    Tom is a great influence. He make lessons, video reviews, guitar methods, writes articles, and
    plays the guitar like nobody else. Congrats Tom, you deserve.

    Congratulations to Tom! He really deserve this because he is not only an awesome and disciplinated guitar player, also is an awesome educator.

    I’m late commenting on this, and I just subscribed to your channel. But this was one of the most education and real talks and interviews with a music artist I’ve seen in a long while. Great job.

    Can relate to the college story. I started college with my Gibson Les Paul Gothic. Still using it as a jazz guitarist!

    This is a really great interview Levi!, Great stories too. Tom seems to be such an awesome human being as well as an outstanding player! The same goes for Martin. So stoked for both of them and so much deserved. Ibanez did a clever move with the AZ series and those two signature models/endorsers.

    If you play electric guitar and you dont know Tom Quayle, that says alot about you. Tom's approach to legato phrasing turned everything upside down. For decades we had been sold, 'alternate pick everything' and then Tom demonstrates a side to legato that blew everyone away.

    Wow Levi this was pure gold! So much insightful information! Ibanez is now the biggest name in the fusion scene, welp they always have been the guitar for the versatile working musician. Can we get a chat with another guitar player from ibanez? Rick Graham perhaps or maybee Kiko?

    Excellent interview. It's inspiring to see someone with a speciality like what Tom has, being able to keep the passion, the creativity and the art intact, but also apply keen business principles to it so he can use his nitch speciality to make a living. Anyone who would hate on any artist or professional for making a living at this is either jealous or bitter. Also, I love that he doesn't sell the idea that anyone can be like him and do what he does and make a living at it. That is unrealistic and fallacious at best. But, as a fan, I can absolutely enjoy his contribution to the music and instrument I love. I also want to sell my guitars and go fishing everytime I hear him play :)

    I have all the honour for Tom. Met him live, bought his videos, learnt a lot from him. I keep following him, even had personal messages with him....but.......I can be hated for this, but this is all about size of a company, sales and money decision rather than making a switch for playability. Fibenare is about real custom boutique quality for someone who wants a guitar for life. Ibanez is way bigger than any other companies. Ibanez has all range of guitars with prices that fits any budget. Tom will make a way bigger income and a better life quality with Ibanez than Fibenare. I would have done the same as he did. Money talks. It's also a very clever movement from the Ibanez marketing team to get Tom on their side now. This guy is lovely and plays like a beast! Although if money was not a question I'm sure the Fibenare quality beats Ibanez any time. But again I think they've done an amazing job with this Ibanez. Something new, great quality loaded with quality stuff with extremely comfortable craftsmanship. I'm very happy for Tom and he made a good decision.

      turn back the clock 20 years to when you were a wee boy - did you dream about having a signature ibanez like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert etc... or did you dream about getting a few nice guitars from a company you'd never heard of.
      The business side won't have hurt the decision, but ultimately this comes down to that dream. I'd have taken it even if there was no money on the table... because a signature guitar from a company you idolized for decades is even less common than a lottery win - virtually noone will ever get to live that dream.

    In my opinion, Tom and Martin are two of the best players on the planet right now and im so glad Ibanez recognized this, now to start saving money so that in a year or so i can buy one of their models. That is a very difficult decision, im normally a 24 fret HH guy but damn that tone on Toms guitar is sweeet!

    Great interview and a brilliant chat on the state of the industry. Moreover, that Ibanez looks like SUCH a lovely guitar! I really love the understated look and the specs in general are right up my alley. BTW, does anyone know whether the Hyperion single coils are hum cancelling? Either way: thanks for another excellent video Levi - keep up the good work!

      Unchainedmaple888 i totally agree dude- even tho its only 22 frets, the AZ range is an answered.prayer...
      roasted maple neck, ss frets, with multiple tonal options.

      @JedNadin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      THORGGERNAUT stoked there’s a high quality 24 fret ibanez with a rounder fret board and slightly narrower neck.

    • @thorggernaut3081
      @thorggernaut3081 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jed Nadin me too bro! im really excited coz my main musical styles are prog metal (dream theater, the "OLD"metallica) and the blues (stevie ray, bb king etc) since I cant afford to buy two guitars an ibanez j custom (for shred metal) and a custom shop strat (for the blues) I genuinely believe that the AZ SERIES will get me within "a stones throw away" from both worlds. a standing ovation for IBANEZ......

    Tom, Martin, Andy James, Alex....glad to see these fellas doing so well. Love his Waghorn but would love to see Alex with an Ernie Ball Super Sport sig. And Tom, pay no mind to the imbeciles that believe you have to be on stage in a bowling shirt every weekend to be considered a "real guitarist."

    Has anyone picked this guitar up and tried it? None in my area but real keen to try one. I'm very picky on neck profile and was about to pull the trigger on a Music Man Cutlass HSS, which has a very similar spec sheet. Love the MM necks; wondered if they're similar?

    I must say I do like Tom's style and technique. Inspiring creativity and versatility. But frankly, why a signature guitar for a musician that hasn't edited a single CD.... It took Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore and others quite a few years and a whole lot of musical success to have their signature guitars. Now it seems just a few licks and some TH-cam followers are more than enough.

    • @LeviClay
      @LeviClay  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      well, first up Tom does have an album out.
      Second (if you'd watched the video you'd know) that the business has changed. Signature gear isn't a reward you get when you achieve xxx... it's a business relationship with mutual benefits for both parties. Tom probably racks up 1000000 views a month across all his output, and that's not a million passive views of people enjoying music like with Blackmore... that's a million guitar players actually staring at the instrument he's holding. Now, who would you rather was playing your guitar? A guy in a band who might play in front of 100000 (who don't really care about your gear) in a YEAR, or the guy getting 10 times that and all of them being your actual demographic... people who buy guitars and trust the guy they're watching to inform their decisions.
      You know, half of the phrase "music business" is "business"...

    • @rodrigofalcao8858
      @rodrigofalcao8858 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I must agree with you that this is music business and its rules have changed over the years. But once more, and unfortunately, quantity seems to overcame quality: it is more important how many likes/followers you have on YT FB, etc, than being capable of compose and play music that will move listeners souls. And if we keep in mind theexisting decline of the electric guitar (expressed by the declining sales) we may assume that guitar legends is something of the past, traded for some edutainers and brand PR. Which I find rather sad.
      And thank you Levi for the info on Tom's album.

    • @LeviClay
      @LeviClay  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rodrigo Falcão again, quantity was ALWAYS more important than quality. Just look at the history books of signature models. Courtney Love? Kiefer Sutherland? Avril lavigne? Simon Neil? Noodles? All PR. It’s always been the way it is.
      If it makes sense for business, then it happens. It’s not a position you qualify for with the right list of achievements. It never has been.

    22 frets > 24 frets. Gotta get a pickup under that 4th harmonic node where the 24th fret would be. Need two octaves? Bend up son.

    • @LeviClay
      @LeviClay  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      that's a fallacy. It works when you play an open string... but the moment you fret a note? That node has moved ;)
