    I've been fighting my drawer for over an hour. Wish I had found your video first prior to the other 50 useless videos on the same topic. Thank you for great thorough instructions!

    Thank you. The rails kept coming off the track. Following your directions to extend the track all the way out and keep the bearings in place helped a lot.

    This explained how to install a drawer properly if you're stuck. Seema like a simple job, but now I know a lot more about those finicky slides and how they work.

    Thanks for posting this video. Things may seem simple if you have done them hundreds of times but if not it can be confusing. My daughter's bathroom drawer was off track and your video helped me get it removed and re-installed. I think 269K views shows that a lot of people appreciate your video. Thank you so much!

    This helped me put my drawer back in - along with aligning it, I also had to take the metal slider out with the balls and straighten it out as it had been jammed and bent, then I put all the balls back into place. It all worked. This video helped tremendously.

    Thank you for this video...! "Re-insert drawer" much easier said than done with these slides...I think I screwed something up when re-inserting because it's not sliding smoothly but at least I know how it's supposed to work now, thank you!

    Thank you! I was really having a tough time figuring out what I was doing wrong. Your video and explanation provided all the nuances I needed to get the job done.. The inner assembly with the ball bearings kept sliding back and not staying put inside the track. But I see what you did to make them position properly and even to pull them forward after the drawer was partly engaged.

    Great video. What also helped was at 1:51 in the video, it shows the open end on the rail going into the cabinet. The desk we bought had the rails on the wrong way, so no wonder we were having problems with the install.

    I agree with the other comments that state this video has been a great help! The details provided were the missing factors in all others. However with that being said I still can not get my drawer in and hope someone can give me a pointer. I hear it click and the drawer feels right and slides...but...stops abruptly about the exact same distance as far as the silver guide which holds the ball bearings stops (about 3 inches from being fully closed) . It works perfectly EXCEPT for the fact it is approximately 3 inches from being fully closed. I have been working 4 four hour and I think there must be something simple I am overlooking. Help..anyone! Thank you so much in advance!

    • @theoverengineer
      @theoverengineer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Find the spot that stops the slide going in. Take out the drawer, look at ONE slide only as you would check it using a microscope (not a real microscope) and find what stops it. It is possibly the rim of a screw holding the slide in the cabinet gable that isn`t turned in deep enough. Don`t strip out the screw threads either, pre-drill & countersink as necessary.
      Let us know what happened.

      i have a steel filing cabinet and the lowest drawer is stuck closed. the drawer has a little tab that you slide with your thumb to open it, but that tab seems stuck. any advice?

    • @theoverengineer
      @theoverengineer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ayyayayay ... advice:no.
      Idea: tap lightly around the button and sides with a hammer to unstuck sliding latch parts
      If no success, rotate whole cabinet upside down or in some other position to unstuck latch bars. I know the contents spill everywhere at this point.
      Maybe prying open with a flatbar? (finishing carpentry tool for moulding & baseboard installation)
      Last resort: cut open sides with tin snips. Power grinder would dirty everything inside and sets papers on fire.

      My problem was that the drawer had partially come out of the rail and was not closing smoothly. I took it out, I cleaned it and put 3-1 oil on it (though it probably needed something else). to re-assemble, i learned from the video to push the steel cage all the way up to the front of the drawer; I had to push hard using a screwdriver. After that, as I slid the drawer back in, it kind of stopped about 5 inches from being completely closed, like cherylanne mentioned. I forced the drawer back in place though it met with some resistance and it now rolls back and forth and shuts all the way. It doesn't seem absolutely perfect, but pretty close.

    Is there any way you can still slide the draw back in working normally if you lost a few of the tiny bearing balls?
    Looks like I’m going to have to hunt down a whole bag of them just for a couple of lost ones

    • @theoverengineer
      @theoverengineer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it will with some fiddling. For less misery, you might want to re-distribute the balls evenly (move a few of them to fill in a gap in the line somewhat), until you find the size you need.

    What to do if ball bearings come out??

    • @theoverengineer
      @theoverengineer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do come out with some banging / forcing. Usually involves bending their retainer clip out-of-shape. So the balls go back in the round holes in it but look for deformation in the metal to keep the balls in place.
