I love Lochte. Man these questions seemed brutal for him. Just the fact that he gave it all for 2021 trials is inspiring. I love how positive and optimistic he is.
Never been a big fan of Lochte, but I think one of his major contributions has been the possibility of longevity in the sport. He talks about wanting to make the sport bigger, and by competing at the highest level for so long he's brought attention to age being just a number. He may have finished 7th, but 7th in the U.S. at any age is still pretty darn good!
Appreciate your comment. I also hope that part of his legacy will be that redemption is possible. That, if we'll allow it, people can and will change for the better. He's worked hard, and he deserved this opportunity. Maybe he'll help us all be better people?
So very sad for Ryan but proud of him still ! Yes i believe in redemption .I've gotten it and Phelps has as well. Ryan has a great heart..Good luck in your future if you ever see this Ryan.
If not for phelps either Ryan or Lazlo would be considered the GOAT, much respect to probably the best IMer in history. I think a phelps/lochte duel at masters nats would be epic
@@varunshahvo-tv9854 um idk where you learned how to count, but ‘04, ‘08, and ‘12 is 3 good olympics. He also is super decorated in world championships medals, including a lot of 200 IM gold where he would beat MP
if not for phelps anmd lochte, Lazlo would not have reached the level he has. those 3 pushed each other to be the best version of themselves and it was amazing to watch.
Lmfao ryan was never in phelps shadow, he was competing as good as Michael and he made some big contributions to this sport ( the 2nd highest medals after phelps ) , Phelps is a GOAT but Lochte isnt definitely in his shadow
I was rooting for him, this makes me a little sad. Life happens the way it’s supposed to, he’s going to do great things for swimming. And Please do it Ryan, make swimming bigger & better. Can’t wait for that.
Passionate and heartfelt interview. I have grown to value his ark of redemption these past few years more than the medals, records, etc. One of the true legends in the sport.
This must have been a humbling experience for him and he handled it like a true pro. He really seems to have grown up over the years -- good for him. Don't forget -- he's still one of the GOATs.
I’m so glad that he has grown as a person! I was hoping that he would make the team but unfortunately he didn’t, which is fine. He’s still swimming at 36, the same age that my dad was when I was 1, to think that someone is still that fast at that age is amazing! We love you Ryan
I’ve literally never seen him looking so bright and happy (despite the tears). I’m genuinely so so proud of this man and I only hope for the best for him. Thanks for being an inspiration buddy🥲✨ LOVE FROM FL
He had the great....burden of swimming at the same time as MP. His behavior in Rio was juvenile, to say the least; I'm really glad he turned things around. Should this be his last hurrah at the Trials, it's much more graceful? Mature? Better than Rio, by far. Much respect to you, sir.
@@Easterly888 ...by security after vandalizing and urinaring on osomeone else's property. How many of us can say that? I'm not holding it against the guy any more but let's call a spade a spade.
Every sport has someone who is better than the previous ones. No one wants to accept that they cannot perform at a level needed. Lochte has made his mark in swimming which will never change.
Q what are you the most proud of: 1)". Being a father" 2)" concerning swimming the friendships being a role model to younger kids the places I've been the people I've met " I want to expand the sport of swimming get it broadcast more; it is the most popular sport during the Olympics.
Even if he did not qualify for this 2021 olympics, he already prove what he want for the past years. Being in usa olympic trial is hard and dominating @ podium in olympics is much more harder. Still proud of you sir👌🏼
Ryan in Rio killed me (probably all of us who have admired his feats in the pool through the years). He was so small then, in the aftermath of the incident. I remember thinking this guy needs to grow up - fast - or he’s going to go down, down, down.. I prayed he would have his come-to-Jesus moment of great clarity, and that there would be people around him who would call him on his s**t. I have followed him since, and I was blown away by this interview session. He IS a different man from four years ago, and he has let no one down! Just the opposite: he is living proof that redemption and grace are possible if you sincerely search for it.
It’s always been a pleasure watching him swim. He should go on and become the “fun“ ambassador for swimming. As far as swimming goes, stick to masters competition appearances. It seems to me that he’s getting the right kind of advice now and should be good to go from here on out. I actually would worry more about Phelps, than I do about him.
Thanks to Peter Attia MD, I watched this heartfelt interview. Through Attia’s summary and this interview, I think I have a much more balanced perspective on the authentic Ryan Lochte and not just his poor choice / behavior in Rio. I appreciate Ryan’s honesty and vulnerability in this interview. So glad his plans include making the sport available to more and his inspiration for youth. Go Ryan!
It's sad he is retiring but I don't get why he said multiple times in the past year that he was aiming for a WR in the 200IM as he was doing times in practice that he'd never done before. A +5sec gap vs a WR time is a big gap, Troy and himself must have known he had 0 chances of going to Tokyo.
I watched Ryan on Big Brother and saw what a truly sweet and honest person he is. As we age, our minds think we can still perform like we did when our bodies were younger. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible. You will always be a hero, and you will always be a winner. Best of luck to future endeavors. Many doors will open for his career. Much respect!
He should have never been allowed to compete again after he disrespected another country’s rules. He is an embarrassment to America. Some people get away with everything until fate intervenes and says ‘You Blew It, when you had your chance.
He served his suspension over a story that, sure he embellished, but so did the Brazilian police, in my opinion to a larger extent. He has already been punished
Such a humble dude. I made an effort to get down and shake his hand at the meet. A true ambassador for the sport. So Proud of him. Thank you Ryan.the old time swimmers are rooting for you.
Amazing Lochte, I think he put so much pressure on himself…but this is swimming and an addicting sports…we all love you, your right…swimming is one sports that emphasizes family…
All these guys I am sure love to be the winner and hard to realize the reality that that is not a case, there will always be someone faster at some point and you feel defeated and having difficulty accepting it. The option is either blame themselves or blame someone else.
I hate the commentators have no respect or empathy for the competitors. "You finished 7th..." For God's sake, Lady, he's a world record holder. He's still competing in the Olympics after over 8 years. WTF is wrong with you!
One of the other GOATS is gone from the swim team!!! Thank you for all the great years and all the gold medals!!! He will probably be back in some way shape or form for the United States Swimming Sport!!! Congratulations on all your accomplishments!!!!
It's such a cruel sport.. Such a great athlete, only to watch these 18 year olds outsprint you. Lochte, for me you're in the top 3 swimmers ever lived.
Lochte is the kind of guy you would use whenever someone say to you you’re too old for x,y,z thing… you can simply say: Lochte gave it all at his 36y/o and he gave shit about comments against him and if he could why couldn’t I do that?. #ISawLochteCompeting
Time moves on Ryan you will be able to reflect on all the negative immature incidents you caused your teammates in Rio . Not because there is no Phelps there doesn’t have to be Locte .
I wish michael did not just turn his back on ryan like he wanted nothing to do with him...ok thats fine for some time, but ryan changed..he is a father now....i feel michael phelps should reach out to him..his eyes teared when they said Michael's name...ryan still cares for michael
He wants to change the sport of swimming? He wants to be a role model to children? Well then, he can start by taking his medicine by going back to Brazilian soil, surrendering himself to Brazilian authorities and serving six months in a Brazilian prison for false reporting an incident that embarrassed the Brazilian people on the world stage. Then and only then after he's finally be held accountable and responsible for his drunken actions will Ryan Lochte be able to redeem himself and maybe qualify for another Olympics. But until he does this, he's considered too much of a liability risk for the US Olympic Committee to put on an Olympic team and send to another foreign country to represent them. Even at his current age, Google never forgets. Go back to Brazil, Ryan!! Serve your time in their prison! Show your children what happens when you break the law before it's too late!! Accept the consequences and pay the price. Quit running from them.
