That was really dirty oil Joe. I like that you ALWAYS change to be on safe side /examine for issues. My thought process exactly. Oil is cheap engines are EXPENSIVE. You buy by the case either locally or on Ebay /Amazon! Bel-ray makes best all around ATV oil I found thru studyin oil analysis. Amsoil is good but you don't always want/need FULL SYNTHETIC. *Semi-synthetic* any name brand 10w40 is perfect for 4-strokes! Been proven. If you race full synthetic 20w50 maybe!?
I still think the results will be the same regardless of tire size changes. The 250x was geared weird in 87-88, and geared completely differently 91-92
@@travisfranz4455 the result may be the same but I believe it would be much much closer. They are both great quads, but the 250X is a trail monster. Especially when you put 400ex arms and hubs on it. I'll be building one soon on my channel.

@@cass8144 the ratio difference is still the same. Swap tires and it would be much closer. The final drive makes a huge difference on both these quads.
A properly tuned carb you dont have to sit there and rev it when it starts up cold....take a notice you do that with everything you start up...let it sit n idle to warm up
I have a 87 250x . If u put a 14t front sprocket on instead of the oem 13t the top end will match the 300 . 250x in stock form is snappier with the shorter crank rod . Cool bikes to have as back ups
These Honda sport quads are good all around fun machines. Easy to ride. Not anywhere near 450cc class machines in power/ performance or even a 400EX.. but they are good trail machines! Sometimes you can find a clean older example. Similar to Yamahas legendary 350 Warrior I'd say.
I've got trx450 changed the sprockets to make it more woods and trail friendly but I ride the 300ex way more it's just way funner and softer ride I love my 300
My cousins had a TRX 250X from new till about 2002. They sold it with a cracked frame and that machine was ridden hard without ever leaving them stranded or having any major issues. They mechanically took great care of the machine at least, just over time it got cracks in the frame. I remember wanting one so bad and honestly would love to still have one, or at least a 300EX since they are easier to find.
If you buy a magnet and put it next to the oil if it has metel chunks the oil will move to the magnet and you will know automatically if it has metel inside the oil
better put a 330 kit on the 300ex first. I know from experience it'll make it a closer race but the 400ex is just a completely different animal. I'd like to see it anyway tho.

Would you rather have a 1988 250X or a 1998 300EX? I'm right in the middle of trying to negotiate a deal trading my 250 for that 300 or would you keep the 250 even though it's 10 years older and kickstart but just had it completely went through New gears 2nd gear had two teeth missing but had it all repaired on the 250 and I put a bunch of other stuff on it so would you trade that for a 300EX 10 years newer that you don't really know anything about?
@@jasonhall2984 I have an 87 250x and my dad has a 93 300 ex Both have been extremely reliable. Both are great on trails. It just depends on if you want electric start or kick start, because both quads are awesome.
The 250 and 300 are the exact same quad besides Kickstart and the 300 has a longer rod. they are both are capable of the same exact modifications neither has and advantage..
I commented on a video you made earlier last week about me selling my 1988 250x for a 1998 300EX you didn't reply I would like to know I honestly would you take the 1988 250X or the 1998 300EX? 10 years difference and apparently 50cc difference which would you rather have?
Start up let it idle 5 mins turn off do this a few times then start up same thing but add a few low revs do this 3 times let it cool down between each time you turn it on and off then turn it on idle then mid revs do this a couple times then turn off n u should be good

I got a 300ex from working on a farm for payment:it needed rings so put rings in it ran good but it was never as fast as I thought it should be my friend had a newer yellow 300ex with a cobra exhaust and he smoked me every time even the newer 250ex kept up with me. Then I decided if I was gonna be slow I’d be loud (like a idiot kid) and I literally cut the tip off the stock muffler and ripped the guts out so it was just a huge tube.. it was loud lol but made it even slower.
Now just imagine if that pipe was on the 300ex!!! Hugee difference! Now get a 330 big bore kit and race the 400ex!!! Mark my words, along with the 330 kit All you need is 14-36 gearing stage one hot cam and a stage 5 jet kit it’ll be a good ass race. I’m running my 330 with a stock cam but it surprised me when I went up against my friends 400 he pulled on me just the slightest bit
@@joemcdnlds360 Of course, the pipe will wake it up and give you a few hp when you jet it right and the 14 tooth will let you utilize the power more and lengthen your gears. The stock gearing is way to short for me, especially 1st gear.
Obviously the crank is different. U can't just throw a longer rod at it and all is good. I would say it's a bore size difference. Like the old 185 and 200 Honda. Just different bore, same stroke. Wise up!

The 300ex and 250x are pretty much exactly the same but the 300 is obviously bigger bore maybe different style head and carb. The motors are pretty much the same and if you took the plastics off you couldn’t tell the difference between the 2 quads
You should try out the smart carburetor it could make a good video not that i don’t like your videos of course i like your videos just wanted to put that in there 👍
All the sediment is on the bottom so looking at the dipstick only tells you the color. Letting the oil out of the case is when you truly see what condition it really is
I was wondering would you be willing to donate the front A arms and shocks off the white parts one to me I trying need them for my 300 ex so I can ride again and I'm very very low on money and not the best time in my life
That 250x should not be that much slower than the 300ex somethings not right on the 250x I’ve owned both them types of quads and raced them against one another and the 300ex should barley edge out the 250 on topend

The difference is mainly the rear tire size. The 300 has 22' rear tires and the 250 has 20'. Swap rear tires and run them again

The 250 has 18s not 20s. The 300ex has 20s not 22s

The front tires on the 250 are backwards the tread needs to be going the other way

duh less air drag... for speed fender are a slow down but for mud and stuff its cool saves u a bit from the mud.

It's not even close. I have a 300 and 400. The 400 smokes it every time. I also have a 250ex and the 300 beats it barely, just like this video.

Bigger jets or probably clutch plate removed on the 300. I think they are both 300s. The newer 250s dont have a clutch
