      Nice aesthetics and decoration, too. The tone is killer But above all your playing is, being truly soulful. Got here searching for Tonkers demos. I have a Laney Cub with a Legend 1218 (you would love both the speaker and amp). Keep it up, rock on brother!

    Digging the early Billy G tones bro! Great SOLID rhythm playing too! Been looking into Gary’s tone in the early Skynyrd days, and I think I’ll be getting one of these Mace amps to try out. Their price point can’t be beat, that’s for sure. 👍🏻😁🎸

      Guitarman Dan thank you very much! They take a bit of fiddling, but they are everything you need once you get them dialed in. Plus they have a massive sound

      vaughn6668 Sweet! Are you using any overdrive or distortion pedals in the vid, or is this the guitar straight in?

      Guitarman Dan Guitar straight in. No pedals anywhere

      Brown Sugar off the first ZZ Top album. It’s not verbatim, just the main parts with some embellishments.

    Are these kinda suppose to be like an eminence version of a jbl? Been looking for new speakers for mine but can't decide.

      R. Lee Craine some people are comparing them to old Fanes, but that wasn’t their intention. They are a part of the Red Coat line so they have a bit more of the British voicing to me. I listened to some online samples and was looking for a good sounding high watt British voiced speaker that could handle the the Mace. (This is through a 2x12) From what I could tell online, these were the ones I liked the most. In person, the lows are tight, upper mids are pronounced, and the highs can be a bit fizzy. I’m hoping the highs smooth out a bit with break in. I have some old Black Widows that are supposedly like JBLs, but there’s just too much highs in there for my taste. I don’t need that much definition since my cab is almost always miced.

    Hey man can you tell me the difference in the 320t Mace and the Mace VT.

    • @Vaughn6886
      @Vaughn6886  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      stephen fox mace 320t was the earlier model and circuit, had silver and black knobs, no footswitch, had series/parallel/effects/normal input jacks, these were the models that Skynyrd used. With the series input, you could run both channels in series. The VT series came later, had a footswitch, could switch between normal and effects channels or combine them to run in parallel. VT doesn’t have a series option. They have the blue,grey,and black knobs and have a very slight bit more gain. Both versions, have reverb and I know the 320t has phaser (I think the VT may have it as well) They both run 6 6l6 tubes and are 160watts. I’ve ran a Deuce VT and Mace 320t, to me the VT circuit seems easier to dial in with a bit more gain (it’s easy to use too much gain with the VT) while the 320t seems more raw and sensitive to dynamics. Both push a lot of air and are very loud.

      vaughn6668 sweet ..what kind of settings did Rossington set his amp to I’ve always heard that he plugged his guitar straight into the amp.

    • @Vaughn6886
      @Vaughn6886  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      stephen fox I think all of skynyrd plugged straight in. I’ve found that the settings vary quite a bit based on speakers and location. Gary used JBLs (D120s I think) in the early days and uses Black Widows now, both are high wattage speakers with a lot of top end. Best advice I can give is to use your ear, typically running the treble and mids around the same and cutting bass when needed. (Maces are very bass heavy) What I try to do (like Gary and Allen would do) is set your amp up for your lead tone with your guitar volume all the way up, then roll the Guitar volume down to for crunch and clean tone. (It’s always safe to set it a bit bright Bc when you roll down, you’ll lose a bit of top end. And if it’s ever too bright you can roll the tone down a bit. Better to have top end on hand than be too muddy/dark and not be able to do anything about it)

      @@87stevefox I have one left, 8 ohm 12 inches. I'm not sure how old it is, it appears to be a replacement and doesn't have the metal dust cap. I'd guess it was from the late 80's-early 90's

    What are your knob settings, if you dont mind me asking? Just picked up a mace and this is the tone I need lol

    • @Vaughn6886
      @Vaughn6886  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's been a while since that test, but I almost always have the Bass turned way down 2 or less (this amp has a lot of bass in general, so i have turned it all the way off several times), mids and treble between 6-8, pre gain between 6.5-8, post gain for volume (if you can get above 2, the tone improves) I always run into either a single channel or parallel input. The series channel has more harmonics and gain, but it doesn't clean up as well with guitar volume and doesn't seem as clear to me. Speakers make a pretty noticeable difference in tone for this amp. I've had some widely varying EQ settings for different speakers. Best of luck *edit* also keep in mind this is the 320t mace, the VT series mace has a different EQ sound and won't behave the same
