EverQuest - Classic 1999 Tutorial

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 15 ส.ค. 2024
  • This is the original EverQuest tutorial from 1999. It was a separate .exe from the game. It was full of bugs and crashed all the time. As you can see here there is a game stopping crash towards the end of this video when you memorize the spell. I have tried playing that part on multiple PCs with it crashing at that same spot. It is impossible to get past that point.
    This tutorial was barely functioning through early 2000s and was completely replaced in 2005.

      @@DM-ks1pj Oh you MUST still be playing Everquest when you think lines like that still work. I would trade 2002 witty remarks with you, but since your obviously STILL an EQ player, your blood is like pancake batter and you can't go out in public without a electric chair, so you'll probably be dead by the time we even got started.

      Me too. Man I vividly remember watching a childhood friend of mine unbox and install Classic EQ. He was the first of the group of friends to have it, and I watched this tutorial crash over and over, laughing about it. He actually got fairly upset about it, remarking that I was ruining his birthday present by laughing at it not working right. Poor Daniel. EQ really saved my life, helping me from finding other much more harmful addictions to escape at the time.

    My first Everquest experience and it was amazing. I had never seen something like this before. It was May 1999 and I was 11 years old and full of hope for the future. Then I found CR runs and a gun has been in my mouth every day since.

    Excellent video thank you, when you were a Dark Elf Necromancer and you landed in the guild area trying to find your way to the Nek Forrest and then back again when you needed spells or training was hell!
    But eventually you worked it out like everything in the original game it was so much fun that endless frustration and in game death could not stop you getting there.
    Good times all consuming and it still can be.

    when i got my first pC it came with a copy of everquest, which i eagerly signed up for. I was too stupid to understand it needed a subscription fee (first time ever running into that.) It took over 2 days to fully patch it; and while it was patching I would play this. When it finally finished patching and i could enter the game, the game UI was NOTHING LIKE THIS and it took me 15 minutes to figure out how to log out LOL. It lives in my head rent free even after all these years; and ive since gone back to try Everquest multiple times, and ever gotten out of the Gloomingdeep Mines. But THIS....this lives on in my head eternally for some reason.

    Agreed. It was a cruel world out there, so you had to survive it together which ensured team work and created a real sense of community. Ask a question and you can guarantee someone would help you out. This is why I can't play modern mmo's like WoW, no doubt they're brilliantly made, but they just lack any real risk/reward system as they are aimed at people looking for instant gratification, thus you can port to all corners of the world in a heartbeat and death means nothing.

    Actually there are less bugs on the emulated server (project1999) than there are on the live server. Same with population. It is higher and the game itself is like it was in classic days. Its actually quite amazing how perfectly emulated it is.

    Instances, dungeon finders, and death having little meaning (repair bill in WoW) turned the MMO gamers into wusses. Servers were pretty tight-knit back in the day with all sorts of ethics and societal rules. It was a true online world.

    I remember this so well from my young teen years, Id give anything if Sony would release a classic only server that didn't go past the first 3 expansions, hell I'd even be happy with Planes of Power. I want a live server because it doesnt come with as many bugs as the emulated servers out there, not to mention a much larger community now that the game is F2P.

    They're right. P99 is less buggy than Live. There are some issues such as walking sharks and fish, shitty boats (worse than back in the day), etc. But a lot of that is because core functions of the game were built with DirectX features that no longer exist and thus have to be entirely rebuilt. That changes how things look and feel.

    Shut up and download p1999! It is absolutely brilliant, close to 1000 players on many nights and I suspect the number increases further after I've gone to bed due to my different time zone. Velious is being released probably within the year, so there's that to look forward to. Bug wise it really isn't that bad, merely occasional graphical glitches and heck how accurate an emulation of the classic experience would it be if it didn't have any bugs atall?

    Ì just started playing EVE Online 2 months ago and I have to say that it is a true challenging MMO. You lose you ship and everything on it when you die and the multitudes of types of ships and how they can be played is mind boggling for the beginner and even intermediate player. Real time investment that game is!

  • @Deathrydar
    @Deathrydar 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    EQClassic will be out soon enough. They are using the ORIGINAL trilogy client, while projects like project 1999 (no offense) used the titanium client and worked backwards to "make it feel classic". They did a pretty good job, but they did never get it right. You have one more chance to play Everquest the way it was meant to be played.

    • @choosetolivefree
      @choosetolivefree 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FOUR fuckin years ago and that project still isn't anywhere near completion hahahaha. Meanwhile, I've been enjoying the classic EverQuest experience for the last 7 years on Project 1999 server. Just last night I was in Castle Mistmoore with a group playing on my 33 Barbarian warrior. So much fun. You're never going to get actual EverQuest as it was in 1999 back. It's gone. But you can sure the hell get close, and Project 1999 is pretty damn close. Anyone who plays it certainly gets that old feeling back. Or you can wait another 10 years for EQC, and even when they are done coding, there is no guarantee of a server going up.

    • @choosetolivefree
      @choosetolivefree 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And really the main difference between P99 and EQC is the client UI. But the UI IS NOT the content, just how the content is presented to the user. Sure, the old UI is nostalgic, but in all reality, it sucks balls. It's the CONTENT of the game that is the real substance, and what really matters. And as far as the CONTENT is concerned, P99 NAILED it on the head.

    Everyone says they want a classic only server, until they realize that a classic only server would have the same problems as live had before Kunark was released. Once you hit level cap, there are very few places you can go for XP and once you're geared up with all the best gear for your race/class/deity combo, there's nothing else to camp for. What are you going to do? Spend all your time leveling alts once your main hits level cap? A classic only server always was a horrible idea.
