd be happy with the power. I've had my crazy speed fix. Now it's more about going on adventures with the girlfriend and dog and some windy roads sometimes. Question is what year range do I get. I like the blobs a lot because that was the first and what I always picture when I think WRX. Considering I want a wagon it's pretty much 4 styles. I consider 08-14 split when fenders flared. I think blob but the hawkeye wagons look good too...they're just harder to come by. I'm in Austin, TX so lots for sale in my state. We have a good shop here in town. MZM International. They were my go to back in the day.

    I just pulled my absolutely mint '04 STi out from winter storage in May, only to end up coming to an emergency stop on the highway after seeing a CEL and maxed temp gauge out of nowhere. All the coolant was gone - sprayed out of a burst upper rad hose. I naively assumed it was just due to an old cracked hose, but no - it's head gasket failure... at only 76k miles. Absolutely bone stock, and totally babied. I never race or launch it, and I am borderline OCD about keeping it maintained. My only thought is that the gasket didn't like sitting without being started for the winter seasons (5-6 months)?
    Unless that falls into the category of poorly maintained, I think am the exception to the rule that they will last, it seems... I've had several Subies over 150k miles and never came across a head gasket failure until now. =(

      zackychan financial I own a 2018 Impreza hatchback 5 speed manual. The first oil change I was almost a quart low. Now I religiously check but since the first oil change it hasn’t eaten any oil at all. It’s stayed consistently at the same level. Since it’s the economy car it’s using the fb20 motor which isn’t known for oil consumption. My buddy also has the 2018 Impreza and it hasn’t had any issues at all, my dads 2018 crosstrek isn’t eating oil either but they both drive auto. My cars going in tomorrow for a plethora of things, apparently on recall is the windshield, head unit, air bags and ignition coils. Mine from day one has always had some metal scraping sound at certain rpms and they’re finally taking it seriously since the recall on engine debris. So fingers crossed they’ll figure it out. I personally have the worst luck with everything so I wouldn’t take my experience as evidence of them sucking. My buddy has 40k on his Impreza and has had no issues. I only have 9k miles on mine and I got mine a month before him. Although today my car stalled randomly when I started letting off the clutch it wasn’t even fully depressed not even half way. Hopefully they find and fix the issues. I’ve had the car for over a year now and the sound has been bothering me since the first few days after getting it, took it in multiple times and they told me the sound is hearing is the 1000cc injectors which isn’t the sound I’m referring to at all but it seems like they didn’t care. Just glad it’s on lease and that I didn’t just buy it like I initially wanted too. If at worse the problem doesn’t go away then in 2021 I can just take it back and get a wrx instead. Unless they don’t bring out the hatchback then I’ll stick with the Impreza.

    Seems like it was a one owner car for many years. Then bought by someone else who decided to do the ricer treatment to it. And this is the result. If someone wanted to bring this car back to top shape the entire suspension system would have to be redone(oem not aftermarket crap) along with the brakes and steering, change all mounts, rebuild the turbo and take the engine out machine the heads get a new shortblock from subaru and reseal the whole thing along with all new hoses, and bring the engine bay completely back to stock(no worthless intakes and bovs) that's just the mechanical aspect of it and not all of it. It's a lot of money for a regular Joe. Only buy sti's brand new off the lot.
