Had this update yesterday on my U7K. Noticed the changes in the picture menu settings. Added an HLG setting under the gamma heading for HDR. Also noticed the menu for Auto Dimming added some features as well. Have yet to test these out.
Was this "brightness" due to a preset level being chosen by the update? Or because of an actual increase in overall brightness? I'm concerned it's a curve increase not an actual improvement. These tvs are not actually accurate to that curve and like Samsung and some others the curve is played with to give an impression of brightness that is not and will never be accurate.
So it does appear they have removed that big jump in gamma with the update. Big jump as inthe Dark Detail when used for gaming in HDR or Dolby Vision. It appears now as a sliding bar for peak brightness or is now completely gone from their engineering and has been removed, insanity, for a setting that can do the same to a degree but not as well due to it being a gamma thing. Strange stuff with this update. I'd say overall an attempt to streamline at UK owners expense. The benefits are outweighed by a marketing poop/decision. Still checking to see what else has changed by removal.
My August update just nerfed my U8K. Dolby vision movies are dark and the game hub and all the features are gone on my 55 in Hisense U8K. It just updated Sunday and screwed the TV up
1. Ensure the TV is off and unplug it for a 5-10 minutes. Plug back in and check for improvement. If no, then move to step two. 2. Get your streaming apps user name and passwords ready as you'll have to re-enter everything as when it was new. Go into the setting menu - system- about and perform a factor reset.
Good friend, I'm from Costa Rica today, August 30, I updated the U7k with that same firmware, the brightness looks excellent, one question ❔ before this update, the HDMI dynamic range option could be used, but with this update the option in the Playstation 5 and Xbox series
The overlay for gaming is gone. No FPS counter etc. Anyone know if it was nixed? I mean that would be crazy of course for an update. It would mean another update just to bring it back but now with it gone I have to do multiple steps not to mention its a big part of why I bought the TV. I wonder if TCL will start removing features with updates too.
Isn't it interesting that no one ever mentions if the enhanced setting for 144hz is the choice for 120hz gaming or less or is there no difference between the 2 settings other than the increased fps ability.

I got this update, just today (65 inch)
I have the 55 inch u8k. I downloaded the firmware update yesterday. Huge improvement. Brighter, clearer and pops. Wow. Setting menu changed as well.
Peak brightness was added to the settings. Also pc gaming was added.

My Dolby vision was also dark after this update :(
@twodeepjay follow the steps on my other video and it should resolve the issue.

@@24hourgmtchannel64 I had to do a full factory reset to fix it. Thanks

@USA92 Did you verify the hdmi port is still in auto or enhanced mode?

Is there an easy way to see what version I'm on and what update this is?
@J2thebar Yes. Settings - System - About. Also Settings - Help & Feedback - System Message for software version.
