It still amazes me that there are some older games whose textures sit comfortably inside a 4GB VRAM buffer, and manage to look better than more modern games that don't fit inside an 8 GB VRAM buffer. I had a weird bug where I had to dismiss S.A.M. because somehow armor had got in his armor slots and it made the game crash while on the ship for more than 10 seconds. Despite losing my robot it's still a great game. It honestly feels more like Fallout in space than Starfield. I didn't even know the game had problems before, just started playing last week. I haven't had any stuttering at all, although the first time I loaded the game up, it took almost a minute to build shaders and seemed like it had crashed until it just ran fine and never did it again.
Another thing to consider is the first version runs on win 7 64 bit and up, and the remake only runs on win 10 64 bit and up. So if you have an older OS like win 7, win 8, or win 8.1, you can only play the original.
TH-cam video encoding, most likely. Since the clouds in the video change so little from frame to frame, youtube compression just keeps those parts of the image the same from frame to frame.
The spacer's choice is made by a different group, and runs significantly worse. Seems like original would be the way to go, and you could probably use RTGI presets to make the game look prettier with less of a framerate hit than spacer's.
I'm really not a fan of these remasters that come out so quickly after the launch of the game. theres no major improvements and a lot of the times it just pushes the system requirements higher for no good reason.

I think he could make entire long ass video about that amazing thing it let me play at 4k/100+fps in Resident Evil Revelations 2 with no stutters while before i was stuttering and dropping frames even at 1080p, in games like GTA IV, Amalur Re-reckoning (botched port it's only playable on dxvk), Guild Wars 2 it also helps a lot
Really enjoyed the original version of this game when I had my Vega 64 despite the Vega architecture not liking this game at all . Needed to run close to its max at over 300W to give 60fps at 1920x1200 for most sections. This remaster was a cash grab - why remaster a game which is only 3 years old? Also Spacer's Choice edition is fitting if you follow the lore. I'd even argue nVidia seem to be working with Spacer's Choice to make their 40 series cards ;) fake fps with dlss3 reminds me of their tricks with saltuna ;)
I had issues with this hard locking on jumping back and forth to menus, but only occasionally, picked it up cheap but quite enjoying it before starfield comes out.
I love this game (the OG version) and never had too many issues with it imho. While it is a little demanding, it’s a beautiful looking game and worth a play!
I just got a copy of this today, never seen it before, am looking forward to playing it now, looks like it will be perfectly fine on a GTX 1060, Ryzen 7 set up, happy days :)
The comparison split-screens show how pointless this "remaster" was. More saturated colors and slightly brighter lighting, nothing a mod couldn't have accomplished. The recommended GPU goes from a 1060 for the original release to a 1080 ti/2070/6700 XT in the SC edition, and for WHAT? They should have just released a "GotY" edition with the bundled DLC and raised level cap and not bothered with nominal graphics upgrades that did nothing but tank performance. Ironic that a game which went so hard on skewering the excesses of capitalism pulled a money-grab like this.
Not sure on the money grab? I got it free off of Epic. I am glad I looked it up though. If I would have installed this on my older rig, it would have been shit performance it seems? I have a 3060 12GB and 32 GB RAM with a Ryzen 5. This should play nice? Going to install it.
Bought this on sale days ago for less than 10 bucks. Runs quite well so far. Not a fan on some of the changes they made like the color grading which are too saturated.

RandomGaminginHD : I've tried both of them, but I am continuing playing the original. The Spacers Choice Remastered just simply looks around 15 % worse because of the CARTOONY TEXTURES. It looses on the graphical fidelity realism and looks worse.
I didn't even know they remastered it. I never get why companies remaster something new, it's never as noticeable like if they were to remaster an old PS3 game for example. The only real difference I noticed in the video is the remaster has brighter colours and slightly better shadows. That's not enough of a difference to warrent such a performance hit. FSR is nice, but I find FSR has more artifacts than DLSS. I hope AMD updates it at some point, I'm pretty sure even intel's upscaler works better than FSR.
I got it from Epic store for free, and was disappointed to find out it's some remaster. Considering that on my potato laptop I care about being able to run game at all, I guess it will just remain unused in my library
Honestly the original version generally looks better to me. The original feels more cohesive in terms of its art direction, the new one is more saturated and pushes the blues to a more teal color, sort of like Michael bay style color grading. The performance hit is definitely not justified given the lack of objective visual improvements, it’s largely subjective besides texture resolution.
Even in the game's original version my 12700kf 3070 rig would get absolutely choked in places, starting with the botanical gardens where it would drop to like 30-40 fps. There's some assets or effects that are just not optimized at all. My interest for the game kinda petered out as it just didn't feel like a quality game.
I very much enjoyed the game when it first released, but my weak i3 processor was already getting low fps in the big city area, I havent even tried to touch this just given the poor word of mouth about performence, thanks for the update!
Thanks for bringing this up! I've also been putting playing it off and sort of forgot about it. Makes me wonder about games like Forspoken and Gotham Knights, you never see many if any videos where people go back to revisit busted games. At least not in my yt algorithm.

I've been playing it on a Ryzen 5500, on a gen 1 B350 mobo( pcie 3.0), with 32 gb ram and a RX 6600 @1080p. So far I'm 60-ish hours in and it runs great, enjoying it so far.
Got Spacer's Choice from last month's humble bundle. I don't have many hours in it but it runs fine from the few I've put in at 1440p with my 2080
Another thing to consider is the first version runs on win 7 64 bit and up, and the remake only runs on win 10 64 bit and up.
So if you have an older OS like win 7, win 8, or win 8.1, you can only play the original.
i have a friend who still uses windows 7, optical drives, refuses to upgrade to an SSD or put deodorant
why do the clouds look like they are following the head bob at 2:00 mark???
Because this "remaster" is what the GTA Trilogy - Definitive Edition is to the original GTA trilogy. Want a better experience? play the original!
Yeah to me a remaster makes sense after about a decade
i didnt even know it was a remaster, I just thought it was a deluxe edition
with the last Nvidia driver update i was finaly able to keep a high 1440p on a 3070 on this version and i have alot of fun with the game even after the performance still feels weird after its no problem at all to run the normal version on 4k
I just bought the remaster for 10€ on mmoga, while the original costs almost three times as much!
I’ll look forward to playing it for the first time tonight and on the weekend :)
Thank you very much for your video it helped me with th purchase!
Should we consider adding the DXVK in this game ?
Really hope you re-open that topic.
Cheers.
Don't use DXVK we have much superior DXVK-gplasync which removes all stutters since it creates cache in a background.
Yeah will run great. Have fun :)
Gtx 1060 enough? How’d it run bro?
The Spacers Choice was in a Humble Bundle recently. Ive not tried it yet but its a shame the original wasnt included, would rather try that version on my 1070.
Yeah the 1070 should do pretty well with this one too :)
@@RandomGaminginHD I didnt try the remake yet but did get the original in a new humble bundle. been enjoying it at 60-90 fps maxed out settings. a proper rpg.
Im confused is this the full game with dlc? .steam uk sell it for £49.99 but it's only £9.79 on cd keys
Didnt realize it was its own thing, just assumed it was the main game and the dlc in a bundle. With no changes to the original game/dlc.
thanks for the revisit, does it have dlss as well or only fsr?
This game is crunchy on a 2070 super (& 5900x w 16gb) goes from 80 fps to 10 fps for seemingly no reason.
Love the uploads man. I've watched most of them the second they've been uploaded.
Wow “random”… you blew up in subscribers, I’ve been watching your content I guess a little over a year I Remb at least being around 60k or so so congrats to you!
Thank you for sticking around!
Imo games from 2019 should get ps5 upgrades. Look at RE2 remake for example. Shit, RE7 was in 2017 and the ps5 upgrade is fire
I didn't realize you could put your gun away for the first hour either.
The new version literally cut the fps of the 6500 in half 💀
Didn't the original come out just a few years ago? Isn't it Abit early for a remaster?
i have lags when i watch at loot boxes, but only the first time.. its so weird
That's just UE4 DX11 multithreading for you. If you ran the game in DX12, it would've held up the fps way better.
I very much enjoyed the game when it first released, but my weak i3 processor was already getting low fps in the big city area, I havent even tried to touch this just given the poor word of mouth about performence, thanks for the update!
this just feels like it should be a free update
Thanks for bringing this up! I've also been putting playing it off and sort of forgot about it. Makes me wonder about games like Forspoken and Gotham Knights, you never see many if any videos where people go back to revisit busted games. At least not in my yt algorithm.
Very good and informative Video, thank you! Any Updates about fixes?
Why don’t you use windows 11? Any particular reason?
Love your videos btw
Ciao, this version is optimized on fiscal disc ps5?
what would you recommend for the GTX 1060 6GB?
Releasing a game standalone to claim it's fixed is criminal. Leaving the original owners no better off.
Ngl the OG looks better overall, I like the atmosphere.
Yeah it’s held up really well. Unique art style but I really like it :)
wait what? a remaster after just 3 years???
that seems... early
Unusual really for a remaster so soon…
I didn't know this was a remaster, I thought it was just a GOTY-like bundle that included the dlc
I love this game. Such a good time, with plenty of content especially with the DLC added
Yeah I’ve really got back into it lately it’s great!
@@RandomGaminginHDI was looking into playing this on switch even though I have a gaming pc with a 3080, ps5/ series X but I want to play it on the go or pooping since it's been improved I will pick it up on switch
been playing to buy and get the expansions on steam because I only had base game on epic. This seemed like the better buy but there was the problems with it, but then humble bundle game it to me. was still worried about giving it a shot, now I will! thx!
Thanks for doing this, was wondering how it is now.
I kove how vibrant the colors look on the remaster.
Wow. I didn’t even understand what game you were talking about because it looks so different. I played it on the PS4 and it was super dark. And while I finished it, the story didn’t do anything for me. It was a bit like Fallout in space, but without the charm. And it was hard to pinpoint why I didn’t like it, as it had it all.
For Linux users the OG version shows higher compatibility than the new version, per the Proton DB.
What about if I've got a series S? I'm trying to find some info on if the games issues have been fixed now spacers choice is on sale. But so far I'm struggling 😅 mostly jsut finding PC gaming /reviews. I was super excited it went onsale but now I'm quite reluctant appears still not worth it.
What about the RX580?
So... they 4x'd the hardware requirements, and made the game look worse...?
It looks like an over saturated, cartoony version of the original.
April 2024, I'm using a gtx1650 and this bug still happens
I think the OG would run more smoothly with a frame cap.
Well. The original version still has its problems. I finally got round to really getting into the game over the weekend. With my Ryzen 5 5600x, a 6750xt, 32gb Ram and NVME, the game runs very choppy. I've locked the game to 60 FPS and still get frame drops in all kinds of situations.
Huh, i had no clue Spacers Choice was a remaster i thought it was just the game plus dlc
I'm actually playing this game right now and it's fun and i enjoy it so much. No performance problem while playing like lags, error, etc. The gameplay also nice, with some jokes between the conversation, etc..
Bcs i really don't know the Original Version, i played straight to *Spacer Choice* .. one thing i really had in mind, *Supernova* difficulty are really hard for me or is it me just noobs 😂
Until this video I didn’t know there was a remaster. I thought the spacer choise edition ist the normal game with all dlcs like. Nice to have this now on epic.
Honestly this game itself is mediocre anyway, its barely an RPG its kind of wild how we went from FNV with tons of choice to "anarchists or super ultra authoritarian company" To be fair I bet very few people from FNV worked on this game.
I remember this playing really well on my 1650 laptop a couple years ago.
I didn’t even realize TOW had been remastered, feels only yesterday the original released.
so ..is it somthing i can play or should i stay away from it?
I’m on the fence about buying this. I got the original version for $12 but the load times suck, even on PS5.
Use 3 gig more vram on 1080 max setting
This is free on Epic Games today.
Also, I have NEVER seen any evidence of a whirling, twirling, hurling, hurtling, wibbling, wobbling, zipping, zooming, spinning and spiraling space ball, spherical "planet" earth and NEITHER HAS ANYONE ELSE.
Did it improve on consoles?
On PlayStation is called, The Outer Worlds: Board-Approved Bundle 😧
I got this for free on epic games installed it few days ago launched n what like how do I go into third person? After a bit of searching I found out I couldn’t and deleted the game what a waste of an open world, how do looter shooters with the option to collect new clothing not allow you a third person makes no sense. The 1st person doesn’t feel natural to me even when fiddling with FOV
Test like these here are just a great way to tell when you nowadays should actually start to purchase a game. Or in other words, how long after launch it takes for the to actually finish the product.
Don´t pay a premium just to be a beta tester peasant for free.
I have a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RX6700 MECH X2 GPU, with 2x16gb DDR4 3,700Hz RAM. Would this play okay on my PC? I really just don't know how good or bad my specs are. I know they aren't the best, but I also don't know what they are capable of. But I do know they're at keast decent.
I just tend to stick to indiengames woth my PC is all and use my PS5 for larger games, as they're cheao to get second hand. I've never properly tested my PC.
The framerates difference is a massive
Both version are 60 fps on Xbox series X
My game is having texture issues not loading properly even with rtx3050
same
Free for Christmas until 8am Pacific Time Dec 26th. Epic Games Store.
Does it not have dlss?
wth the performance is nearly halved!! For a remaster?! if it would have been a remake it would have made some sense but for just a reskin there is definitely something very wrong in the optimization
Is it me or it looks like crap overall? Or was always like that?
I loved the outer worlds when it came out I wish there was more with the theme of that game
Hey lets improve the visuals 5% but make the game 90% more demanding
Average remaster
This! They've essentially locked a lot of people out of playing it by slashing the performance by more than half on older hardware. It doesn't look any better than the old one...
