Can we have a video like this for all the weapons? its such a nice video it made me REALLY excited for the next generation of MH the depth on each weapon will grow even more and im so hyped for it!
I'd love to see one on hunting horn, it's my favourite fictional weapon of all time probably, I love it's history and constant betterment through out the games! (Besides rise,,, just a bit..)
My heart aches for this game every time. So much nostalgia, so many memories, so many feelings and emotions as I'm thinking of the countless hours I've played and will continue playing as long as this franchise exists. Thank you for the amazing videos and I hope you get to keep making them for years to come
I’m excited to see what is next for longsword in the next MH game. I’m very curious to see what they will take from MHR and what they will leave behind for LS and all other weapons
The Brave counter is still goated imo. If they just let you do the upwards thrust after instead of the dividing one, it would naturally flow, and not be as broken. The sunbreak ls is pretty close as well, but not quite there. Really hope they bring back styles or smth similar for a collab game like gen again, being able to play in so many ways is still unmatched in the mh franchised
my two favorite longswords are actually from the first MH I ever played, Tri, dark claw "demise" and rising soul, those two will forever be remembered by me, and to mention some from GU/World/Rise era I really like Reverent Elusarca for the sheathe design with the ice crystals, Royal Captain Rapier, Stahlfakt self explanatory its just so cool, Fissureforce just because I thought the design was clean, and lastly Moonbrand Lua Cheia just because lunagaron is my favorite new monster, LS has some of the coolest overall designs and I hope with MH6 they don't make the same mistake in world where its just bone/iron
Great video as always! I'd pick Devil Slicer, but there are other cool LS like Megrez's Asterism and Thunderlord Raikiri. I've played since 2nd gen and personally my favorite would be generations LS. Not because it had Brave/Valor style, but because for the first time they introduced "active skills" (= hunter arts). I remember being skeptical about adding all these styles and arts at first, but eventually fell in love with the diversity they provided. Rise did a good job merging the style/arts from gen and new moves from World, but I think they might have gone a little too far. It's not just LS though. What I felt during Rise was this excessive spamming of silkbind attacks. It almost felt like using basic moves/attacks were just fillers between certain moves and silkbind attacks. So for the next installment I hope they find the golden balance between basic moves and special attacks. EDIT: Also, I hope they don't make the game anymore complex. I remember using multiple weapons in the older games where things were fairly simple. But now (in Rise and Sunbreak) we have all these moves and special attacks stacked on every weapon that it became quite overwhelming and daunting to try learning multiple weapons.
I really wish they went in the dodge attack direction of the triangle + circle instead of parry but there is no hope for that anymore. Now I wish they make a new weapon to fill that role. There really isn't anything like that in monster hunter anymore.
Peppo I wish you’d be my daddy ❤ But to be serious, you’re knocking it out of the park with your videos. It’s great to see how much more confident you got speaking English. Thank you daddy Senpai Peppo, keep trashing on those poor Mosnters 😢
Generations was my first game in the series and striker LS was my favorite way to play even in GU, though I really love Brave style LS too, but I feel like Rise LS should've just been a different weapon instead, even though its a lot of fun. I've since played MHFU and that game has my favorite LS gameplay.
Favourite longsword has to be the Gore Magala longsword for me. Something about the purple just hits different. Thank you for the videos! I became a longsword main because of your content.
Still remember playing LS in 2nd gen. Trying to figure out all the positioning to make fading slash/dodge works was quite something. Remember slashing a rathalos tail mid tail sweep and feeling like a boss
I have to go with my favorite monster glavenus and its LS, bias included as it was my 1st mh game. Ty for the history lesson Peppo, I've been watching since world.
And for the mobile game "Monster Hunter Now", Long Sword uses something close to the original Spirit Gauge mechanic with many of the additional attacks gained over the generations - the Spirit Blade, Spirit Roundslash, the Fade Slash (albeit only backwards), the Spirit Iai Slash and the Helmbreaker all made it into the game. You also can't go straight into the Spirit Blade moves - you can only do them out of a Fade Slash or after the first three hits in the combo - since you can only perform tap, hold and slide actions using the touch screen.
MH1 didn’t even have dual blades initially they were added in the western release. In a way early Longsword acts a lot closer to switch axe since you didn’t need to worry about color buffs.
The long sword has had a nice evolution, a very, very nice evolution over the generations (even if I admit that I only knew the mh game from World). on the other hand, since Rise and Sunbreak, it has gone to a whole new level... if I dare say... cheating. attention ! the filopter was a good invention, beautiful mechanism, simple and effective... a little too much in fact because combined with the weapons including the long sword, received a boost but then from a monster, the qurios system which showed the end of his nose has further boosted the weapon and I hope that in World 2, they will change that .
For favorite playstyle deff iceborne longsword is my fav, and for weapon designs it's gotta be the zinogre and stygian zinogre longswords. some of the coolest effects i've ever seen are on those swords. i'm a real sucker for lightning infused blades too lol
my fav is mhp3rd one (or 3rd gen, if you will), its simple, positioning and evasion is still the key, I would say 4u but the red gauge running out back to base gauge was horrendous, which led me to use ig and cb instead. Also one point that you missed (or I missed it in the video), gen longsword has 4u moveset including the omega awesome spirit jumping slash from fade slash, but also has the gauge mechanic of mhp3rd ls, which means if your red gauge runs out, you only back to yellow, not to the base, colorless gauge, which would make gen longsword the best of both world for me, but it also has adept and valor, so you know how the story went. Mh3rd one still my fav, just because of the simplicity
I prefer old-school LS, so yeah, less counter would be my dream for MH6. Also, I'd like the Spirit Combo to regain that central role that completely loses in Rise/Sunbreak.
I've been playing since freedom on the psp and I gotta say longsword has pretty much become what I imagined it to be as an elementary school kid, it's been my favorite weapon since unite
You are the dude who teached me how the fk its possible to aggressively counter attack those multi wing hit combos of speedy sword wing blood sucking bug attracting boi. You are amazing. Keep it up!
My favorite iterations have to be World/Iceborne, and MH4U. I couldn't gel with the major counter focus of Rise/Sunbreak LS. It just didn't feel very fun outside of using it once in a blue moon for 10 minutes. As for favorite LS itself, maybe Stygian Gula, Lightbreak Edge, or Radiant Flow(I'm a sucker for that minimalist design)
What's the build of the Portable 3rd section? It looks like Silver solhelm Storm Cloak Silver Sol arms silver Solbracers silver solfaulds Storm pants. The barbarian blade had whiter sharpness. Red and Blue scroll caught my attention 13:15 basic Rise yes player have two different choice on three moves and Sunbreak DLC gave one extra also access to both scroll. Just small reminding.
All the weapons will continue to change and gain more moves and more depth, this makes them more fun and satisfying maybe a simple move that is very impactful like the great sword tackle, or a flashy move like the helmbreaker this refinement, this honing, this innovation is what got MH to where it is right now, and its incredibly naïve to be scared of change you have to embrace that and accept it and you will enjoy not only MH more but everything in life will become more enjoyable
World was my first mh but after playing rise i dont think i could do back. Ls feels so much more smooth. Also the switchskills, scrolls and general wirebug mobility way more than make up for the lack of detail in the environment/ wildlife. I just hope the next mh is just as fun if not more than rise
It feels like in Rise/Sunbreak, they really gave LS as many different styles as they could to test things out, kinda feels like the MH isnt sure what role they want LS to be filling, like if the want it to be counter or combo into finisher
Im a MH player thanks to world,so this video is gold for me! Good job peppo Also, im not sure what happened at 14:40 🤔 Look like you tanked the scorned magna beam, and I dont know how you did that I might learn something here 😅
Man the Azure Rathalos armor from the 4U clip... I miss 3rd gen Rathalos armor designs so much. Hope gen 6 brings them back instead of giving us gen 1 designs again.
Peppo, which version do you recommend to a noob like me to start with LS? P3rd 3U or 4U?? I only have those options on PC (also have GU World and RiseBreak)
I love rise's moveset, i feel like it gives you so much to choose with and build into. The previous generations seems good aswell, but you can see that it was building up to this. As much as rise is mid sometimes, i have the moves.
3rd gen Longsword Best longsword (specifically portable 3rd/3U). I hope that MH6 moves longsword away from the counter play style IMO world did the counters best by punishing you for failing them by dropping a gauge level.
Valor was probably the most fun this weapon ever was. It didnt overshadow its moveset with new flashy special moves. Its benefits coexisted with the rest if the moveset. World’s moveset would be up there too but requiring 2 tenderize attempts to sctuslly tenderize ruined it for me
Man I actually went to portable 3rd from Freedom Unite without the tutorials on weapons, so I didn't know that a new attack was added so I never used the 4th attack. Even in world it took until I beat Xenojiva and started watching yt vids until I found out about the bar system, foresight slash, and helmbreaker lol
03:57 Longsword have more than 5 attacks if you play with some of it's combos. There is one special normal attack and one special for the spirit combo attack. If we have to be precise there are 5 non- spirit moves and 4 spirit spirit moves that you can perform if you know all of it's combos. And who knows maybe there are even more. I don't think I have tried everything. Oh and about the "special" 4th spirit attack, It helps you skip spirit attack 2 and go directly (from spirit attack 1) on spirit attack 3, helping you contain spirit level at the same time. It doesn't waste spirit level so I guess it's not technically a "spirit attack"
I'm not sure what you are talking about, but Freedom Unite is literally the Monster Hunter I know the best, specifically the Long Sword. Now, let me specify a little bit more here what does "only 5 attacks" mean. I wanted to keep it short in the video, otherwise every single game would have been 5+ mins each and this video would have been insanely long. Also there are lots of hidden mechanics that change from game to game and I didn't put them in this video, again, for time reason. 1) The draw slash, which is the attack you do with triangle, can either be done with your weapon sheathed, with your weapon unsheathed or a second time after the draw slash. In this last case, the MV changes to 28 instead of 33, but the animation of the attack is the same so I considered these 2 attacks as a single one. 2) Then we have the stab or poke, which can be done after a draw slash or a Spirit Blade I. It doesn't change anything, it has the same animation and same MV. 3) The Upward Slice (what we call nowadays the Rising Slash) can be done after a poke or a Spirit Blade II. Again, it doesn't change anything, it has the same animation and same MV. 4) Fade Slash, only backward, can be done after every attack. 5) Spirit Blade combo. Yes, this includes Spirit Blade I, II and III so it's like 3 in 1. Spirit Blade I can either be performed with the LS sheathed or unsheathed, it doesn't change anything. Spirit Blade III has 3 hits but the attack is just one.
My favorite version is prolly Valor as it's strong but doesn't feel like a braindead way to play the weapon, we have Aerial Pellet LBG and Adept Hammer for that
I'll do it for you. 1st gen: it pokes 2nd gen: it pokes 3rd gen: it pokes, now with a counter and a slap. 4th gen: it pokes, now with new anime moves. 5th gen: it pokes, but counter ×2
I played frontier not long ago, it was one of the best LS iteration with valor style from Generation to me. The base moveset is quite similar to old games, you don’t have access to the spirit finisher. However fade slash is replaced by a fast rising swing that has s and can be used to reset your spirit combo (and basically everything). Also the ability to run adds a great repositioning game to LS, especially to land counters it has access to. You can block attack and have access to two different actions after a successful parry : a long and very strong advancing thrust that deals multi hit (great with elemental LS) or a blink that makes you move in a chosen direction crossing monsters and delivering a slash (may have s as well). Lastly, hitting and blocking will increase a second gauge that once full can be spent to a sort of finishing anime style move.
mh frontier have styles too but the most know style "frontier" is another thing, parry, counter, special cuts and you can sprint using the weapon, that kind of style surpass valor and bushido but more like the true concept of those 2, i played mh online too but was like generations, fluid with hunting arts very similar almost no differences
Long Sword was ruined for me when Iceborne came out. Since then, I just do not like using it anymore and Rise made it more detestable for me to use personally. In some way with what they added and changed it just didn't feel fun anymore and unintuitive. Throughout the Gen 2 to 4 games LS was my 3rd main weapon and when I revisit one those games I'll use it every now then. But I don't touch in WI or in Rise at all
Wow, Im surprised I didn't know that Spirit Gauge got nerfed in Sunbreak, honestly not super surprising lol, tho I am somewhat surprised that all three levels got nerfed instead of just red gauge (guess they wanted to make it all multiples of 4 lmfaoooo)
The first few games really forced you to "git gud" not only on your positioning but also in preparation for hunts. Back then, a usual 10-ish minute hunt can last a whole 30 or so if you're going in unprepared and guns blazing. I love that aspect of this game, it makes you play methodically.
Hi im new to MH i used to be a god eater player so can someone tell me, do they add new move sets every instalment of the game? Like in world the claw and some new moves and now in sunbreak it has switch skill do you guys think they will new stuff to the Wilds?😊
They expand/change the moveset of the weapons with almost every new game. As Wilds is going to be the first game of the 6th generation, it will deffinetly add a new gimmick and also new moves for the weapons.
It is hard to beat MHR longsword fluidity, but I think that MHW's feels more impactful. For the next MH i wish it is more like in World but without the clutchclaw (I hate the tenderizer meta)
Best LS for me is iceborne's. Good feel and very powerful. Also alot of fun manipulating the spirit helm breaker momentum for crazy hits. Mhgu's bushido LS was alot of fun, but always felt gimmicky to me (much like gen in general) 4u's LS was felt oddly weak but had a good moveset. 3rd gen was great for the time 2nd gen was the age of GS for me. Sunbreak's LS just didn't feel right. Very spammy or frusturating. Depending on the style.
I like the aesthetics of LS, but not that it invited toxic players that don't go for the tail and rely on broken mechanics and not on learning monster movements.
Can we have a video like this for all the weapons? its such a nice video
it made me REALLY excited for the next generation of MH the depth on each weapon will grow even more and im so hyped for it!

I cheered out loud when I realized the True Devil Slicer was in Rise. That weapon got me through some hard times in Freedom Unite back in the day.
I had a similar reaction, but I was a bit disappointed they didn't bring back the same design tho. Unite's was cooler.

My favorite Longsword? It’s a hard one. Ima go with Chaos/loi long sword.

Valor was probably the most fun this weapon ever was. It didnt overshadow its moveset with new flashy special moves. Its benefits coexisted with the rest if the moveset.
World’s moveset would be up there too but requiring 2 tenderize attempts to sctuslly tenderize ruined it for me
i love Namielle Long sword with RGB and deep cooler
For me Freedom Unite and Sunbreak have the most fun to play Longsword.
Wow, there's quite a difference though! xD
Ahahah that’s funny
everytime longsword gets a new move, its gauge buff gets a nerf....coincidence? I THINK NOT
The second Long Sword dropped on Monster Hunter Freedom 2, I never dropped it 😅. Killed Crimson Fatalis with Black Katana Mk.III
@@PeppoLS peppo is perfect
Ahhh yes the time where longs Word where great swords in mh freedom on psp
My favorite version is prolly Valor as it's strong but doesn't feel like a braindead way to play the weapon, we have Aerial Pellet LBG and Adept Hammer for that
Now give me the Lance history.
I'll do it for you.
1st gen: it pokes
2nd gen: it pokes
3rd gen: it pokes, now with a counter and a slap.
4th gen: it pokes, now with new anime moves.
5th gen: it pokes, but counter ×2
Me and my friends call it the WEEB STICK 💀
I think Weeb Stick is so popular that in the next MH LS is probably gonna get renamed to that lol
would have loved to see how it was in MH Online & Frontier :(
I included only the main series because I never played MH Online & Frontier, so I don't know much about that...
See ya on MH 6 :D
I was playing Mh Rise a year ago my main weapon was Long Sword, I spend 40 hr of game and I didn't know Long Sword can do anime slash 😂.
My favorite longsword is Hammer.
It is hard to beat MHR longsword fluidity, but I think that MHW's feels more impactful. For the next MH i wish it is more like in World but without the clutchclaw (I hate the tenderizer meta)
ありがとうございます!
Ochaikovskyさん、いつもありがとうございます!❤
Best LS for me is iceborne's. Good feel and very powerful.
Also alot of fun manipulating the spirit helm breaker momentum for crazy hits. Mhgu's bushido LS was alot of fun, but always felt gimmicky to me (much like gen in general)
4u's LS was felt oddly weak but had a good moveset.
3rd gen was great for the time
2nd gen was the age of GS for me.
Sunbreak's LS just didn't feel right. Very spammy or frusturating. Depending on the style.
I like the aesthetics of LS, but not that it invited toxic players that don't go for the tail and rely on broken mechanics and not on learning monster movements.
Wheres the mh frontier z longsword style? I need more information
