    Get the book if you don't get what he's saying. There are other videos with Manuel at a clinic. I love his technique and no longer think about all the bullshit I used to think about when making a swing. NOW I just set up for my target (with a proper grip) and SWING to that target. Most of the time the ball goes right out there to or near my intended target. It's lovely.

    One of the most enjoyable informative videos I have ever seen.Listening to Manuel makes you realise how easy the golfswing is and how much golfers overthink and complicate it.Golf is and should always remain a simple uncomplicated movement of the body to propel the ball to its target.

    Rob, Manuel does NOT separate the face from the club. He has always taught ball starts in direction of the face. When discussing the club he is referring to the entire club.

    There is an obsession with arguing about the discrepancy between what Manuel de La Torre teaches and what Ernest Jones taught. I actually don't get lost in that minutia. Many people don't enjoy golf as much as they should because they tinker every week with their swing and do this for years. I am all about keeping things simple.

    • @emncaity
      @emncaity 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      David Arbelaez: Well said. We have an entire generation of "players" (and I'm using the term loosely) who'd rather argue technique down to the molecular level (online or elsewhere) rather than to simplify things in a way that would make hitting a golf ball more or less like anything else you do every day, without knowing the exact angle of every limb, the exact order of the firing of 72 muscles, etc.

    Fred, Manuel sat at the feet of his father (Angel) and Ernest while they discussed the swing. Manuel's shift to the reference to the arms instead of the hands was a pragmatic response to the fact that too often the reference to hands confused students and they would begin flipping at the ball with their hands. Shifting their focus to the arms eliminated that problem for them and expedited their progress.
    In recent years Manuel has further evolved to no longer mention the hands or the arms. Instead focuses on merely directing the students attention to the club and what it should be doing. He completely circumvents the matter of what body part should be used to accomplish the task. This has proven to be even more expedition.
    In discussing the swing with de la Torre, you will find no one more committed or have a greater command of the Jones concepts.

    Brian, you are correct. Though would add you rotate the club to amount you wish to curve the ball, set face to start direction and align to the shaft which is determined by the amount the face is rotated. Swing there for the curve. Thank you for your post.

  • @briano6268
    @briano6268 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Manuel teaches that if you wish for your ball to go DIRECTLY to your target then you must have your clubface aimed at that target at address and then you must swing your club in the direction of the target. When he discusses purposely curving shots he teaches that you must aim the clubface along the line upon which you wish to start the ball and align your club and yourself further to the right (draw) or left (fade). Then you simply swing your club forward along your body line.

    At 25:14 he talks about the direction of the backswing and retracing the direction when you go forward. He then goes on to say not to retrace the path. When he says "direction" what does he mean. And what's the difference between the direction and path. It's not real clear.

    • @br5448
      @br5448 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, subtle and difficult. I thought about it and I believe he is saying trace the direction back toward toe up to the target. If you get stuck in the actual path then you are likely to lose focus on the target. And will confuse yourself because then you don't have a method for determining what you did and only feel...

    • @joshb804
      @joshb804 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Garry Major No, he kept it same for all clubs. You can widen feet with the longer clubs, but ball position remains the same as you want to hit the ball at the bottom of your arc.

    Molly Solomon has single-handedly ruined the Golf Channel since she was appointed to run it. Just view this beautiful 40 minutes of television. Great host. Great teacher. Good for all golf enthusiasts. Look at what’s on the GC live today - A know nothing host (Damon Hack) and some foreigner (Don’t even know his name) talking about the politics of golf - Who cares ! Morning Drive cancelled. Feherty cancelled. GC Academy cancelled. GC Studio in Florida (where all the pros and instructors live and are readily available) moved to Bristol CT. If I didn’t know any better you’d think Joe Biden’s brain was transplanted into Molly Solomon’s head.

    These shows where an interview is the format are always scattered because the interviewer tries to lead the guest in the direction the interviewer wants it to go. I would much rather that they put Manuel out there and let him do a one hour lesson without interruptions. Phone calls should not be a part of it. I will tell all of you who are unfamiliar with Manuel's method. It is correct and it will work wonders if you think things through, give it the time and you give it the effort.

    Rob. Your statement confirms what Manual said, "the ball going in the direction of the swing". You cannot swing left and have the ball start right, it's impossible. Think about billiards. If the clue is going off line to the right the clue ball also goes offline to the right. The face angle at impact doesn't determine initial direction, it determines amount of side spin.

    • @JimPearsonAUS
      @JimPearsonAUS 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Unsworth (WannaGolf) Correct, but largely irrelevant. The clubface does largely determine initial path, but the effect you speak of only occurs when there is significant shaft lean forward at impact; viz, contact is made well before the shaft becomes vertical, which means the clubface, is still on the downward and relative outward part of the inclined plane while the body, arms, hands may well be turning left by this time! This occurs usually when using the body, hips, legs, to move forward into the downswing; not something that Manuel teaches at all!
      If you understand Manuel's teachings, he promotes swinging through to the target without conscious weight shift, only suggesting weight shift should occur after the ball is struck and as a consequence of that. Ergo! What you then have is an almost vertical shaft at impact, using true loft to strike the ball and a clubface that is essentially aligned with club path!!.

    I use my legs hips back shoulders tremendously but if they dont work in harmony with the arms its wasted effort! The reason you have to use the bigger muscles is entirely due to the swinging weight of the club.When i play badminton or tabletennis i dont consciously use my big muscles, if i was swinginging a pickaxe i would.Unfortunately the swinging weight of a 6 iron at 90mph+ is nearer to a pickaxe!
