I have owned the same Mossberg 500 for going on 35 plus years. 1000s of rounds through it. Polly chock and a slug barrow. Not one failure or prepare needed. Bought it on sale for $129.95 plus tax. No regreats

I bought mine, model 500 20 gauge with poly choke, back in 1982. I worked the tobacco fields to buy that at $50 used. I still have that, and will probably pass it on to one of my grandkids. Was deer hunting with it when I was a kid. I dropped it into a stream and had to fish it out. It was bitter cold that day so it was freezing up and getting stiff. I field stripped it, took about 5 minutes, dried everything out and put it back together... no tools. Worked until I got back to the house, dragging a deer. I love that gun so much, I bought two more with different modifications. One for self defense.

I bought my Mossy 500 18" "cruiser" in 1973. I have shot 1000's of rounds through it... trap, skeet, slugs, all of the bucks, cut shells, wax shells. I will always grab it first, just because I can cycle it fast, load it or top it off fast, and hit what I want to hit. There is just nothing like familiarity.

  • @daithi1966

Here's a tip. Go with a full sized Mossberg Field/Deer combo and then buy an 18.5" tactical barrel for $100. Now you have 3 shotguns in one. You've got a rifled barrel that will take a scope for deer, a field barrel with 3 different sized chokes for birds and clay targets, and you've got the short barrel for home defense.

I’ve had mine since 1971. My father bought two for us to bird hunt with. Later added folding stock and 18” barrel. Been extremely reliable hunting, target practice, clay pigeons and handy for home defense. Only used once for home defense and racking the action sent 4 teenagers running back out the door they had just booted in quicker than I think they had ever run before! 😳 luckily no shots were required!

I run mine with an 8-shot Mesa Tactical saddle and a Hogue 12” LOP stock. The stock is perfect. @@18B_Porta-Poty_PTSD now that I have experienced the minishells, I don't think that is true about the powder loads. The mini-shells use reduced powder and shot charge, and as a result, recoil is decreased and capacity increased in repeaters. It's partly why they don't cycle in auto-loading shotguns.
As far as what to use for proper grip of a Shockwave, I have found the push-pull method to be quite successful.

The only clear footage I've ever seen of a shotgun being used on someone was the pistol grip used in the church shootong in Texas. Morbid as it was, it fully demonstrated the lethal blast a good shotgun posseses. It's perfect for self defense. NOTHING is going to survive a direct blast to the head or torso. That's a one and done trigger squeeze.

I bought a 590 when I turned 18 in the Nineties. Ordered it with a Side Saddle and SpeedFeed stock, and was told when I picked it up that they wouldn’t have been able to sell it to me if Mossberg had shipped it with the pistol grip attached. Spent years with the M500 Mil in the Army and when I researched the differences I saw that one was that the 500 Mil and 590A1 had an aluminum trigger guard while the standard 590 had a plastic one. Figured I had an older version since my trigger guard is aluminum, then finally disassembled it for the first time in years to find a big 590A1 stamp on the receiver.
My other home defense shotguns include a Steiger coach and a police surplus Winchester 1200 Riot.
Oh, and AWB politics led to the seizure of my old pistol gripped M500 with heat shield. Looked scary, so a liberal judge upheld a concealed weapon conviction even after being found not guilty of concealing a snubnose revolver in the same location as I transported them to the range.

  • @guillermomaguire5394
    @guillermomaguire5394 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks for making some important points clear....namely, a Mossberg 500 is a 500 regardless of how it is packaged. The Mav 88, the 500, Shockwave, 590A1 are basically the same. The other thing for people to know is that only the 500, with an OPSol Flex Adapter, can effectively run minishells.
There are a couple of other solutions marketed to run minishells, but only the OPSol actually transforms a Mossberg 3" receiver into a mini-receiver.
If you don't transform the length of the receiver opening from 3" to about 1.6", you run the risk of a minishell flipping, falling out of the ejector port, etc when you(or your family) are using your shotgun under duress, and while racking the gun in positions you don't see at the range.
Minishells are not only shorter than the length of a normal receiver (3"), but they are shorter than the height of the receiver (2"), so they can quite literally rattle around in the receiver as you rack it.
Put another way, if someone decided to design a shotgun for ONLY minishells, they would make the receiver space about 1.6" long, not 3".

590A1 with Magpul hardware, light mounted so that my thumb turns it on/off, +5 Velcro’d opposite ejection port, +5 slugs Velcro’d outside side of stock, just in case. Why so much ammo, because an LEO told me, you’ll only have as much ammo as is in/on the gun when you pick it up. ( esp. at night in your underwear)

As far as Mossbergs go, I only have 1. I dont know exactly what year it was made, and im too broken right now to be able to dig it out, but its an older one. It came with the standard barrel, and the ribbed sporting barrel, as well as the club style grip if I didn't want to use the standard stock. I think I paid about $160 for it from someone at my job.

I just picked up the New Haven 600. Aka the Mossberg 600. I think it's got a 20-in barrel on it with adjustable choke. It's been around for a long minute. I just got it home I took it apart cleaned it took the choke apart cleaned that. Now it's my bedside 12 gauge.

A 1000 lumen light might be suitable for outdoors, but for home defense, 1000 lumens will blind you with the light reflected off the walls. No more than 300 lumens if you expect to need the light indoors.

Winchester 1300. Why does everyone compare "bird shot" skeet load to buckshot for defense? Nobody ever talks about a high brass #4 pheasant shell as close range low penetration option.

  • @rick467

i can agree a mosberg 500 or any Remington shotguns are great for self defense and potentially not much over penetration. shotguns are also one of the best guns for bear defense too, get a heavy 1oz + slug and stagger them with buck/bird shot, to try to scare them first, if it doesn’t work and the bear charges, dump the tube and hope for the best 😂

I got the Mossberg Maverick 88 security pump shotgun the only modifications I put on it is a light and a sling. Unless you're going on raids yourself you don't need anything more than that.
Edit: when I say you don't need anything more than that I mean in terms of shotguns obviously I have an AR-15 and I have two pistols and I have a 22LR. Get as many guns as you like

    • @acedirt2346

Should never rack a shotgun to scare someone off, if you are not ready and short stroke now you possibly have caused a jam. Second you have told the intruder that you know they are in the house and where you are at, if this intruder is not making his way out of the house now you have to face someone who is ready and who is willing to face a shotgun which would make me scared. I have always told my wife to pick darkest corner facing door point shotgun and when door is full of intruder pull trigger and repeat until it is empty.
