Gosh, what a talent. I saw her live once, when she was about 8 months pregnant, and she put on the most fabulous show ever. Just solo, with her samples and instruments. I strive to be half as good a vocalist as her! Beautiful.
Kat Burns Was it very loud? I wouldn't be able to help but wonder the entire time if that environment would be harmful to the baby, especially the volume, but all the other stuff that goes along with touring and performing as well, such as travel, bad food, lack of sleep, lack of access to your doctor, etc. But then again, if you look at how few views she gets on TH-cam, I guess she still has to pay the bills LOL. On the other hand, can you imagine how lucky that child is to get to grow up listening to her? Genetics aside, I'd say that kid has a pretty decent chance of developing perfect pitch, or at least really good pitch.
@@augustgreig9420 wow, lmao. firstly, that's not what perfect pitch means. you know little of music. secondly, pretty sure she doesn't live paycheck to paycheck. lol. assume she did what needed to be done; it's really not your place to question it out of nowhere with no evidence. worden cares more about her child then you ever will. so chill, karen..
@@legalfictionnaturalfact3969 Why the hostility? And yes, children who grow up listening to music are more likely to develop perfect pitch. Why do you think Mozart and Beethoven had it? You're the one who obviously doesn't know music. Languages which have pitch as well as phonetics also produce more people with perfect pitch, such as the Vietnamese.
When I had a time slot I would blast through the rotation, then get a giant stack of CDs I didn't know anything about. I found My Brightest Diamond on total accident and even this second typing this, I'm getting goosebumps. Such an underrated gift to humanity.
In 50 years, people will look back at this as a brilliant example of music and video production... and completely miss the AMAZING song and artists performing it.
I fell in love with Shara's voice on The Decemberists "Hazards of Love" and have recently discovered MBD and her multi talents. Amazing and meaningful video:-)
My experience was at UW-Milwaukee. I got stranded in NYC a few years later and she took me into her home in Brooklyn at the time, kept me safe while in a difficult time of her own. An extraordinary soul indeed.
I always felt the song was about the artistic process and struggles to find your success. I think the video is very honest. When I am struggling myself with things like knowing I'll have no days off for 6 months to take an opportunity, or have to choose between materials or food, or stand in front of people to be judged for something I poured all of me into that may be well received or not... yeah... sometimes it's a worried clown, sometimes the mask, sometimes the warrior, the elegant artist.
Robby Koz Honestly I haven't gotten far past Dreaming Awake yet as I can't stop listening to it :), but of what I've heard of the other music, yeah it definitely has potential.
It's funny how as soon as you pay attention to the lyrics of one of Shara's songs, you can find ways in which it connects to your own life and draw strength from it :)
When I first heard this song I thought it was the weirdest experimental hipster sh*t but I keep coming back to it, the sounds are so deliberate and punctuated and it is genius.
I am a bird in water, a whale on sand I am the flood, the fire, the oil spill I’m feeling scared and I am overwhelmed And so I don my mask and finger bells [Chorus] Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara now get to work Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara this is going to hurt Be brave dear one Be changed or be undone Be brave dear one Be changed or be undone Undone I am the slave, I’m under house arrest I am the beater, I am beaten for less Than being punk and feeling anger swell And so I don my beaded dress and finger bells [Chorus] Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara now get to work Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara this is going to hurt Be brave dear one Be changed or be undone Be brave dear one Be changed or be undone Undone It’s so hard, it’s so heavy To be hungry, to be happy It’s so light, it’s so easy just to be It’s so hard, it’s so heavy To be hungry, to be happy It’s so light, it’s so easy just to be Oh God, what would you do with me Oh God, what’s my responsibility God, what would you do with me Oh God, what’s my responsibility [Chorus] Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara now get to work Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara this is going to hurt Be brave dear one Be changed or be undone Be brave dear one Be changed or be undone Now be brave (dear one) Be changed (be undone) Be brave (dear one) Be changed, be changed, be changed
3:11 reminds me of the video of Tiny Tim singing Earth Angel with the Enchanted Forest on the Ed Sullivan Show. I am always blown away by his emotion in that video, and I'm blown away by the emotion in this song.
I've been testing out speakers and this track is on my test CD. No matter what dealer I go to, they are all enthralled by this track. Send some Cs to Sound and Vision, Stereophile, etc and you'll move some units.
ok...i have always sung in cars...and my voice changes from like, operatic down to low grind dirty when it needs. and it is the emotion of a song that is portrayed. this song captures all of that. the high right on down to the even keel. bravo!
I'm a bass clarinet player and I've never actually seen a bass clarinet outside of a wind ensemble/symphony of some sort. Maybe I can be a famous bass clarinet player after all!
Brilliant song. Half the video is gorgeous, the other half was strangely shot. Like there were two different cinema artists on the same video. Beautiful to see the song recorded though.
If you've never watched that movie on mushrooms, you should. Everyone should. If you eat them right before you start the movie, everything times out perfectly.
@pwnedbyagnome DM Smith is his name, but yeah he does. haha. he's really good. he kind of reminded me of Swell Season when i heard him open up for My Brightest Diamond the other night
Thank you for your input. You obviously have a trained and critical eye. I think you should critically analyze everything else that falls in the *art* category and tell us which ones belong or no, so we can remove them and continue living all in a world where art is defined by your standards of artistic sence. (it's late and i am really bored with people like you, so sorry, but sarcasm really jumped off my scales after reading your comment).
Love this so much 13 years later
This song just came to me after idk how many years!
Better 8 years late than never. This woman is a force of nature.
Gosh, what a talent. I saw her live once, when she was about 8 months pregnant, and she put on the most fabulous show ever. Just solo, with her samples and instruments. I strive to be half as good a vocalist as her! Beautiful.

It's just so powerful, every time I hear it I choke up a little and just have all this anxiety, this is music. Beautiful.
This made me cry in the name of triumph Song/execution/production & Video = 10
Watching this video with my dad has always been a core memory of mine, makes sense this video is unforgettable
Listened to this right before I quit my job. Power moves. =]

Going through a tough time and listening to this...it fuels my energy. It helps me stay strong. I love it.

In 50 years, people will look back at this as a brilliant example of music and video production... and completely miss the AMAZING song and artists performing it.
doubt that last part
THIS SONG..... I CAN'T HANDLE HOW AMAZING IT IS. LIKE... WHAT... HOW IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE FOR A SONG TO BE SO AMAZING

The Hazards Of Love album was truly a master class of Conceptual song writing.
F
This is how you make music. It would be a shame for if only a few people have a chance to hear. Let's get it out there

es un bello sueño , de las canciones que me hacen Amar la musica .. merçii por ello..

Okay 7 months later and you've probably heard it by now, but in case you haven't, give Dreaming Awake a go, cracking stuff!
Manly O'Beeferton
Damn! Beautiful stuff. That Mason Jar Music channel ain't a bad find either. Like an American La Blogotheque.
Robby Koz Honestly I haven't gotten far past Dreaming Awake yet as I can't stop listening to it :), but of what I've heard of the other music, yeah it definitely has potential.
+Robby Koz I agree, I'm blown away and am so into this talented woman :)
Nice music
She performed this song at Stern Grove in San Francisco this afternoon, accompanied by the San Francisco symphony orchestra. Wow! Wonderful!

These lyrics are immense!
I am a bird in water, a whale on sand
I am the flood, the fire, the oil spill
I’m feeling scared and I am overwhelmed
And so I don my mask and finger bells
[Chorus]
Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara now get to work
Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara this is going to hurt
Be brave dear one
Be changed or be undone
Be brave dear one
Be changed or be undone
Undone
I am the slave, I’m under house arrest
I am the beater, I am beaten for less
Than being punk and feeling anger swell
And so I don my beaded dress and finger bells
[Chorus]
Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara now get to work
Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara this is going to hurt
Be brave dear one
Be changed or be undone
Be brave dear one
Be changed or be undone
Undone
It’s so hard, it’s so heavy
To be hungry, to be happy
It’s so light, it’s so easy just to be
It’s so hard, it’s so heavy
To be hungry, to be happy
It’s so light, it’s so easy just to be
Oh God, what would you do with me
Oh God, what’s my responsibility
God, what would you do with me
Oh God, what’s my responsibility
[Chorus]
Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara now get to work
Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Shara this is going to hurt
Be brave dear one
Be changed or be undone
Be brave dear one
Be changed or be undone
Now be brave (dear one)
Be changed (be undone)
Be brave (dear one)
Be changed, be changed, be changed
This track is wonderful. Can't wait for All Things Will Unwind.
And I love this video! But I also love the stringed instruments in this! and the dancer too! It is all so well put together - Absolutely beautiful!
