    Love these videos where you show how to diagnose by sound.
    Also the CSI forensics tricks you showed to see if the engine had been out was cool too. Would also be cool to see a video where you show to tell if a car has been in a wreck before.

    Bought an 01 VR6 GTI with a bad miss.
    Found it had jumped time by 2 teeth on one cam. No damage to valves. Installed new chains and tensioners and a bunch of other stuff while we had it apart. Runs awesome now.

    I had it (2011 Q5) go out of time on 2 different occasions and I was lucky that neither time did I have catastrophic engine failure

    Obviously I ended up here searching by error code that my Audi A4 B8 throws back.
    But man I have to say what a great job and how much effort you put in this channel.
    After the distribution was changed at a professional workshop two weeks ago, today I the engine was running like only 3 pistons were working and the car was wobbling like hell.
    On the scan I got this:

    Electrician first thought was that we might have to change the speed sensor but hearing from you that this might not be the sensor, bendt valves, doesn't sound good.

    Great ideas. My Chrysler neon 2005 had a similar issue two weeks ago. It stalled while i was driving out of my home to town, with a bit of ticking noise prior weeks before this day. When i tried to start, it cranked exactly like this Audi, but i avoided to press the gas pedal! Cranking was not as sharp as i know it and i almost thought its an alternator failure

    Another great video. My favorites are the 20min water pump swap and the start to finish engine removal with all the tips. Would love to see the complete process of reinstall. Your channel has given me tons of confidence in my 2011 Audi Q5, which I’ve owned 2 years (Audi redid the valve seals in 2015).

    Had the same error code. My audi A4 B8 petrol engine used to sound like a diesel engine. Changed camshaft and crankshaft sensors twice with no change until I finally changed timing chain and tensioner. Everything is now okay its been almost a year🥳

    Just bought a 2011 A4 with the 2T. I bought a timing chain. When it came i opened the box and thought " I can't beleive it's that small. Looks like a bicycle chain!" 😂

    Sounds like my A5 and yes on the intake side all of the valves were bent and had one on the exhaust side that had a hairline fracture

    Hey brother naptown! Just replaced my battery and now I have all kinds of new codes. P0016 p2293 p12a4. Car runs rough at low idle but doesn’t die and I can still rev it up no problem. I can’t imagine my new timing chain kit went bad. Absolutely confused by this. I had the car sitting and it ran fine before the new battery…

      Did you find the problem. I have a similar problem. Change my battery and got codes that I dont know of. P0016 Crankshaft etc. And it won't start just cranks like in the video

      Symptoms don’t usually present themselves when it comes to the chain and tensioner. You can use a program like VCDS to check the cam adaptation. Greater than +5 or less than -5 degree adaptations are a ticking time bomb.

      @@Thunderguy229 yeah, you’ve got a while, but it also depends on which tensioner you have too. 09-13/14ish had a crappy tensioner. There are vids to check to see if you’re gtg or not.

    Funny how this goes up almost to the moment. My TC Tensioner failed.
    Jumped 4 teeth. (Car was parked) On a No start! Not one bent valve.

      Once the updated parts are on it, it’s good.. I’ve towed with them in about 25 states pulling broken audis back home.

    Why does my 2014 Q5 only do intermittently? Like once a week for 3 seconds but only while at low speeds coming to a stop. Throttle blip corrects it. P0016 P0341 P0011 P000A. Clear the codes, goes away for another 400miles or so. Timing chain stretch measurement intake value adaptation I think it’s called is just under 2degrees

    Why is my q5 not getting fuel to the injectors ? Ecu ? A tote truck shuck it off its truck I didn’t have a key ! Now crank no start only off starting fluid

    Great point about people throwing the cam and crank sensors at this DTC P0016 it’s not the sensor (s) it’s the tensioner and chain.. did you ever get that Q5 back in time? Sorry I know this was last year but I have another’15 Q5 in my garage with same symptoms fast crank and Leak down confirmed no compression but it coughs and tries to fire but I’m about to take all the covers off and see .. luckily I don’t think the top end is damaged.. but we’ll do timing components and WP too I see it’s leaking and maybe media blast the valves . Great video here on the sound of no compression

      This is crazy but I have the same code but it says “Crankshaft position-Camshaft position”, I have a B8.5 A4, the car starts fine, it drives fine, it has pretty much all it’s power available, it doesn’t smoke or consume oil, it doesn’t make any noises at all, but it idles weird when it’s completely stopped and it happens most of the time but ramdomly, it’s like a weird on and off vibration and what I notice is that if I turn on the heater or A/C the problem almost goes away, no one has been able to find a solution for my problem

    The sound of the car sounds just like my 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan when my serpentine belt ripped and after 30 mins of driving, it was too late because I drove with no belt and bent my valves because it fucked my timing chain.

    Hey bro I got 2011 Audi Q5 2.0 t premium EPC light came on check engine light started flashing car stalled out got it junk got it to the parts store try to start it again and it really wouldn't crank and it had a ticking sound at the top end of the engine I seen in another video about a catalytic malfunction which makes the check engine light flash what do you think I should do

    Ok I change the timing on my 2009 Audi A4 and got the same code but what’s weird is that the car starts and runs fine then when I put it in drive it starts to run really bad then I put it in park and it still runs bad says the sensor blah blah blah would be the times of I mean made sure like over 20 times and it seems to be fine when I put it on but will I have to take it apart again or could it be the senser in my case ?

    Have the same issue man the code P0016 hate it I got check the tensioner take the whole front in out and replace the tensioner hopefully that's the problem I can't smog it until is fix

    I’m having this issue on a 2.0t bpg, car still runs , I’m gonna look into rear chain and adjuster , although I’ve recently replaced them. Do you happen to know crank and cam sensor ohm testing specs?

      I have an old outdated factory scan tool that my service manager gave to me. No online capability but I haven’t had a need to use anything else yet although I do have an unlimited vin Ross tech than I’m holding on to when my current scan tool no longer works

      It’s probably fine, I only know so much about this previous generation because it had so many problems. But the problems took about 3-4years to develop. Yours is still pretty new and it’s mostly based off the previous generation with some modifications

    I have a question what about a p0016 code on a running q5 had a chain jump but had pretty good compression so valve ok but code cam after chain replace think it's out a tooth it measures out right.

    I don't have the engine lift equipment to get it out of the engine bay nor a garage. Would it be smart to go through the bumper, intercooler, and peel back the radiator to service the chain and tensioner? I've had this code for a while now and the engine has been running ok. Lack of compression at times but i also have the underboost code as well for the turbo which ill be upgrading as well.
