I'm an American who is ashamed of what Lochte and the others did. I've been to Brazil twice and appreciate very much the hospitality of the Brazilian people. In case Rio and Brazil don't get an apology from him I'd like to offer my apology. You deserve better than this. Eu sinto muito, gente boas. O Lochte e' idiota.
we really do suck at the olympics buddy, but my country isnt rich and powerful by making wars and taking advantage over miserable countries markbotplus
susansname, I agree completely. Ryan's lie's will hurt tourism in Rio and all of Brazil when they can least afford anymore bad worldwide publicity. He is a 32 year old Grown Ass Man who is rich and well traveled. I am pretty certain this is not his first time getting drunk and belligerent. Mean drunk's never change.
Just saw the security camera videos. The fact is the 4 swimmers left the party, took a cab, asked the driver to stop at a gas station to use the bathroom, and while in there, committed vandalism, breaking the gas station facilities. For that, they were asked to wait until the police got there, tried to flee the place, and ended up offering to pay for the damage. They, then, went on to the olympic village, really calm and joyful, even taking pictures upon arrival. It all escalated when smart Lochte invented that they were victims of a robbery. He probably thought that only because Rio has, indeed, cases of thefts, it would be ok to add another one to the record, and save face from his little drunken night. C'mom, shame on him! Especially since his declarations have a deeper impact as they are broadcast globally. Even worse, he said he was robbed by a guy dressed as a police officer. I am sure that if a brazilian did the same thing in the US, american authorities would do the same thing, if not more! But what I see is a lot of americans thinking they own the world, and are above everything and everyone. The swimmers were just kept from returning to the US so they could help elucidate what had happened. If they had nothing to hide, why didn't they just show up and give their statement? Why run for a plane? They should be ashamed.
They admitted it was a guard(dressed like the police maybe) who held a gun on them and made them fork over all their money. That, my little ignorant friend, is a robbery. It doesn't matter if they took a piss on the bushes that everyone in Brazil already pissed on a thousand times a day.
Embarrassed the host country? Yeah, right. There's only one country getting embarrassed right now, and I don't know what is more embarrassing, the frat boy antics of the US swimmers or these fools on the Today Show and other media grasping at straws trying to justify what the swimmers did.
Exactly, the lady is trying to get to the meat of the events, while Roker is trying to be distracting and that other fool, like you say, the other reporter sounds ok with the "frat boy antics"
Nasha J It's a good example of why most so-called journalists who work in television, at least on the national level, wouldn't make good crime investigators. They're like, "Meh...some of the details are changing, but the basic story is still the same." The details are important. For one thing, crime investigators know that it's the details that people can't keep straight when they're fabricating a story, and the reason people fabricate stories is to cover up guilt.
Which just makes Bush an extra embarrassment for us Americans everywhere. Like why are these people trying to coddle and protect a grown man? 32 years old + Olympic swimmer = needs to take responsibility for his own actions.
Ryan just tanked his image and his name brand.... You would think the oldest member of the team would have more leadership qualities and set a better example----Say goodbye to endorsements Ryan...
Al Roker has integrity. :) The media needs to stand up for the Truth. It absolutely does matter. If you do not want to report the truth, get off the TV.
Tons of Respect for AL Roker for not whitewashing the Truth about how ryan lochte LIED about everything that happened that night in Rio. Can't wait for the movie?
It's been an embarrassment for Brazil, but if it is proved not to be true, it's an embarrassment for the swimmers. Lol how about embarrassment for USA.
Why does that girl always find a way to portray Brazil as a very bad country? She said they’ve already been warned of the things that could happen there.
Ryan Lochte is 32 yr old grown man, who's an Olympian. This man is suppose to be an ambassador for the US and a role model to children and others desiring to be Olympians. He totally disrespects the host nation, saying they were at fault, when he was the culprit. He then goes on to carefully fabricate this lie which he tells his mother, the Olympic officials and the media. He then flees the country and leaves his teammates to take the brunt of his punishment!! With the ongoing economic struggle in Brazil and the Olympic officials are trying hard to maintain security at the Olympics, why would you make up a dirty story like that? Don't you have a conscience? I have NO respect for this guy. He embarrassed America, because he didn't want to own up for his wrongdoings. Is this the kind of person we want our children to look up to?? I hope not! He should be prevented from representing the US again!
Al Roker, as a brazilian I can tell you: the incident didn't embarace the host country at all...you guys should have raised the question on why Lochte fled the country without his teammates...
They don't speak their dirty language in their dirty country and a dirty "guard" pointed a gun at them and demanded money. If that's not a robbery or extortion, what would you call it?
So serious question....what happens to Ryan Lochte if charges are pressed on him in Brazil? Wouldn't it be a headache for Brazil to do that since the guy is in the USA and they would need to lean on the USA cooperation to get an American citizen expedited out of the USA?
Thomas Anderson I agree with that statement. That's why this country should be looking toward voting libertarian. We need a stronger third party in this country anyway.
This is a disgrace all around. Natalie's home country biased allowed her to form an opinion before she heard all details and Al went along with her. I do think these men we acting foolish BUT it is clear a gun was pulled on them and that is not a typical situation in most first world country. Bully was the only responsible reporter looking at all aspects. Al was not acting patriotic here and Natalie is a disgrace for using her media power against men who represent their country and have done a pretty good job of it. This is just poor journalism... Let's focus on the metals we are trying to win and not this crap. Brazil is a great country but does have a poor stigma when it comes to safety. No wonder why they blew this up looking for someone to take the fall.
I suggest you go read Gunnar Bentz's apology. He explained the whole incident, since Ryan Lochte wasn't so forthcoming. www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/us-swimmer-gunnar-bentz-apologizes-for-rio-gas-station-incident-w435434
+Mai Collins completely did and I get it. But it was blown out of context. The were even held on ransoms of 11k. Do not fall into the media's poor journalism. Most reports contradict other reports. Just plain ignorance out there.
how is a 32 years old man called a kid....I am 26 and I am considered an adult
Thank You For Al Roker! Glad to know somebody at NBC has integrity. Btw.. a 32 year old man is not a "kid".
O Lochte e' idiota.
thank you.
thanks for keeping it real, greetings from brazil
Thank you, I really appreciate that you said that. Você é gente boa!
you are amazing thanks for believe us
we really do suck at the olympics buddy, but my country isnt rich and powerful by making wars and taking advantage over miserable countries

Thank you, Al Roker, for reminding us that a lie is a lie, not an "embellishment."

How many words does it take to say that Ryan Lochte lied.
three, cant ya fucken count
3, But he's white so you have to protect his reputation.

They never destroyed the bathroom. Several media outlets filmed the actual room the following day and saw NO damage. Stop believing communists.
Embarrassed the host country? Yeah, right. There's only one country getting embarrassed right now, and I don't know what is more embarrassing, the frat boy antics of the US swimmers or these fools on the Today Show and other media grasping at straws trying to justify what the swimmers did.

Bush was caping for Lochte so hard. I'd like to hear his response now knowing Lochte completely lied.
Billy Bush is still saying Lochte's version was just an "embellishment".
Which just makes Bush an extra embarrassment for us Americans everywhere. Like why are these people trying to coddle and protect a grown man? 32 years old + Olympic swimmer = needs to take responsibility for his own actions.
Because William Bush has the frat boy mentality.
Wow, she is trying her damnedest to make excuses for Ryan. Being a white male in America is definately a privilege!
So when they try to cover up for other races is that considered a privilege? And please don't be stupid enough to ask for some examples.
+Wes Conway White Tears
+Earl Taylor just asked a simple question. No ones crying ha ha
Wow, Bush was trying to defend Lochte's lying--unbelievable.
Ryan just tanked his image and his name brand.... You would think the oldest member of the team would have more leadership qualities and set a better example----Say goodbye to endorsements Ryan...
He tanked his image with that marijuana inspired hair.
no that's crack inspired
Dave Smith So we shouldn't be condemning him because, Crack Lives Matter.
Al Roker has integrity. :)
The media needs to stand up for the Truth. It absolutely does matter. If you do not want to report the truth, get off the TV.
and this video cuts out where Al Roker calls out Ryan Lochte for lying which is extremely disappointing.
Brazilian people are so nice, welcoming, warm, friendly, and fun! That's not how Americans should pay them back.
Lochte: I'm an Olympian. (check) + I'm a tourist in a developing country. (check). + And oh, I'm white. (check). = I can get away with anything.
They are really straining to justify Ryan's lie's, interesting?
HE LIED!!! He did not:
*Embellish
*Fabricate
*Conjure
*Hallucinate
.....he F**KING LIED!!!
Do you guys plan to apologise to Brazil for saying that it was an embaracement to the country?
Nope, but Ryan did.
Kinda...
are you guys going to apologize for all of the little brazilian thieves running around stealing from tourists?
That's a moronic response to my comment...
It's like saying "Lochte has the right to lie because there are street thieves in Rio..."
He left the country and let his boys fry lmao The rat located the cheese!!! Watch they will snitch on him
IKR. Bromance fail!
Elsha Daniel
Well I'll be damned :-O wowwwwwwwww

I noticed they've made a habit of cutting off Al every time he tries to speak.
Al. thanks for calling a spade a spade- he lied.
Embarrassment for Brazil? Stop kidding yourselves!!! We are embarrassed!!!
Why does that girl always find a way to portray Brazil as a very bad country? She said they’ve already been warned of the things that could happen there.
Defending Lochte while taking another swipe at Brazil, way to go Today Show!
Ryan Lochte is 32 yr old grown man, who's an Olympian. This man is suppose to be an ambassador for the US and a role model to children and others desiring to be Olympians. I'm Al, and I've worked my life with the worse liers of all businesses.
Lochte totally made this story up. This is going to mess him up for a long time.
They don't speak their dirty language in their dirty country and a dirty "guard" pointed a gun at them and demanded money. If that's not a robbery or extortion, what would you call it?
Those reporters should've also apologized for what they're saying here.
Shame. Shame. Shame.
So serious question....what happens to Ryan Lochte if charges are pressed on him in Brazil? Wouldn't it be a headache for Brazil to do that since the guy is in the USA and they would need to lean on the USA cooperation to get an American citizen expedited out of the USA?
Trump supporters I'm sure.
Actually liars seem to share closer attributes with Hilary.
+dantheman1984 both sides are dumb
+Thomas Anderson I like you
Thomas Anderson I agree with that statement. That's why this country should be looking toward voting libertarian. We need a stronger third party in this country anyway.
Brilliant! Lmao! yet....sad.

I'm more embarrassed by the Today Show except Natalie Morales gets a pass!!!
I love all these comments! A human being lied. Shocking! A human being bailed and left his alledged friends holding the bag. Shocking!
Go Al!
SEND HIM BACK... SEND HIM BACK
They should be a good example to the people...But They weren't. Now, must a kind of this behavior let it go? Of course not!
Shame Ryan Lochte!
Shame Today Show!

Trumps video brought me here. Billy is actually annoying.

Alex Guastella They weren't held on ransom. They negotiated a deal. He could either donate to charity or face charges. They settled on charity.
+Mai Collins that was to save face of course.
