    • @berkertaskiran
      @berkertaskiran ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhilipKerryIf you're talking about CRT, sure. But choice of aspect ratio is purely subjective and there's no "best".
      I own 16:10 and 16:9 displays and I prefer 16:9 for most things. I would prefer 21:9 if I had one. It offers more immersion for both games and movies. And for web browsing and other stuff using a 16:9 monitor vertically would be ideal.

    • @PhilipKerry
      @PhilipKerry ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@berkertaskiran No 16:10 has always been the PC aspect ratio and 16:9 the TV aspect ratio . Monitors are made in 16:9 for one simple reason - cost , the companies that manufacture flat screens due so mostly for TV's and rather than incur extra cost by making screens in 16:10 for PC's they simply use left over TV screens in 16:9 . This has been known of since flat screens first came out so I guess that you are young and didn't know this .

    • @berkertaskiran
      @berkertaskiran ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PhilipKerry I am a filmmaker and I am familiar with all aspect ratios. There's no such thing as "tv aspect ratio" and "pc aspect ratio". Monitors have been 4:3 before 16:10 you do realize that, don't you? And where has that aspect ratio come from? The original tv format maybe? Sure manufacturers do all sorts of things to lower costs but TVs and monitors have different specifications that makes this not so viable. TVs will usually have more ghosting, worse response time etc. I haven't seen a factory on how they do these things but they probably use the same panels for all sorts of aspect ratios. So your 16:10 or 21:9 screen will probably come from the same panel of TV. If anything, today some TVs have better color reproduction than most monitors, including some of the best ones. I choose my aspect ratio based on my needs and not based on some preconceived idea. It's all made-up, in the end.

Most of the people that live in my complex are software engineers that either buy a house or move back to China/India and leave a lot stuff behind, mostly like new. My main gaming monitor came from craigslist, 32" Samsung 1440p curved for $20. It has a crack in the corner, about 5mm but it was enough to bother the original owner so he sold it cheap. My eyes rarely see it while gaming and a lot of games, the screen doesn't even use that portion of the screen.

    The only thing I don't like about this TV is its humongous bezels, which make it look more cumbersome than it actually is. Otherwise, great finding! Really nice for playing PS2, OG XBox and any retro console that supports SCART RGB.

    I used a small TV like this as a monitor over a decade ago. The trick is to use VGA, not HDMI. That will allow you to run at the display's native resolution without any overscan, typically 1360x768.

    Best deal I ever got was a $60 Asus turbo GTX 1080 here in the states. Sold for $250 at the end of the 2021 mining boom. Second deal was a $60 EVGA ftw GTX 1080 I sold the next day for $140 recently. It's surprising to see how much more affordable computer components are here relative to the rest of the world. Thanks for the great content as always!

    This would be ideal to use with on Xbox 360 because most games ran at 720p, so it would be quite authentic

    The problem with me and high levels of colour accuracy is that accurate colours don't reflect the way that certain colours 'feel' in your memory. High levels of saturation (and lower colour temps overall) far more closely resemble how i remember things feeling (snow is a good example)

    It's amazing to me how often I see tech tubers who will take a lower powered computer, hook it up to their 1080p monitor and then downres to 720p which looks a mess when they could literally just get a large 720p-ish monitor and it'll look beautiful because it's running native.

    So cool! I do the same thing. I hope it doesnt rain when I "donate" things like that. One man's trash is another man's tresure! 🙂 I picked up 4 chairs the other day. Someone had them sitting by the bin and I was like "woah" it matches the color of my house! I swiped them up. 😀

    I use one of these older tvs to play my Steam Deck docked. As long as it's the display's native resolution, 720p look just as good as 1080p in my opinion, and of course it means you get great performance.

    I picked up a really nice old sony bravia 40 inch lcd ,once i turned off the auto brightness the picture was superb and it had front mounted speakers that sounded decent worked fine in 720 p as you could alter the screen setting by default it was to zoomed in on pc vga or hdmi it could display 1080i by down scaling but the option to alter the zoom was greyed out so it the picture was always off the screen .so it was no good for my needs and i gave it to a mate who found someone else that wanted it .

    Retro gaming on CRT monitors often looks better because the pixels get stretched out and these games were designed to make use of this, which is why they look more full compared to if you hooked up a SNES console to a modern day display will look flat.

      That's the thing, the technology is different and the developers understood that. Old games didn't have that pixel look often seen nowadays in retro stuff. With the afterglow and the fact that the pixels are more round and brighter points are also bigger gives a completely different look.

    I have a monitor from a different brand with the same UI and also the joystick tends to turn off the monitor when trying to adjust anything. Easy fix with a universal remote which can train then you can use the remote to set things up. Although options are NOT abound, you may be able to fix stuff to better standards of resolution. Never plugged mine to a PC, as it works as a kitchen TV

    Call me easy to please but native 720p still looks pretty good on a smaller display (as long as the panel itself is of high quality). Worth it alone for the improved frame rate with lower end hardware. 720p gets a bad rap when it's upscaled or on bigger displays.

    A Free working TV I call that big win, and I have a few monitors like that in my collection of backups, and for when I'm building a super cheap system for someone else who also needs a monitor of any kind.
    Also yeah I still use a 21in Sony 5:4 VGA 75Hz LCD monitor at work on my small desk, and it's it's great for web pages, and office documents with it's taller screen aspect ratio, and YT videos still look good a sudo 720p rez.
