Here is why you should always advice to repair a Peavey Mace/Classic/Duece: quality of sound and quality of build. None of the alternatives you mentioned tick both boxes. The Katana sounds like everybody else having a Katana and de Blues Deluxe eventually breaks down due to it's cirquit board becoming brittle form overheating. Yes, they are cheap too, but don't hold value like this Peavy does.
Hot damn 6 6L6's ! Ive never tried one of these before, i think i may have seen one used at Daddys Junky music back in the 90s. They were all up on the Peavey gear. Interesting amp.
Ain’t nothing out there sounds quite like that one. Good to see somebody’s willing to spend to preserve. I’m partial to the deuce for being a little less insane on the total output situation and for lower mismatch complication potential. Might pass along to the brother that black widow speakers are a nice worthwhile upgrade. Is the deuce safe to run with one tube per side in the output with a presumed doubling of the speaker impedance? I never tried. I believe if I’m not mistaken that it was cathode biased and so possibly tricky. Three tubes per side obviously would be a heck of a lot more complicated.
I got 78 one for A$100 recently in Australia. The clean solid state preamp is a amazingly good and loud enough my any stage. The tube/valve end power amp is warm but very dark in tone and if you drive it, it has a fuzz tone rather than a traditional break up. With a decent overdrive pedal the amp sound really good and easily as good as a fender of similar vintage plus the phase is quite unique. My challenge is the reverb, it has a hum to it that really gets worse the more you dial it in. Do you have any suggestions on what may help reduce this - repair it?
Nahhh katana 3rd gen still doesnt come close to the glorious analogness of this amp. Ive had the katanas and the gain just isnt ...i can absolutely hear digital gain when i hear it now. In the room anyway
You must be charging too much money to replace those caps, or just trying to squeeze the last dollar out of your customer by putting up a video to that effect.
I can't believe that amp is a solid state, sound so warm and 3-dimensional
just the preamp!
Hell yeah he approved the repair. When you find your sound, a Boss Katana ain’t gonna do it.

I have a Mace VT which i understand was manufactured between 78 and early 80s. I think the Mace was before this time, early 70s until 77

How do you drain the filter caps on these? Clip on pin 1 of a power tube?

I have been thinking of picking up the deuce version of this amp
If you do, don't drop it.
@@PsionicAudio why is that? Will it put a crater into the earth ?
Nah, just (very) lowbrow humor. You drop a Deuce if you want to.
@@PsionicAudio actually come to think of it, the guy wants $200, so you do have to drop a deuce! LoL 😂
The Mace does Skynard!!!!!
If you need Skynyrd tone, not price is to high
