This came out perfect!!! My brother would be smiling and in awe of what you have done!! It is heartwarming to know that people like you and your wife exist… I did she’s tears at the ending but happy tears as it was just a beautiful perfect ending!!! Not enough thanks to you as this means the world to me and my family!! I go outside and just look at it in amazement. You have added to its history and my son will ride this with pride and joy!!!
This quad came out really nice. Impressed with how you mounted the front plastic. My 400ex front fenders need lots of fixing lol. Definitely gives me some ideas.
Hey bud, I’m watching your video and you’re putting it back together and I’m not seeing you put the 10 mm washers in with the head bolts. Did you pre-install those that I didn’t see in the video
This is amazing! Great job with the bike, I don’t have a 300ex but I do have a 250x first year model great bike, this video on how to rebuild an engine is great your video made me want to get all the parts of an engine and just build one be good times! God speed!
@@RCBGarage yeah I also enjoy working on small engine’s,I’m building a 400ex now, and I’ve watched a lot of videos, but yours were more in depth, I appreciate ya, you know alot!! And I appreciate ya sharing the knowledge!!
Hey so I need to replace my timing chain guides and I know how to get out the one but do you know how to get out the other one do I have to pull apart the bottom and to get it out?
@jakehamilton8544 Yes no extra steps are needed. Once fully assembled rotate the engine by hand 3 times using the crank bolt. If it rotates free your good to go.
@@RCBGarage I have a quick question why would my piston look pretty clean, but on the face of my valves and then the combustion chamber. There was a lot of carbon buildup and residue. Does that mean my rings are bad?
@@trevormclain5019 300EX engines are bullet proof, you cant kill them. I think the one I rebuilt lost the top end because the oil filter was installed backwards.
Hello Skylar, On the left side of the engine you will find two round plugs with screwdriver slots. Remove those and the valve cover on top of the engine. Rotate the engine using the nut in the big plug hole counter clockwise until you see the letter "T" in the small hole line the T up with the mark on the side cover. (Top Dead center) The cam sprocket should have both makes parallel with the top of the head and the cam lobs should be facing straight down. All 3 things need to be like this in order to be timed properly. If they are off at all you will need a new timing chain.

Your Very Welcome Donna. I really enjoyed working on your brothers 300EX and I hope your son enjoys riding it for years to come.
@@RCBGarage when I put my new cylinder on and everything feels correct and I snug up the 8 mm bolts. Why is the other side of the cylinder coming up?
I’m just now seeing this vid a year later but it makes me happy you giving back to the true hero’s of this country!!
hats off to you sir for offering this back to the family of a fallen military man.more should follow your example
You’re a class act man. Great work on the bike, and it takes a lot of respect and honor to do what you did.
I appreciate that!
Brilliant end to the rebuild 👏
This was a special one. The women was in tears when they came to pick it up. She also supplied me with his pics for the video. Thanks for watching.

I used an eBay head on 400 EX , compete video series on the channel it’s the first one I posted goes over what I found when using Chinese parts.

Hey so I need to replace my timing chain guides and I know how to get out the one but do you know how to get out the other one do I have to pull apart the bottom and to get it out?
Is there a reason for the bottle that is next to the carb
Its to catch any oil that might vent out the top of the engine. It keeps it from going into the air box. Its commonly called a catch can.
How do you adjust the timing chain tensioner when everything is new
The tensioner on a 300EX is automatically set by spring pressure. No adjustment needed.
@@RCBGarage so when I’m putting it back together from putting on a brand new cylinder, piston, and rings I just put it together normally

Whats you setting jets? Main and slow jets?
#40 pilot and #130 main at sea level
Are you sure the bottom end etc was in great shape ? Kinda sounded like a faint knock at idle please lmk.
The rod was in spec. And the bearings were smooth.

Where do you buy your parts for the trx
90% of the parts came from eBay, The rest I got from Partzilla!

thank you so much
i bet the last owner installed the oil filter in backwards ?, or...they ran it without engine oil ?. all this damage points to no oil in the top end.
china carb 100% !.
