  • Back in San Diego and getting the chassis ready for when the built engine returns. Peter and Rabie go through the process of swapping out the stock rubber bushing in the control arms for Powerflex's street/purple bushings.

    Just an FYI, the sleeves being smaller than the bolts is due to the bushing being for the regular Fiesta. The ST has a larger diameter bolt for the front LCA bushing than the Non-ST does.

      Is there a way around this i.e buy the standard fiesta bolts, drill it out or are there the correct size sleeve? Thanks

    Hi, does it matter what orientation the bush goes in the control arm....can you set the caster to a neutral position like the OEM control arm??

    subbed. love your progress work. Only thing that's preventing me getting a fiesta st is in Australia they only come as a 2 door.. if and when the next gen arrives I hope we get a 4 door version. I love these cars.

      See for us here in the USA it is the other way around. I would love to have a 2 door over my 4 door for lighter weight.

      Oh totally agree with that. It's the practicality value for me whilst retaining a level of sportiness.

    Take some extra precautions in your jack stand setup. All it would take is some slight fore / aft movement & the car is on ground w/you underneath. At the very least, throw the wheels under the car

    I had the same problem with the bushings that you had to drill out. I ordered brand new control arms with them already installed, they were also the wrong size. No auto part store could deliver them in the right size, really weird that even powerflex makes them wrong. Might order these and bore them out on the lathe.

    • @marc9283
      @marc9283 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you bought the wrong powerflex bushings then. it says on their website 14mm bore for the ST and its smaller for the other models.

      @boardstopia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marc9283 nah I bought SKF brand new control arms but no car part store could get me the right size. Ford was hella expensive

    • @marc9283
      @marc9283 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@boardstopia that doesn't mean anything, you got the wrong part number. STs have a bigger diameter for the small bushing.

    • @boardstopia
      @boardstopia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marc9283 no standard aftermarket part maker makes these for the st then, at least not here in The Netherlands. So you need to either go for powerflex or a brand like it with upgraded bushings or buy it from ford themselves

    • @marc9283
      @marc9283 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@boardstopia yeah its cheaper to just get whatever is the cheapest control arm and pop in powerflex bushings. Or reuse your original control arms

    Why is the subframe so loose? Cracking the rear bolt looked scary man

  • @mjcmustang
    @mjcmustang 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You A) didn't replace those LCA to subframe bolts because they're a stretch bolt, and B) you didn't torque them properly

      They are not bad to install and you can feel the difference in flex with your hands from the oem to the aftermarket ones.

    I have a rebuilt title FiST and my caster for my front alignment is 4.8(Right) and 3.8(Left) would the adjustable caster bushings be able to fix this problem? For instance by moving the right -.5 and the left +.5

    I just bought a new ford focus and im just super worried about putting parts on it. I don't want to fuck up the engine and i have heard if you put an upgraded intake on it or a blow off valve to replace the bypass or really anything that messes with the combustion mixture, you absolutely have to tune it or problems will happen. Is this true? I'm new to cars and i just want to make my car last as long as possible. Thanks for reading.

    • @TShirtDriving
      @TShirtDriving  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some intakes like the 2j intake on the Fiesta ST will cause excess boost and cause the fuel ratio to lean out without a proper tune. When you upgrade anything on the car that reduces the restriction it is highly advised to get a tune to compliment the upgrade.

    • @ItsRiley3
      @ItsRiley3 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok sweet, and the tune your talking about is not just a map from like cobb but an actual tune from a dyno? would i have to take it to a professional?

    • @huelhowser4765
      @huelhowser4765 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      no,an off the shelf cobb tune will work.stratified cost roughly 700 for ap3 and several tunes including e30 and they tune to your set up, i prefer that.

  • @ItsRiley3
    @ItsRiley3 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why install these upgraded parts? Are they better build quality than the oem ford st parts? Do they make the car faster or better around a corner?

    • @TShirtDriving
      @TShirtDriving  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The idea of the upgraded bushings is to reduce the amount of flex or change in the alignment settings. When you are tracking the car you want the tire to have the maximum amount of contact with the road. With rubber bushings like oem there is flex which causes the alignment to shift more then with the upgraded polyurethane bushings.

    • @ItsRiley3
