I just want to say thank you for showing Carnival in the positive light. I was literally tearing up watching everyone have a great time. You showed all the people coming together and having fun , you showed the police being friendly. 40 ,50 years on and the media is still trying it's best to destroy carnival and tear it down with it strong negative headlines. Videos like yours helps to balance the narrative, so I can only thank and salute you, sir. One love. Oh, P.S- I never wear my best trainers, because guaranteed they're gonna get stepped on by accident, at least once or twice because of the crowds and nobody's got time for that, as you just want to have fun when you're there.

I remember going with my brother in law. It was his 1st carnival in the UK. He's used to the one in st vincent. We got there early and didn't stop dancing until 9pm. The next day i couldn't even walk down the stairs. I had to shuffle down on my backside. I was in so much pain. Lol. My niece models outfits for carnival designers. They always do shows a few months beforehand so people can order their costumes. The designers are so talentee. I'm glad he had a good time.
Let me say Jamaica is NOT A Carnival Island. It is the forte" of the other Caribbean Islands. Whining is not only Jamaican. Whining is Caribbean across all Islands. Soca and Calypso, which is Carnival Music is not Jamaican music. Just a bit of factual history for you.

I was raised in the carnival area (and still live here) and recognised every location you were at. That jerk chicken spot was outside my primary school (St. Mary’s).
@@A.Servidor lol this is random but Belgium. Didn’t really intend to end up here (like many who move here didn’t tbh), came for an ex but ended up settling. It’s not the most exciting place to visit as a tourist but it’s a pretty nice place to live. Central as well so lots of other countries are within reach. Decent salaries compared to the cost of living too. Walkable cities, less crime, friendly down to earth people…just all round better if you’re used to London. Only thing that’s worse is the sheer amount of stuff you have to do on weekends in London. Belgium has great music festivals, but its arts scene, bars, restaurants, etc etc can’t compare to a big tier 1 city like Paris, London, Berlin etc
Carnival is one of my favourite days of the year, you really captured the friendly vibes and joy, too. As others have said, people who have probably never been, love to slander it and try and get it cancelled, its the one day of the year we alllll come together to have fun and party, happy you enjoyed it :-))
Fantastic weekend. It's great to see more people understand what all the fuss is about. The earlier you get there, the easier it is to beat the crowd. You can get your bearings, and understand where the quiet spots are. You found the soca Police. Ive not seen them for about 6 years. They are there to make sure everyone has fun
Didnt show the parades at all. First time i went i was kind of tricked into taking part. Met a guy at a nightclub in nottingham who said do you want to go to the notting hill carnival. So three of us went down in his car. On the way he taught me to play samba on the shakers. When we got there he dropped me off at a house full of international samba musicians and said this is andre shes a shaker player shes really good. They were saying to me so... SHOW US YOUR STUFF. but i would say no im not feeling it right now. But later i went and performed with them in the park and marched two days in the parades. Crazy.after the fi l party guy picked me up and drove me home.

I’m Jamaican and Grenadian- there’s no part of Jamaica that has a carnival and they are not known for that. Carnivals originate and are held in the smaller islands but everybody’s welcome..
Mate why are you starting in Bayswater? No wonder it took you ages. You need to get to Kensal Green next time. You also need a friend in the area to stay over because getting home is missions. It's not propaganda mate, innocent people were murdered at this year's carnival, over 70 police officers assaulted. Every year there is serious crime and disorder. If this wasn't a black carnival it would be banned. Simple as that. Something needs to change to stop the criminality that goes with carnival, 99% of the people there are there to have fun and celebrate but the 1% will always grab the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Jamaicans took it over and now claim it as theirs. Lord Kitchener from Trinidad who sang calypso for a living sang the famous Drink ah rum song which put the art form on the map. Also check out Mighty Sparrow., and many more. Reggae music is an abomination to the origin of carnival.

That Carnival was held indoors in St Pancreas in 1959. After Claudia Jones death, a (Non Trinidadian) Rhaune Laslett was given permission to hold the first street Carnival in Notting Hill. Read a bit of history, you will find out that lots of countries around the world had carnival.

NYC loads of food places yeah…..but major ingredient missing……quality lol…….Florida ermmmmm considering I saw loads of JA food places….man they lacked serious flavour Tottenham, Brixton, SE London, etc has better Caribbean food by far outside of Jamaica (I’m married to a Jamaican) LOL…..Atlanta had a good few meals……I find US give you overall piles of food……quality is questionable…..glad you like Carni though bro
As an American who been to London Carnival, the Jamaican food I had there was very weak. I had way better in Georgia, USA. Overall I find Louisiana, USA food a lot more flavorful than all Jamaican food I've had except for two places. The best Caribbean I have is usually a fusion foods with a twist.

Whilst I stayed in NYC (and I have in many occassions) the best meals for example hubby and I had we paid A LOT of money for!...personally I'm Kreole give me my kreole food anytime lol

Mo Kréyol osi but from a different place so my Kréyol food is different from your Kreole food.

It's because he didn't show the floats and the costumes. They also have steel pans. There are many different floats. There is also a judging comprtition on the Saturday before. He's showing the part dominated by sound systems, which is Jamaica's cultural contribution, because it doesn't do Carnivals. There are so many things he didn't show. The BBC used to bring over top rated artist and DJ's, so you also have a free concert. This is a British Carnival created by a variety of different immigrants. This is not native to the UK. It is not homogeneous, based on only one island and people. Instead it's a celebration of unity and therefore it's diverse in nature. The costumes are there, they are shown on TV and in the newspapers.
The costumes and steel pans are there, he just didn't show it. This is something produced by different communities who moved to the UK, it is not native to Britain, so of course it cannot compete with countries who have been doing this for hundreds of years.

Ive been going to nottinghill carnival since I was 5...Ive never seen it from this angle before. Im not sure what route you took to get there but I didn't recognise any of the streets you're on. You should arrive at Nottinghill gate and then its an easy walk following the floats and drums. Where were the street dancers and performances, the steel drums, the people dancing on the bus stops. The people waving their flags? Not sure where you guys were. Just a video with a bunch of sweaty gross black guys

This is a British Carnival created by a variety of different immigrants. This is not native to the UK. It is not homogeneous, based on only one island and people. Instead it's a celebration of unity and therefore it's diverse in nature. The costumes are there, they are shown on TV and in the newspapers.
The costumes and steel pans are there, he just didn't show it. This is something produced by different communities who moved to the UK, it is not native to Britain, so of course it cannot compete with countries who have been doing this for hundreds of years.

Ive been going to nottinghill carnival since I was 5...Ive never seen it from this angle before. Im not sure what route you took to get there but I didn't recognise any of the streets you're on. You should arrive at Nottinghill gate and then its an easy walk following the floats and drums. Where were the street dancers and performances, the steel drums, the people dancing on the bus stops. The people waving their flags? Not sure where you guys were. Just a video with a bunch of sweaty gross black guys
