I don't get the Patron thing. sure a few bucks a month but I have at least 10 or so youtubers I really like. That adds up to a ton of money! It's not enough that youtubers make money from yt and ads in the videos? meh... greeeeeeeeeed
I support about 10 creators on Patreon, some of them because I really like the bonus content and some of them because I just want to help them out. You certainly don’t have to support me if you don’t want to, although I think there’s a lot of great stuff on there. But fosho it’s not a greedy grab for money, I work a full-time job and do this as a passion project and I often times lose money on these videos. Patreon is one way that helps me to consistently cover my costs each month. There’s a free trial if you want to check it out and see if it’s worth it to you, and I hope your climbing is going great!
I always wished that there was like a 1 dollar a month option because I could actually do that for a few creators whereas I cannot afford another monthly payment and I cannot pick just one creator to support lol
I think you might be able to just pledge a dollar. It isn’t part of a “tier” but it’s just a nice gesture. That said- I have a free tier and you can join that for some perks and don’t sweat the dollar. I’d be happy to have you as a free member 👊
I can guarantee this channel makes very little off TH-cam ad revenue. I also don't get your greed argument. Patreon is meant for donors, not as a Netflix subscription.
I don’t see it as greed but more a function of the current fragmented media landscape. I think all of us are frustrated by having to subscribe to so many different things (or downloading yet another app). I would prefer being able to pay for individual episodes a la carte, honestly (i.e., if I could click and pay $x to listen to an episode of certain podcasts, I would - but I already subscribe to enough things and am generally not willing to add another). That said, I suspect the a la carte model would also have unintended consequences that we wouldn’t like…

The best does it first. A few tips won't make you the best. It needs tons of talent and gigatons of persistence.
