I used my Irish Spring bath soap as my daily shaving soap for the last 20 years until about 6 months ago when I got started on the Proraso, TOBS, T&H, Col. Conk, etc., and I haven't looked back. But when I travel, whatever soap bar they give me at the hotel, that's what I use for my shave. I can't be arsed to pack soap and a brush. The true shaving soaps are delightful pleasures. Thank you for the demo. I wondered if shaving cream was another sales hype to ignore. It seemed so. I already make soap. Tried to find a shaving cream recipe and it lead me back to soap. FYI for DIY people: You can make your own soap with three ingredients -- rain water (or distilled water), ashes from hard woods or palm fronds, and tallow or lard. Its easy. My son (age 11 at the time) and I made soap long ago for a homeschool science experiment. In chemistry, the process is called saponification. Lye, rainwater and ashes, chemically changes fat into soap. To scent it you can add essential oil of your choosing. Or just make a tea with a scent you like -- bay leaves, rosemary, pine needles... Pour the scented water/tea over ashes to make lye.
I could have sworn I watched one of your videos many many years ago when I first tried DE shaving. I wish I had non-sensitive skin like yours. I shave vicariously through you! Thank you!
Same, I remember wanting a Fat Boy like his so bad, but I ended up with several razors I liked just as much, including the Parker Variant and a vintage 1972 Black Beauty.
Finally someone who understands how old style works!!! I am 27 years old shaving with (natural) soaps ! It gives a great shave with my ultra sensitive skin ✌🏻 great video as usual! Thanks.
This is how my dad shaves. He has shaved like this since his younger years. He grew up quite poor in Brasil. Today, he could go buy himself a shaving cream, but he still chooses the soap
Great video! The equivalent to Walmart in the UK is called ASDA. (It is actually owned by Walmart) Most supermarkets are pretty much the same when it comes to shaving products.
I'm old and have used a variety of often very expensive shaving soaps. I've also used several bar soaps over the years and have been disappointed. Recently I happened across some bars of old fashioned Lux soap. So I tried it. Without a doubt Lux was easily the equivalent of the best purpose-made shaving soaps. I will continue to use it.
You have made shaving so fun for me that, I have made a weekly shave routine and have used a DE Razor for nearly a year now, and I actually have never gone back to my cartridges! I tribute you in every shave of mine by using simple products as I love your simple-working-family-man style, you are a special inspiration. I have a specific 'SinatraLennon Tribute Shave' at least once a month (Week 3, Friday), using your favourite products. Unfortunately in the UK I can't get Margaritas in the Arctic Soap or Barbasol, so the only thing I think I can use is Nivea Cooling Shave gel as a substitute as I know you like cooling products at least, and I am saving up to buy your coffee mug and brush one day :) I hope I can make my SinatraLennon Friday Tribute shave more accurate if the UK ever starts selling your favourite products, but honestly I try to tribute you every day as my Dove Soap is my daily routine as well as my DE Razor. You saved me during the pandemic whilst studying for my final year as your video's gave me (and plenty of others) peace, and hence why watching your video's are part of my weekly meditation routine :) Stay happy
Great shave! Dove is my daily go-to shave product as it's what my father always uses also. My father just does it very quickly with just his hands and then shaves. I like to use the brush and I face lather (similar to how you lathered for your Palmolive shave stick video - I just rub the Dove soap on my wet face, and then use my brush to create the lather and it's super slick). The Dove Soap you used in this video is also recommended by dermatologists in the UK and worldwide (I also heard President Obama's dermatologist provided him with Dove Shave Cream in his shaving routine). The amazing thing about this soap is that it's great for face wash before bed, and also can be used as a pre-shave moisturiser before shaving (if shaving with other soaps). There is also a Sensitive Dove Cream Bar Soap which I find more creamier (although there is less scent), you should try it one day :) Sorry for the long comment, I just wanted to share my Dove research and experience with you :)
There's a reason for that. Unfragranced skincare is gentler on skin. Anything from sunblock to face wash etc. Go unfragranced if you have sensitive skin.
I've tried everything from Aldi foam to Turkish soap over the years and my travels. Recently with airlines restricting liquid and charging for hold luggage I have switched to a simple bar of soap and my brush when travelling, as it's hard to buy the soap in the stores. I have to say some of the moisturising soaps like Dove work well for me and certainly better than the spray gels which are very common now.
Nice video and a great topic! Been wondering about the same thing myself! In case nobody else has mentioned it, the 99 & 44/100% pure was for Ivory soap!
Yup...soap remnants is an old coffee mug and a brush....That's the way my dad did it when I was a little kid in the mid-60s.... I've been wanting to get a wet shaving 'starter' kit, but I have a safety razor...and coffee mugs...and soap (Ivory). So now all I need is a brush. Just saved myself some money! haha
Before you start yes one can shave with a bar of soap I've done it since I was a teen right up on to my 40s especially with a double edge razor but use hot face cloth over your face for a min keep your soap in hot water while having the hot face cloth over your face make sure the soap softens nicely on the out side then off you pop and you'll get a great shave .
Excelent video, I found this video because in my country Wet shaving is not popular at all. If you search around you can find those flimsy kinda tin metal china Razors, butterfly o 3 piece razors. You will not find shaving soap. So I my first good DE Razor was a Merkur that I bought online, worked just fine untill my wife dropped it and broke it lol. So my next purchase on line was a Edwin Jagger DE89 and it’s going strong. A friend brought me 2 pucks of shaving soap about a year ago, So I was looking on TH-cam if Regular soap could be used. I have been collecting all the thin left overs of regular body soap, melting them on the stove, mixing it and putting it in my mug, but now you have shown me that dove can do the trick!! And Dove I can find in my country!! No more buying soap online and paying shipping fees for me, thank you for your video!!!
In these Inflationary Times. HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO DO IT MY FRIENDs Use any hard Bar Soap, Tallow or Glycerin based Soaps out there? To fit in any Mugs or Cups? Cut up the soap on a paper plate, pour your soap chunks with the shavings from the Paper Plate into a Mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave your soap. For about a minute or so? Place a paper plate under your mug in case it bubbles out of your cup? If it foams up, STOP. The water keeps it from burning itself up. (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy, does it? Let cool don't want to Crack the Mugs or Cups you're using? It saves me time and Money. Wheelchair Larry Happy New Year. Your Mileage may vary?
Best bar soap for shaving in UK ...Pears , the translucent looking one , it doesn’t dissipate, you can make an excellent copy of it extremely cheaply with melt and pour soap , I use Stephensons with a few drops of any essential oil that takes my fancy , or a few menthol crystals, or both ,it’s possible to add Bentonite clay or any other clay for added slip , but I don’t now find that necessary .
Shave soap and bar soap are made of the exact same thing and the exact same process to make. As long as you use a moisturizing bar soap its literally no different than a shave soap.
No they aren’t. Typical bar soap uses sodium hydroxide and oils. Shave soap uses Stearic acid, potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide. Much different process and ingredients.
@@zachsiatrevor the chemicals are different, and you get a different product. Shave soap is made to make dense, stable lather that doesn’t pop or merge into adjacent bubbles. Regular bar soap does not care about the lather quality per se. Regular bar soap balances it’s ability to strip oil away with its moisturizing quality, and the hardness of the bar. They are meant to do different things, so they are made differently. I should know, I have made thousands of bars of bar soap and hundreds of pucks of shaving soap.
@@zachsiatrevor no problem. It took me some research to figure out the differences when I started making shave soap a year or so ago. I had made tons of bar soap for my family and friends by then, and I knew my process, so having to re-learn soap making was a bit of an adventure. TH-cam has a bunch of videos on it made by people who make shave soap. If you watch them you will see the differences. Bar soap is single lye, (sodium hydroxide”, shave soap is dual lye, ( sodium hydroxide/potassium hydroxide). The end products even look extremely different.
I bought that same razor from The Wet Shaving club. Glad you reviewed it! I just purchased that Rockwell 6s, along with The Holy Black slant, Parker 26c black handle open comb, and vintage 1930's Gillette open comb for $42 TOTAL!! That Rockwell is absolutely incredible!!!! Smoothest and closest shave I have ever had!! I got a nearly new 6c coming for just $30!! You were right, incredible razor!! Jim
@@SinatraLennon Absolutely! The Rockwell only had a use or two, the others had no uses!! I just bought a 6c almost brand new for just $30!!! All of Ebay!
LOL, I got one of those Dove bars in my bathroom. I have used Dove once or twice to shave. Their tagline "1/4 moisturizing cream" (the secret behind that "residual slickness") might be good for gliding. Dove is near ph-neutral (6, closer to your body's 5,5 than traditional soap which is 8 to 10) which is good for skin prone to drying out, but because it's not as alkaline as traditional soap, it may not soften your whiskers that well. However, I never experienced any issues as long as the blade is sharp and it's a razor I can recommend. The razor you kindly reviewed is not one I'd recommend. Not really because it's Chinese (it's a Baili) but because it's too mild and has that slippery handle. The long, sleek handle appeals to women who later complain on amazon that it slips out of their hands. Definitely not for people who shave in the shower (like many women do) and not for other people, either. Unless you happen to like that razor, then it's okay.
@@SinatraLennon All channels about wet shaving I have found so far are good, but I stuck with yours because it is "unisex" -- for lack of a better word. Whether or not you started it as a male-orientated channel, it has a chummy vibe that attracts both Jack and Jill.
Instead of loading the brush with the soap in your hand, try using the bar as a shaving stick. Wet your face with warm water. Rub the bar over the area you are shaving. Then wet the brush and lather it with the soap you just applied to your face. It seems to work a bit better like this for me. Dove and Ivory both work well using this method although Dove performs better due to its moisturizing properties.
Obviously this is an old picture of me. I no longer have a beard. A great video. You always seem to find shaving subjects that we may think of but never do anything about.
Try goat's milk soap; been shaving and bathing with it exclusively for years. It's super moisturizing and nourishing. The triglycerides and vitamin E keep the skin supple and fresh looking.
I can remember my dad doing this all the time. My dad didn’t have fancy shave soaps, expensive brushes, high end razors. All I can remember is dad and a black beauty, a can of shave cream, and regular bar soap the he lathered with his hands. That’s it! He man have, but I never remember him doing 2 or 3 passes. He had the basics. Get in and get out. Great video.
This what I am using in my shaving bowl, right now. It moisturizes and contains cold cream. I just shave the bar with a cheese grater, put the grated soap into an empty sour cream container, and when I need more shaving soap, I just put in enough shaved dove to work, add about a Tbsp. of water, press it into my soap bowl, and I'm good to go.
I've just had the best and smoothest shave so far using a Voskhod blade in a cheap Wilkinson sword razor. I just can't wait to gingerly try feather blades.
Greetings from the beach in Torba, Turkey where it is rather beautiful. Artisan soap v's... Soap! I suppose it's a question where the doubter's would say "What the hell is the difference anyway?", so thank you for demonstrating. You may have just helped to solve a travel shave situation 👍 Would love a shout-out to Steve and Linda in Turkey. Cheers again 🍻
This is one of my favorite videos that you have done. I use arko,la troja, and shave pucks to do face lathers every day. My favorite however is Dove Men's+ it makes the best lather.
As already commented Asda is the UK version of Walmart, very impressed with the bar soap, obviously you'd need to choose the right soap as you have, that has a creamy texture...All the best Mark.
As others mentioned Asda is owned by Walmart in the UK so I guess its similar, but Marks & Spencers is a more up-market Supermarket, great shave with the Dove bar! very interesting! 😄
I saw some old adverts for ivory that said it's the all around soap for hands, body and shaving. Back then ivory was actually more expensive than others so part of the ad campaign was to appeal to people that it has more uses than the cheap soap. I haven't tried it yet but I'm assuming regular old ivory soap would be good. A guy at work that uses cartridges but does lather with a brush said he's always used ivory soap before I gave him an arko and palmolive stick. He said when the ivory gets small he throws it into his mug for making lather
Here in New Zealand Palmolive olive oil and aloe vera soap. Lathers up bloody well with a ''Triumph and Disaster'' shave brush. I use to use shaving gel .Now I prefer a soap and brush shave
Hi fellow kiwi!!! Funny story I’ve been buying that same soap for years as it’s so cheap for showering. Used to use it for face shaves, worked well. Then When I Started to head shave with a 5 blade dollar shave club cartridge in the shower with the same soap - great shave honestly. Started safety razors now and not a fan of the more expensive shave soap I have, so I guess I’ll need to try the old faithful Palmolive bar. About 70cents a bar, can’t go wrong. One soap for everything.
Last weekend, I actually bowl lathered some regular jilete shaving cream from a can. It work fine. I had to keep adding a little water to it but it stayed really nice on the brush. I wanted to see if it worked and it did pretty well.
Regarding anyone with sensitive skin having bad experience with safety razors, here's my take on it. My skin is very sensitive, I got a bad burn from face lathering with a brand new boar brush (theory that brush exfoliates your face confirmed) that wasn't broken in, I also got some nicks and bad cuts with a safety razor while learning. Of course, that lesson resulted in me breaking in the boar brush with the Italian method of keeping it in salty cold water (not your fridge, just cold tap water) for a few days, drying it on the towel and letting the tips completely dry off and resoaking every 24 hours until your brush is enough for you. I just added my own step of hand lathering shampoo to clean the brush completely of any oils if there were any. I bought two identical brushes, one meant to be a gift, and the difference between the two in color is really noticeable, so I think the shampoo helped too. Haven't tried how scratchy the brand new brush is to compare but my face had enough of that anyway and it would be a bad gift if I opened it to check 😆 But all of this happened because I was doing it all wrong, for the record, I got 4 cuts on my moustache in a span of 30s by trying to do against the grain pass there and I did it by scraping like with the with the grain passes instead of gently gliding ... Of course, I did the stupid thing with such hubris that before I realized what was happening, I was already on my 4th cut, that's how I got there anyway... Once I figured out what works, what doesn't, and what is incredibly stupid to do, I didn't have a single nick or cut or razor burn ever again even on blades that I shaved for 10 times before replacing and that included some 3 pass shaves (I normally do 2 passes) which included against the grain, just not in my moustache and chin area. I also tried 4 different razor blades while keeping the handle the same, and despite the minor differences, I could shave with all of them comfortably and didn't hurt myself with any but the first one, due to reasons mentioned above. People whose skin "can't handle" safety razors are 100% doing it wrong and should stop blaming the tools that they use completely wrong. The only way you can ever hate a safety razor is if you're completely uninterested in learning how to use it, but if you want to blame anyone for getting cuts, you can only blame yourself, it is definitely not the tool's fault. I also mentioned scraping vs gliding. It's all in the angle of attack on your hair, the more sensitive, the further away the handle should be from your face, but that's for you to experiment with. The safety razor is safe, but it can't protect you from bad angle + force of using a cartridge. If anyone here got put off by it not working first, I recommend trying again, but more mindfully, it absolutely improved health of my facial skin and I'm in total disbelief that someone could actually have worse results UNLESS they deliberately did it wrong like I did. If your skin is worse off than with cartridge, you're 100% doing it wrong. Please learn how to use this machine properly, if not, don't pretend that it's not your fault. I'm fairly certain that noone will ask you why you use cartridge instead of safety razor, but if they somehow do, tell them how it is - you're simply not interested in the effort required to do it, and that's okay, otherwise someone like me will lecture you for hours on how to do it properly and you will regret opening your mouth about it at all 🤣 And I'd also like to add that if I do against the grain pass for a 3 pass shave (only do it on cheeks), I don't need to shave for over a day in that area, the shave is just as close as with cartridge with the whole cutting hair below the skin thing, but the great thing about it is that it's entirely optional.
I've tried this several times and only found it to work with one soap and one method: ivory soap used as a shave 'stick' (rub all around wet face) then face lather. It's not huge pillowy lather but it's slick and serviceable, similar to Williams except you don't have to fight it lol. It's funny because their is a very old ivory soap ad that tells you to do exactly this (instead of lathering on the bar like a puck) and it does really work.
Well, curiosity got the best of me and I picked up a bar of Ivory yesterday, tried it this a.m. It wasn't great but it got the job done. I could see using it in a pinch, or while traveling if it was the only option. But I won't be trading it for my Palmolive, Speick or Proraso anytime soon.
I finally used up the plastic green bowl of Proraso soap I bought in January. I ordered another, but I had a brand new can of Edge shaving gel that I figure I would use up before I started using the new bowl of Proraso. So for the past two weeks I have been just squirting some Edge on the brush and dripping a little water on it. Other than it's a bit messy it works just fine. You just proved that a $2.00 bar of soap will work just as well as a $10 or more shaving soap. On a side note I have been using Soft Soap hand soap for showering for at least 5 years. Get two 80oz jugs for under $10.00 at Costco, and stores want to charge you $3.00 or more for a 24oz bottle body wash. So my opinion is soap is soap as long it is made to be applied to your skin. I think one a sharp blade and then the right razor are more important than what soap you use to get a good shave.
I love shaving with dove soap! I use a bar of dove white original for hair, face, shave....everything. Best cream soap ever made! God i love your shirt tan! 🤣🤣
This was a great vid! Especially if your in a pinch use bar soap. Dove is a good choice cause it's renowned for moisturizing, lever 2000 might dry out your skin. Especially if left on too long lol 💈
it looked nice but felt like normal soap in the end. i lathered really well though, i usually keep the soap in it's can or tries to shave of some of it to put in another can to lather which usually looks quite mediocre.
my Simpson T3 Trafalgar is the best brush on the market today it's like buying a $200 badger hair brush, no cleaning the brush, no need for a brush stand, fast drying time, well not fall apart like a badger hair can, cheap to buy, i have owned it for 5 years with no problems, Dove bar soap is great wheelchair Larry
Interesting video as usal. Mild razors can be shimmed to be more aggressive, just get an old blade and cut its cutting edges with a scissor and put this shim under the real cutting blade to raise it and increase the gap between the blade and the safety bar, you can put more than one shim as needed but putting too many shims can prevent the razor from shutting correctly, I use a plastic shim that I shaped because it's thick and will last and will not rust, plastic shim is one time deal, I use it regularly with Merkur 34G and it makes it much more aggressive, I tried to shim the R41 for fun just to see how it feels but it wasn't a good Idea lol, just shim the mild razors
New safety razor shaver here. I shaved my head with Mitchell's Wool Fat (MWF) - just the regular bath soap. It did pretty well with my Mach 3. My guess is that MWF bath soap is probably better than most bath soaps. But I wonder how close it is to their MWF shaving soap.
Next up: sinatralennon shaves with the new version of canned goo: non-stick cooking spray :) In all seriousness, thoroughly enjoy the videos, thanks for trying something that I was always curious about.
SinatraLennon, you did a great job of that shave. And you were far more pleasant about it, as is your style, that IAMCDB when he used washing up liquid! I saw Kensurfs shave with the handmade one and it was a beautiful piece of kit. M&S is a posh shop jn the UK. Lidl or Aldi would be the closest to Walmart. They are both duscount, no frills German shops.
I picked up a bar of Dove and tried it this morning. Did just fine. For whatever reason I can't stand the scent! Then again I love the scent of Arko so that goes to show where I'm jacked up. 😁😁
Thanks for sharing... I just had to replace my razor similar to the $12 one you were shaving with. I had it for over 6 years, but it just slipped out of my hands and the base broke... I ordered one that has a much more grip on it
I have your exact tan lines and rock them too! I also use Barbasol for quick shaves. Sooo... There should be a Barbasol AND kick-ass tan lines club! :) Happy weekend!
I haven't had the Van Der Hagen shave butter in a while, but I remember it working great for me. The razor looks like a clone of the old Gillette Tech, so it is indeed mild and good for beginners, and one feature I especially like about it is the raised bits in the corners that keep the blade aligned properly, I don't know why all DE razors don't have that.
A body bath bar soap can be used for wet shaves, but expect to get some cuts if you try any. From this video and another demo vid on TH-cam, Dove and Pears might be the exceptions. I had tried three different bar bath soaps and they gave me face cuts every time.

Soaps like Ivory, Dove, and especially Irish Spring dry my skin out really bad. It’s the worse in the winter time. I have to use a moisturizing bar or old timey lye soap. For shaving I usé Mitchell’s Woolfat because it’s very slick.
That's how I shaved for most of high school and college, and it made me hate shaving for the longest time because my skin was always red and sore. So glad I know better now, shaving is actually fun.

My dad did it for 50 years. I never saw him with nicks and cuts on his face.
Did he get irritation? Most all the cheap off the shelf bar soaps have no glide to them and they lather poorly.
Facts some ppl do it with like 4 products, my dad just got some soap and a razor.

I guess this is the proof. It doesn't have to cost an arm, and use whatever makes you have a good shave.
I decided to try using Irish Spring with Aloe after watching this. I swear this is giving me a better shave than most shave soaps I've tried!
Irish Spring w/Aloe provides a great shave for me as well.
HOLY MOLY MITA GLACIAL IS COLD. I finished shaving 5 minutes ago and I still feel the cooling. 🤩😍🥰

Have you ever tried shaving with butter? I haven't and never intend to, but I think you should. I bet it has some great residual slickness... LOL
No! Good idea though...

You could probably do it, but it would gunk up your razor. Butter isn't going to rinse off as easy as soap does.

I use Dove bar soap (hand lathered) as a preshave for my rabbithole soaps (Proraso, Tabac, Cello, etc.). I wil ltry it alone. Thanks. Well presented!
Hi!!!! Ivory soap was originally made by J B Williams.I believe circa 1840. Great shave!!!! (VLS)
@@Prosecute-fauci meaning??
@@zachsiatrevor the chemicals are different, and you get a different product. Shave soap is made to make dense, stable lather that doesn’t pop or merge into adjacent bubbles. Regular bar soap does not care about the lather quality per se. Regular bar soap balances it’s ability to strip oil away with its moisturizing quality, and the hardness of the bar.
They are meant to do different things, so they are made differently. I should know, I have made thousands of bars of bar soap and hundreds of pucks of shaving soap.
@@Prosecute-fauci Thanks
@@zachsiatrevor no problem. It took me some research to figure out the differences when I started making shave soap a year or so ago. I had made tons of bar soap for my family and friends by then, and I knew my process, so having to re-learn soap making was a bit of an adventure.
TH-cam has a bunch of videos on it made by people who make shave soap. If you watch them you will see the differences. Bar soap is single lye, (sodium hydroxide”, shave soap is dual lye, ( sodium hydroxide/potassium hydroxide). The end products even look extremely different.
So one does wonder why we bother spending $$$ on soap when the goal is just a daily shave.
I bought that same razor from The Wet Shaving club. Glad you reviewed it! UK equivalent to wallmart is ASDA.
Asda is the exact same company as wallmart, just under a different name in the UK. (don't know why)
Tried it with a bar of dove soap once; It was ok, not the greast. All the best from Birmingham, UK.
How on earth did I get so lucky as to have you as a viewer?! You’re always a font of knowledge.
Thanks Mike! I try to stay at least somewhat interesting!
I just tried it with an Evening Musk soap and it worked a treat. Very nice and more eco-friendly, thanks.
Great video, I've often thought about using bar soap on vacation, one less thing you need to pack then.
Exactly!
Sounds like your Dad was a good and practical man.
Yes sir, he was a good man who enjoyed the simple things in life. Man I miss him.
Thank you, that was a really kind thing you said about my dad. I really appreciate it.
It was my pleasure. Seems like he raised a good son, too.
I use bar and liquid soaps sometimes. I wash my face with soap and I use it for shaving then.
Late to the party but l shaved for years with bar soap and cartridge razor when I was on the road going from hotel to hotel.
Just tried this with my bluebeards revenge gold Cuban soap, works like a dream.
I have used bar soap plenty of times and it works great
I've just had the best and smoothest shave so far using a Voskhod blade in a cheap Wilkinson sword razor.

Hello beach goers in Turkey! A shout out will be forthcoming.
This is one of my favorite videos that you have done. I use arko,la troja, and shave pucks to do face lathers every day. My favorite however is Dove Men's+ it makes the best lather.
My grandpa has done this for like... 40 or so years. He uses Palmolive soap if I'm not mistaken
That’s great!
As already commented Asda is the UK version of Walmart, very impressed with the bar soap, obviously you'd need to choose the right soap as you have, that has a creamy texture...All the best Mark.
I buy Dove from Asda. It is a lot cheaper than shaving cream and lasts a lot longer. Looking for ways to save money.
Nice video. I have used disposable blades for a long time. I am switching to a safety razor. Glad to hear I can use bath soap when lathering up.
I occasionally use glycerin hand soap for my legs.
Haven't tried how scratchy the brand new brush is to compare but my face had enough of that anyway and it would be a bad gift if I opened it to check 😆
But all of this happened because I was doing it all wrong, for the record, I got 4 cuts on my moustache in a span of 30s by trying to do against the grain pass there and I did it by scraping like with the with the grain passes instead of gently gliding ...
I'm fairly certain that noone will ask you why you use cartridge instead of safety razor, but if they somehow do, tell them how it is - you're simply not interested in the effort required to do it, and that's okay, otherwise someone like me will lecture you for hours on how to do it properly and you will regret opening your mouth about it at all 🤣
And I'd also like to add that if I do against the grain pass for a 3 pass shave (only do it on cheeks), I don't need to shave for over a day in that area, the shave is just as close as with cartridge with the whole cutting hair below the skin thing, but the great thing about it is that it's entirely optional.
I should try it like a shave stick!
Interesting. I might have to try that sometime
I agree with everything you said. You’ve got the soap game locked down!

You shimmer the R41?! Do you still have skin on your face?! Brave, sir. Brave.

I would bet that some shampoos would work fairly well too. Lotsa choices out there.
Yep I shave with ivory soap and a dab of tressama conditioner. But I have just ordered my first soap. Hope it goes good
You need to try bulldog aftershave balm lovely stuff cleans moisturises and keeps the skin in tip top condition

Your skin can get a bit dry, but a good moisturizer or after-shave balm or gel fixes that problem.
Exactly, apply a balm after that, unless remains very dry...
Soaps like Ivory, Dove, and especially Irish Spring dry my skin out really bad. It’s the worse in the winter time. I have to use a moisturizing bar or old timey lye soap. For shaving I usé Mitchell’s Woolfat because it’s very slick.
