Hi, Karen! The few times I’ve tried quilting, I’ve found their directions to be talking in quilting jargon that takes some head scratching to figure out. I’ve always ended up with uneven edges. My philosophy is, that’s what scissors are for! Snippy, snippy and I have even edges.🤣🤣
    Good luck! XX

Love the colour of the hoodie that you are wearing. 💙 I have never tried quilting before as I love garment sewing so much but I have made a diaper bag. That was a lot of fun. That Lyra dress and the fabric you chose will be lovely. Can't wait to see it! So sorry to hear about your eye troubles and hope you get that sorted soon. My hubby had a partially detached retina last fall. No fun for sure! Take care. 🥰

Hi Karen, My mum had her cateracts done and a few months later had the same issue. She then had laser treatment, which took minutes, just a pin prick in each eye, and her vision has been great. She had it done 3 years ago. So you can look forward to your restored vision. 😊

I think you’ve done really well for your first attempt at quilting! Looking forward to seeing how your Lyra comes along and glad you enjoyed the online class with Alison. I would’ve liked to join in but timings didn’t work out for me. Glad you were reassured about your vision and take care of yourself. ❤

Hi Karen, piecework definitely has some specialized moves!😘 The diagram does show the square on top of the rectangle piece, on the left end of it. Also you will want to be sure to read all the material that will probably explain what all the terms, construction terms, etc. mean before you start. When I come up extra on measurements, it's usually because I've done something in the wrong order Or made a triangle wrong. There should also be a key for what each of the piece shapes are called in the pattern itself. With those diagonal lines, sewing 'along the line' is going to give a different result than sewing on the line... Those look just like diagrams that I've used a lot, but those instructions before you start are important! 😘😘 I hope you get it figured out, I wish I could be of more help.... There are a couple of other you-tubers showing these kits that they've gotten, maybe search TH-cam for "mrs. quilty" and you can find some of them. Best wishes, and have a great weekend

I stick a needle threader wire in a pair of artery clamps....easy to find in my box of stuff...easy to hold .... and you can pull quite hard on thick thread without it falling apart.❤

Nice to see your smiley face Karen. Sorry to hear about the eyes, but you will get sorted. Quilting can drive you nuts, but you will do it, dont be too hard on yourself. It's quite difficult at first to get that precision right. 😊

Hi Karen I would never do quilting because of precision cutting and sewing that would drive me nuts ❤ however yours looking pretty good 👍 well done you. I really hope that the eye “surgery “ will help you back on track, I have to do it to both of my eyes ,and it helped me immediately ❤have a really lovely weekend

Hi Karen, it's normal for your backing fabric to be larger than the front panel. Once you've quilted it all together (and yes it is backing fabric right side down, wadding then pieced panel right side up) you trim through all three layers to the finished size. The binding is applied all round, folded to the wrong side and either machined down, or I always preferred hand slip stitching. Look on youtube and my garbled explanation will make sense. That fabric for the Lyra is gorgeous, will really suit you. Take care x

A small teaspoon of mustard in water or if you can bear it neat helps with cramp. Good luck with the Lyra and cant wait to see your finished dress. Take care xx

Karen the quilting looks lovely and I have got addicted now to quilting and knitting! I am still sewing but I always find the last steps of a garment I am sewing just gets done so slowly! The Simi skirt I am making just has the buttons to be done. I am basically addicted to anything crafty!!

I think your first time quilting is excellent and I would just chop the ends off😂😂😂. Anyway, experienced quilters I have watched always seem to do a lot of trimming. So glad you enjoyed it. I have tried but am not overly taken with it. I hate all the cutting out of the different size pieces. Izzy from Dizzy Quilts and Sews does great tutorials. So sorry about your eyes but thank goodness it is treatable. Good Luck with the Lyra. Happy Sewing 😊. Lynne

I suffered a detached retina and thought I would be with a guide dog not being able to sew again or see my grandchildren. It is a scary time. I had a brilliant surgeon who saved my sight.

I was reading some mrs guilty reviews, as I was thinking of subscribing, and they were saying there can be issues with the patterns and measurements, so it might not be anything you've done at all ❤
