One method to laminate that bypasses much of the long learning curve of laminating.

- This is catalyzed polyester resin 8 oz with 10cc of mekp catalyst at 80°F so a pretty fast set and you can see that there is more than enough time to get it all done
Man, you make everything looks so easy! The shaping as well, amazing!! Thanks for sharing
Thanks - excellent video
This just de mystified laminating for me. Great method thanks
I am stoked to hear that
@@kazumasurfboards This made complete sense to me. I worked factory hot coating for a bit and that's what made this click for me. Funny I found this because I have been planning on doing my own completes. The laminating and the fin boxes are what has held me up. Thanks again man. Cheers
you're a bloody legend for sharing these lessons.
Thank you I'm just bummed at the sound was crappy because some of the explanations are super important
@@kazumasurfboards i could hear everything you said watching on my laptop.
@@kazumasurfboards i could hear you speaking no problems.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, it's been invaluable to me. Just finished a new board and you've certainly helped me beyond measure by breaking down the entire process and simplifying it. Many Blessings brother. Mahalo.
I am so happy to hear that
You not only produce an amazing product but you share so much knowledge! I have missed seeing you on youtube! Thank you for everything!
Thank you
Thank you very much, it helps me a lot for my first glassing job on my wooden longboard.
I apologize for the bad sound, I thought that I had my microphone on
Thank you so much for the video!!!!!!!! So much! Love to see you on TH-cam more often!
I'm glassing a board tomorrow and am definitely going to give this a shot. Thanks!
Nice technique, i might try that even something in-between just rolling up the rails , should save heaps of resin .
Nice! I’m definitely going to have to try this method next time!
this blew my mind.
Awesome... I am stoked to hear that
Love this.. might have to try a wet layup some time. Reverse my glassing stands around to be closer to the glass roll.
Can you do a video on tail/ nose thickness? Range for different types? Where it starts at 12 inches from nose and tail and what it ends at the actual nose and tail?
🤙 Thank you Matt. Next on my list.
Thank you for the countless tips, I was wondering, would you make any changes for epoxy and is there a reason you're using warp apposed to e or s glass?
Epoxy would be the same method and warp is the best cloth for my conditions here because I need the extra break resistance without the weigh that warp provides.
@@kazumasurfboards thank you again
Nice tip, I'm going to try this next time. Can you do
Yes you can set it off slow to make it all easier to finish.
Awesome tutorial! Why do you think this is not the standard method for experienced laminators? Seems like it's a method that saves a ton of resin waste.
What is your glassing room temp for this? Love seeing such well informed craftsmen working smarter not harder ✌️🤙
Average 75 degrees with high radiant heat in the mid day to afternoon
Would this work with tint cut lap?
Yes it works the same on a cut lap and is magical on a color resin tint lamination because the saturation. Is really even and won't leave the wavy discoloration that you see when you over squegee it.
@@kazumasurfboards awesome! Polyester resin no problem?
Awesome technique. Now that I'm using just epoxy I'll try it. Not enough time for me using poly hahaha
Did you try this method with epoxy on EPS yet? How did it go?
@@joeblow1942 I tried it just once coz, I didn't have time to make boards. With epoxy it's not a big deal to glass, even for a long board u'll have plenty of time. But with this method, I'm 100% sure that the shaped blank, will suck enough resin and wont delaminate.
That’s amazing! Thank you. A question, please…. Will this work just as well using EPOXY and 6 Oz cloth on EPS?
EDIT: In another comment he said it works with epoxy and really well with tint too. Don’t know about using 6 oz cloth and EPS yet though.
👌😉
If only it was that easy!
Super! I'm currently making a handful of boards after only ever having made a dozen, the last one being 30 yrs ago. 2 days ago I had to strip a lam off because it kicked before I had the rails wet out and down (I misread the uv directions by a factor of x10 haha). I did ok with my next try last night, but since one of the shapes is in EPS foam, I'm gonna have your heart attack unless I can double speed my game. Your method looks like a real viable alternative and I will try it on the other boards first (the epoxy last). However, since I'm double glassing the decks: How does this method work for 2 layers - just paint it a bit thicker initially? Thanks so much for this vid!
Usually on the deck you would put down the 1st layer and trim it 1st. Then you could paint on the resin then pull the 2nd layer on like this
You can use slow kick epoxy for eps too. Long pot life.
👌👏🤩
