Nice fabrication skills. Finishing your welds after grinding high spots with 120 grit orbital sander will make your welds ten times cleaner and use a lot less filler/primer to straighten the area.

Maybe Dave it was drinking the box of Budweiser for the cardboard template material that threw your measurements out --- lol, nice recovery though.

Great stuff as usual mate. I'm mid 40's and just getting back into welding rusty old Holdens in Aussie. You're a great inspiration. Cheers. I do have a Mk1 coupe that's next. With not much rust.Yay.

All's well that ends well Dave! Another top job. I bet Fitzee has used cardboard and paper templates at times, there is no other or better way sometimes. Not all TH-cam channels are as honest and down to earth as yours! Looking forward to the next instalment.

That n/s genuine wing put up a lot less of a fight than the o/s pattern wing even though it had rust and had been torn off another car. You did a great repair on that inner headlight area where they always rusted. I've said it before but I bet there thousands of genuine wings been skipped for the want of far less work than that one needed. You made that look really easy, Fitzee would be very proud of your work.....I'm sure he subscribes to your channel!

warts n all dave thats the way, mistakes are a lesson in themselves and must be shown to alert those who are about to self restore so they dont fall foul,i have measured and cut short many times and i never throw away anything so my family say,yes it is true but when my family or my friends want anything they call me first, another good one dave your really setting standards in diy metalwork.

Doing a great job Dave. I like the cardboard approach for making templates if I ever need to make a repair piece. Then once happy move on to metal . Each to their own so long as the result is good.

I think it’s so interesting that you use both Imperial and Metric measurements! LOL…. “A million MILES off,” “30 CENTIMETERS,” “one INCH,” 1000 MILLIMETERS,’ etc! 😂. From the U.S. we used to use just Imperial, but due to the automotive industry outsourcing so many parts overseas, we are being driven into the metric system as well.

🤣 it's my age, brought up on both measures

Sadly the Ford designed mud-trap has been perpetuated. A blanking plate between the wing and the headlamp panel needs to be fitted so road filth cannot cnngregate and rot out the side of the wing and the panel you just crafted.
