Aloha Misty!! Mahalo for your honest review and the Shrimp Toast with Sesame looked quite interesting and 12.99 Zip Like Pac looks like a good deal! And I understand with the lawnmowers. They seem to know when I'm vlogging too. One time at Ala Moana.. they had the whole band drumming practicing when vlogging. 😂😂 Have a nice weekend👍🤙
Aloha Misty! We’ve never heard of shrimp toast so might need to try it to experience it. The cake noodles looked delicious with the beef and broccoli gravy but understand the slight disappointment in the mushiness of edges. Same disappointment with mushy rice! Their zip-pac/bento looked good. Overall good portions and affordable pricing. Mahalo for taking us along on this Kalihi adventure!! Happy Aloha Friday!! 🤙🏽😋
Aloha Michelle & Jose! Yes great comparison! Mushy rice is a no no. I would say it's mediocre honestly but if you're hungry and on a budget they give a lot of food for a fair price.
Aloha Misty! Good looking plates for a good price too. I’m gonna have to try the shrimp toast out of curiosity. Never heard of it before. I only recently tried cake noodle and enjoyed it. Been living under a rock I guess 🤭. Thanks for including the time you went. Not crowded. 👍🏼 Mahalo for the video. Have a great weekend!
Aloha Misty: Thank you for taking us along to our old neighborhood! A cake-noodle dish is something I look forward to it each tine I return home - a treat for me, especially the one with the chicken-based sauce. It is an art to properly get it to be crispy. The last time I had it was at Nice Day Restaurant, Liliha Sqaure, which was fine. That mixed-dish plate looked great for the price, and it had enough food for a whole day. I need to visit Waikamilo Shopping Center when I get home. Keep-up the great, and “yummy” blog. Best wishes and much 🧧! Much 🤙, to my fellow 🐯1
Aloha Bill! Yes the portions were very generous for the price. I think the best cake noodles can be found in Chinatown. Nice Day we go to a lot for family gatherings. If anything the Old Pancake House in Waiakamilo Shopping Center is winnahs for breakfast! Have a great weekend and take care. 🤙
Yeah it's a Hawaii thing and you can't find it elsewhere. It's baked noodles in a square pan until the outside is crisp but the inside is still a bit moist. It's cut into squares and gravy is poured on it. The gravy is Chinese style similar to the sauce of beef broccoli but lots of it is slathered on. In the gravy can bee beef, chicken or shrimp with veggies. The noodles soak up the sauce but it's still crispy when you eat it.
Hi Misty , I’m 224th on the LikeButton 👍 Lol. Shrimp Toast is great , here it’s called Prawn Toast with a Sweet n Sour sauce (it’s red in colour) It is usually on our Chinese Restaurant Menu’s. Cheers Rod 🤙
I also loves local foods they do needs ours support to survive thank you for sharing your beautiful video today foods looks delicious have a fun weekend Misty Peace

Misty, thanks for sharing! That “zip pack” actually looks pretty good. I need to check it out! Next time you get a zip pack, ask for gravy on the rice, super good! 😄
Wow, that is sad. I didn't knew that Waikamilo Drive Inn had closed; KHON 2 News (had a(n) old video clip) Food 2 Go segment interviewing a worker there: Michael Lamb). I often went there, once in a while for breakfast, with one of my parents, and her church friend. What did I had for breakfast there, back in the day ? Portugese/portagee sausage, ham, scrambled eggs, and steamed white rice; either: orange juice, fruit punch, soda or water. The owners allowed you to use their restrooms. I liked the place next door too (the original Pancake House; I didn't get a chance to checkout the Ala Moana branch of the Pancake House, across from the Inspiration furniture store).
Yes so sad. I believe the owner retired. The Original Pancake House is great and also a time warp. I've eaten at both, but seem to like the Kalihi one more. Thanks for watching!
I never had cake noodle ! Shrimp Sesame Toast something new ! That's a hefty Zip Pack ! A Go to for the beach ! Love your honesty Misty ! Yes ! go for Local Business !
you never had cake noodle?????????OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! but just depends on where you patronize and the gravy sauce and meat tenderness.....I think Patti's Chinese Kitchen had the best BBCN!!!!
While you in the Kalihi area...not sure if you tried the restaurant inside Palam Market, Kalihi but I really liked the food there...especially the sundubu, tofu soup. I want to try this Lucky Box out next time I'm in Kalihi.
Oh Sista been so long since having cake noodle. Looks so ono. We have only had it back home. Never see it here in Washington. Spam looked ono as well. Take care sis & God bless you.
Howzit Misty, been a viewer for quite sometime but dont usually comment 😂 Just wanted to say thanks for always keeping it real with your reviews! Love it! Take care and keep up the great work! Aloha, Linda 🤙❤️🤙
Hey Misty I hope all is well with you. The shrimp sesame toast is popular at Chinese restaurants or take out places, but there isn't that much sesame seeds usually, I like them but they are too oily. The other food loos really good ☺
GREAT!!! now I gotta visit them again and buy beef brocolli cake noodle!!! Wonder if you tried the Sweet Sour Ribs plate.....? that is awesome and it sometimes goes special on that board on the window......but its so darn good that even if its regular price, I buy it cuz its worth it!
Oh the spare ribs sounds good. The cake noodle sauce was bomb. I ate the leftovers with rice the next day because they give plenty sauce. The crispy parts are yummy but there was soggy gummy parts on some cake noodles and that was disappointing. I hope that part improves. Otherwise it would be great! Maybe I went on an off day.
Great review, Misty of a new place targeting good food at bargain prices. That bento box could feed my wife and me for a couple meals. And that’s a win for Honolulu which just made #1 for cities with the highest inflation. Tip: Camille’s Hawaiian Food in Westgate. I haven’t tried it yet but word of mouth it’s 🔥. 😉
Yes, lots of food given. Hope they correct some minor things to make it taste better. I will put Camille's on my long list LOL. Westgate Shopping Center has great eats and glad there's another restaurant in there with ono grindz! Mahalo for the suggestion!
Thank you! No I haven't. I don't really do Korean food much as my mom cooks a lot of Korean food and I'm sort of picky about it. Anything that stands out from there?
Shrimp toast actually sounds really good. I'd go there just to try that! And yeah, cake noodle is an art to make properly. I'm thinking it was cooked to too high heat and too quickly, like if you bake a cake on high heat and the outside bakes but the inside is still wet.
That bento looks like the old waikamilo deobe on bento. I wish someone would teach them how to marinade with Aloha shoyu and some sugar. Piece of ginger too ,would help.
Yes but this one had portions that were gummy too. I didn't care for it. The couple pieces they gave was the corners and that was crispy. Hope it improves.
I love that you don't go with the trend & judge for yourself. I miss Minute Chicken or any cake noodle the most living on the Mainland. They still make egg fu young here ugh.
Nice job on the video! What happened to the drive inn just up the road? They had the meanest tripe stew. But they closed down and was wondering what replaced them…hope to see you later on! Like that skallywag cigars tshirt! 😂
@@FoodFiend in fact....that restaurant that replaced them.....if I am not mistaken (sorry if I did....) also folded....now ANOTHER business is taking its site. One of the reasons why this new place is better, to be honest.....I also DID patronize WDI....but the proprietor (folks would probably say RUDE) was so-so. She had her "personality" and it might have affected her business.....I seen MORE crowds/customers in Lucky Box than at WDI......the folks there are ALWAYS friendly!!!!
@@Waynes-xt9gr yes the lady at WDI was not friendly at all. Yeah the 3 star gourmet that took over Megs also folded. Too bad because i thought the food was good. but not interested in the new place that took over either.
I've heard of shrimp toast as a westernized Chinese creation in England (like fortune cookies/chop suey in the US) but never tried. Was interesting to see it offered and would try just to see what it's about. I saw the landscape guy pass behind you with the leaf blower and thought...on man, he's gonna put that thing on turbo. That is sooooo how things go 🤦♀️. But it didn't didn't disrupt the audio 👌. And yes, leaf blowers kick up a lot of dust. I've been at stop lights when some guy just blasts lawn clippings and dust all over my car....auwe, that's when my RBF becomes even more RBF 🤦♀️😑😅! (BTW, and knowing your list of places must be a mile long, there's a place called The Nighthawk in chinatown. I've tried their bacon cheeseburger, Italian beef sandwich, and Kung Fu Ham (deep fried pork belly). If no mo leaf blowers around and you get time, try check em out, was ono 🤙.)
LOL yes the RBF comes out even more. 🤣🤣So annoying because the rocks totally chip your paint. I just replaced my windshield from a rock on the freeway that cracked it. That's why I don't want to buy a new car. Mine is old and I don't care if people dent or knick it with their door. Thanks for the suggestion of Nighthawk. I'll put it on my list. Sounds great!
I ate there a few times. I tried multiple dishes. Imo, avoid anything that is more western like - Spaghetti and stuff. The cake noodle is good. I like how its more of the crispier small ones and the gravy they use is ono. The cake noodles are my favorite for this restaurant. The BBQ I feel is still done better by L and L but its still pretty good. The drinks can be sweet though so your mileage may vary depending if you are a sweet tooth person or not.
Maybe it was an off day, but the gummy middle in the cake noodle was not my thing. It's good to know the other dishes are good since you've been there a few times. 🤙

It may have been easier for you to do the review at home since you don't live that far away. I know that for me, eating in the car takes some juggling around.
The glasses were on for just the intro. Sorry you don't like them. I don't want to eat in my home anymore. Takes too long to set up extra lighting, etc as my house is dark. That would make the food cold.
