Notice. If your going to do this. Unhook your battery first. You could easily fry the new headunit or blow fuses by connecting it with power going to it. Plus you aren't going to put unnecessary drain on your battery by having the key turned to "ON" during install. You can move the shifter without power by inserting the key into the slot in the small hole in the top left portion of the gear shifter area.

Thank you for putting this together! You covered everything well that truly made this upgrade doable. Ever since we bought our Subaru in 2006, the only thing we've not liked about it is not having an Aux plug. Now we have an Aux plug, USB, and Bluetooth =) The main glitch I ran into was figuring out the radio bracket itself. After some messing around, I figured out that I needed to install the factory bracket and not attach it to the A/C control since the alignment would be off. I also struggled getting the A/C to pop off the original face plate. I ended up taking off the factory bracket from the radio to free the A/C panel. Now I'm just kicking myself for waiting 10 years to do this ;o) Thank you again.

without me actually seeing it for myself i can only guess. First i would re-check the wiring making sure everything is correct (Never hurts to double check). If you had sound before and now no sound there could be something wrong with the radio unit itself.possibly even a defective harness but it seems unlikely cause there would be some sound out of some speakers.

+Ben Mathes Changing the head unit with the Automatic Climate Controls is a very tough and expensive venture. It will be at least a $400 job, not including the head unit, and it's all DIY. Here's a link if you're still interested: legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/official-dual-hvac-double-din-jdm-kit-thread-113589.html
Another option is going with an OEM integration unit such as a JL Fix-82 and CleanSweep, or a Rockford Fosgate Sixty3.3 or an Alpine PXA-H800. Would cost about the same if you purchase a $200 head unit, but the results would be FAR better.

The wires on the aftermarket harness were already pre-cut. I merely had to connect them with twisty connectors to the wire harness that came with the new radio, and then plug the other end into (which is a clip) where the stock radio used to be connected. There were a few wires that did not need to be connected and those I just taped up with electrical tape.

@@brandonparks3301 On Crutchfield I've also gotten the message not to change factory radio, but ive seen examples where people with the more fancy auto climate control somehow spliced an aftermarket head unit into the necessary wires to make it work. I really want to do this with my vehicle which I imported from Japan, and replace the useless Japanese Nav unit, but unfortunately can't find an explanation or tutorial anywhere.

If the car has automatic climate controls, not manual ones like in the video, you need to buy a $300 piece of plastic from Japan to even be able to put a radio in, then deal with a bunch of wiring to make the climate controls work again.
