One of the best videos of a 4 holer because of the superb audio! Just think...this is one of the hush kitted birds. I believe it was modified by Comtran back in the day. The ones with the original unmodified fan shrouds are even louder. I think only Saha air is still flying those.

Yes I remember the days back in the 60s when the whole area around LHR resonated to the sound of turbojets whining away, taxi-ing or waiting to take off. All different now!

Thanks so much for posting this .. I was just thinking about the 707 and my flights end of the 60's to the USA from Ireland... I saw a 707 in Boston about 12 years ago used as a cargo plane and was delighted and thrilled to watch it take off, the sound is like no other .. this is my favourite plane ever. Thanks so much again for posting

I served as an airborne comm systems operator on IAF 707s in Israel (and also on King Air B200s). Unfortunately, 4 years after the end of my enlisted service the airbase (No 27) was closed and the squadron was transferred to the south. I liked those planes, they were so good and performed so smooth on high altitudes (FL400). Also, most of them were retrofitted with advanced avionics and guidance systems by Israeli Aerospace Industries.

With smoke like that thousands of times daily for most of the 1960s and 70s it would be a miracle if we didn't have global warming. Beauty has its price, and that is one beautiful plane.

@Contre Viole 32 "How do you explain that?" Well there was no market for big planes back then. And probably the flight attendants weren't sexy enough.
I got to fly on the 707 about 15 times, including the last scheduled one in the continental US in 1983. Amazing how little fanfare there was back then compared to the last 727 flight. The age of the internet and iPhone has made every specialized event a major production! How about you?

+Jordon97 Well I'm over 50 and remember. This will always be my favorite jet. I remember the last time I got to fly on one. It was on American Airlines flying out of Dallas to California back in 1978 (about your age at the time). I remember walking down the ramp and got a look at the wing and knew... yes a 707.. It had been many years since I ever flew one at that point. Mostly DC-9's in those days. They were really phasing them out about that time. Unlike the airbuses and 787's of today, these planes were very comfortable. There was more leg room. The chairs were very comfy. The isles were wider. It was still a big plane even for today's standard. I think they could hold about 180 passengers. But what was the real treat was those ram engines. Taking off you felt like you were going to the moon. But at altitude it was a quiet and smooth jet. Also the most balanced looking jet. A perfect figure with her 4 engines. The only new jet that holds a candle to this is the new 747-800. I'll say it was just as fun to fly in the 707 as it was to see one take off. This was a loud plane that belched out allot of smoke. Ram engines burn allot of fuel and is why they got rid of them.. Actually, the FAA banned them for commercial flight decades ago for excessive sound. Only plane louder then this is a b 52 bomber with 8 ram engines. If you think the 707 is loud the B-52 felt like the windows would break in the house. They used to fly over my house in Riverside Ca back in the 60's 70's in formation from March Airforce base. You literally could not hold a conversation INSIDE the house when those bombers flew over. Not even screaming either. It was that loud.. Can you imagine 8 B-52's flying in pairs one after another... Usually space out a bit in 4 pairs.. So each pair would be 16 ram engines.. And these engines were shortly after take off so they had the pedal to the metal. It was earthquake time for a solid 10 minutes . God I miss those days.. but not the war (viet nam)

Beautiful jet, the " old smokey"Boeing (made in America) 707. Had the joy of boarding dozens of them all over the world in the early 60s through the late 70s. Miss this jet and the exquisite inflight service in those early commercial jet travel years, caviar, champagne, hot towels, jackets, ties, white gloves, hats, Pan Am, TWA, AA, BOAC. Today's generation will never experience that!

I love the exhaust and noise coming out of these and the 727s. FedEx used to bring in 727s on a regular basis at Albany Intl, but since a couple years ago, retired it and started using 757s. Those are nice too, but the way they shake my house are just not the same. At least FedEx has decided to keep one retired 727 at that airport for display and training purposes, so I will always have a chance to see it... Just not in the air. Oh the memories!

I was all of maybe 6 or 7 years old.... My Father would take me to Miami International Airport to watch the planes take off and land...Not at the terminal but instead parked in the grass along side of what we called "Loop Road near the end of the runway.....I'm sure that road is long gone and with the way of the World nowadays....you'd get thrown out of there and charged as a security threat.....
My dad would take me by the hand and walk with me down to the fence line and would point out the different aircraft coming and going...along with teaching me all the proper nomenclature....There were still quite a few old prop driven Airliners...most of them relegated to hauling air freight to South America....And then the most profound thing happened...In the dist

Please reference prior comments...I erroneously sent before completion....
In the distance a plane was spooling up for takeoff and began making its way towards us.. ....there are few words to describe the experience...This perfect symphony of sight...SOUND...Power.....Elegance...Speed all right there happening before a Child's eyes...At that moment my Daddy grasped my hand and squeezed very hard and said: "Son.....that's a real Jet Aero Plane.....that's a 707"!!!! and I watched as it thundered out of sight......
Funny...many years passed by and I found myself in Ramstein Germany...waiting to catch a C-17 that was destined for Afghanistan....It was early on and although I had already done a few deployments overseas....I was taking a Platoon of very young Soldiers (only a few had their Baptism of Fire...the majority of the kids hadn't even ever left their States let alone their Country....Everything was brand new and exciting....So we get to Germany....and get layed over and wait for the final bird to show up and take us on our way....In the Army's never changing wisdom...they put a whole Battalion of Paratroopers in one huge Hanger...adjacent to the flight line...I couldn't rest with all the commotion goin on so I just hung out by the huge open hanger doors and smoked and watched the planes...Finally all those kids quieted down and were fast asleep...Well...I hear that unmistakable orchestra of jet fuel...aluminum...and shear force heading down the runway....It's crescendo building as it lifted towards the heavens....the reverberating was of a decibel I had rarely experienced prior...It was Glorious....I had a young kid who was assigned as our Platoon RTO...very nice kid....all of 18 years old...He got rattled out of his cot and he comes up to me and says: "What the heck was that Sergeant?!..".......And I answered. SON.....that's a 707 Jet Airliner!!!!.....It seemed but for a brief moment...I could feel my Father taking Me by the hand.....
