    Nice little detail:
Coco and Prissy were two of the dogs that Pongo wrote off as "too fancy" and "too weird", and yet they still were among the first to help get the twilight bark going, no hesitation whatsoever.

Pongo & Perdita might be the top contenders for best Disney parents:
    1) They tried to let the humans handle it, but immediately took matters into their own hands (so to speak) when that didn’t work, and through the use of the Twilight Bark, they managed to find out where their kids were within a few hours.
    2) As soon as they found out, they immediately left the safety of their home and their humans to go get their puppies back.
    3) They braved the winter wilderness, almost got hit by a vehicle, and crossed icy river rapids to get to their puppies, only to immediately jump through a glass window and get in a fight with two armed humans to protect them (and as Jasper stated, they fought dirty to do so).
    4) When they found out they now had 84 (technically) homeless puppies along with their own, their immediate response was to take them all home with them no matter what.
    5) They then trekked back through the wilderness (with a little help from their friends), through a blizzard, from Suffolk (the Great Dane said that’s where they were) to London (which according to Google is 81 miles) with 99 puppies in tow, all while being chased by a psycho who wanted to turn them into coats, and managed to get them all home completely unharmed, just covered in soot. 😊
Pongo & Perdita. Best Disney parents, hands down. ❤

Ya know you make a great point, I once said judge Clyde frollo was the scariest to me because people like that actually exist, but I had completely forgotten that people like cruella exist too.. my point I guess is if you compare Disney villains while scar, and ursela are scary Clayton, frollo and cruella are scarier because they represent the worst in people.. I said this to my family once and they told me I put way too much thought into it..

Dalmatians are known to have big litters. My own Perdita came from a litter of 16 pups. Her mother Coco (Liver spotted.) and her father Triton (Black spotted.) Were first time parents. There was a dalmatian here in Australia named Melody, who had 19 pups! (World record holder.)
Coco gave birth to Perdi and her younger sister yet had to have a c section to get the rest of the litter out safely. Thankfully, they all survived and all went to amazing loving homes. (I was asked to take the remaining 3 pups as the owners were moving, I told them, I'll take the bossiest pup out of the trio... and my Perdi is the sweetest, most gentle girl to everyone. :D )

Ooo, for dog-centric animated movies - “Balto”, “Oliver and Company” (okay technically the main character is a cat, but there’s way more dogs in the cast and just one cat), “Wolfwalkers” (okay this one’s a stretch, it’s more of a “people who can turn into wolves” movie, but it’s a truly gorgeous animated film), and for non-animated I gotta recommend a classic from my childhood that I recently saw another reactor watch, “Homeward Bound”! And for an animated film that centers around a different animal, “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” is my all-time favorite film, it’s an animated Dreamworks movie about horses.

Hey Tim, if you’re interested there’s a book this movie is based on by Dorothy “Dotie” Smith. Where she got the idea after at a party a friend said that her Dalmatians would look good as a fur coat which would serve as the inspiration for the book.
There’s also a tie in book by Serena Valentino that goes into Cruella’s backstory and answers a lot of your questions.

This was the first Disney film which used the Xerox process to copy the animator’s drawings directly onto the animation cels (hence the “sketchy” look of the animation).

PS you should definitely think about some of my other options even though it’s been a long time since I’ve seen the ones I’ve just mentioned but mostly because of my mother as well. She loved 101 Dalmatians that’s why whenever she was like really little because she grew up with this movie, she always wanted to Dalmatian or like something that would make her say aw like a dog and that’s why we got Sunday even though Sunday is cute she’s like the coolest, but she’s not as cool as hacker kitty though or as hello Kitty, hello Kitty was wearing like a DD‘s outfit but anyway that’s beyond the point and if you don’t know who I’m talking about then I think they made a doodle bop movie You should definitely. that one too, and the other ones I’ve mentioned like the live action, Clifford, the big red dog and Ozzie as well plus the other ones I mentioned, including the many adventures of Winnie the Pooh and tigger tooo and the book of Pooh stories from the heart I know that you would really like that one too

An interesting fact, but not necessarily a happy one: after the 1991 version of this movie came out, parents went out to buy dalmatian puppies for their children in droves. It went from 8000 dalmatian puppies sold in a year to 42,000 puppies sold after the movie came out. The American Kennel Club called it Dalmatian Syndrome. However, Dalmatians can be a challenging dog to own. They are high energy and need both physical and mental stimulation, they can be snappy and unpredictable with kids, and they are big enough to be a nightmare if they aren't properly trained. Within the next few years, the number of Dalmatians at shelters and rescue organizations more than doubled. Disney received a LOT of backlash over it, and they made adopting animals and responsible pet ownership a major theme in 102 Dalmatians.

The show that the puppies watch on TV is Thurnderbolt, and the concept would be re-used for the second animated movie (I loved that movie, I really liked the dinamic between Thurnderbolt and Patch) but originally, it was supposed to be Rin-tin-tin, wich was a real show starring a german sheppard. In fact, I reckon it was The Show that made the breed popular, back in the day.
(same as Lassie did for the Rough Collie and Beethoben for the Saint Bernard)
Rin-Tin-Tin use to be a meme (for the time) and in some movies you can catch references, like, the show "Komissar Rex" was basically the remake with the same concept only on modern times with a police dog... nowourdays it seems only old cinema fans remember Rin-Tin-Tin and Lassie, with Beethoben starting to be forgotten
Man I would love to see a new animated show with Rin-tin-tin or Rex, and if they could do like, a crossover with Lassie that would be great!
Like, Imagine Rin-Tin-Tin as the old experienced dog that's training the new recrute, a young Rex and lassie would be the girl who is girly but still smart and very though, I think she would make a good pair with Rex... maybe you could have other characters as references like Patch looking up to rex and wanting to be a firefighter when he grows up and stuff
    ...great, now Im rambling

This was the first Disney film to use xerography which allowed them to print all the spots on the dalmatians

    • @DelGuy03
      @DelGuy03 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes! After Sleeping Beauty (which ate up masses of time and money -- to beautiful result, certainly), they were looking for different possibilities. The then-new Xerox process saved them from having to hand-draw every cel, with all those dogs and spots in every scene. It's connected to the different more "stylized" look of the picture, not trying to look real.

Its well agreed by most fans that Cruella is the worst Disney Villain just for her motivation being murdering puppies for coats.
What's hilarious is that this has become so prominent you get scenes like the one in the musical Twisted by the theatre troupe Starkid where when all the villains of Disney come together in a song to justify their actions and Cruella comes out they all just start yelling at her about how effed up that is. In Jafar's words "Why would you do that?!"

Cruella is essentially a caricature of the actress Tallulah Bankhead, famous for her love of furs. It must have seemed obvious to the Disney team that they should do that, given that they were adapting a novel about a character with a fur obsession; and certainly most adults when the film came out would have recognized the Tallulah reference, even as it went over the heads of children like me. Alfred Hitchcock also had some fun with this actress' widely recognized association with furs: in his movie Lifeboat, we first see her in an isolated lifeboat (with several other survivors in it) somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, wearing a fur coat.

As amusing as the new Cruella film is, I really can't see that Cruella as this original one. The characters are simply too different. It's part of a long series of films that try to rehabilitate villains.
