Dazai one of the few characters that got complete 180° type of characteristics done right. Hes manipulative, goofy, edgy(past), friendly etc. Most of the popular series(many of which i like) got one dimensional characters mostly but BSD is something else
I’d recommend reading the light novels, “the day I picked up Dazai” shows more into Oda and Dazai’s relationship, for more insight on Chuuyas and Dazais relationship you should read “Stormbringer” theirs also beast which is an alternate universe but helps understand what Oda means to Dazai and how aus work
I may be late to comment but fun fact about the writer Dazai Osamu. He had three daughters, one being about one years old at the time, before committing unalive with Tomie Yamazaki. Later after this event, his one year old daughter, taking up the pen name of Yuko Tsushima(that's her real last name by the way), writing a story based around what happened after he unalived himself and how her family was left to struggle.
