I've always watched Bob Ross on TV growing up, and in one of his TH-cam vids, he mentioned that he learned how to use the technique from Bill Alexander. So, I found you. BOTH of them were so amazing. LOVE that Bill is a little more on the EXCITED playful side :) Also, I had two brothers named Bill and Bob (neither were painters) just a cool connection to remember them and my two favorite painters that have inspired me to become more confident in painting. Blessed by God to draw but Bill and Bob have inspired me to FIRE THAT PAINT on the canvas. THANKS A MILLION for sharing the videos.
Dear God, this was awesome! I'm laughing my soul out of my mouth, being grateful at the same time for meeting the master of my idol Bob Ross. What a lovely, lovely weirdo. Todd Markel, thank you so much for posting : )
“Bill” is fantastic. Finally there is a biography about him that records his entire life, some of which was dramatic. The forgotten artist William "Bill" Alexander... worth reading.
Bill is giving us priceless knowledge, directly and passionately from his truthful, artistic heart. Listen to everything he is telling you, because it is what makes you become an artist. If your first attempt turns out a big pile of muddy colour, that's okay! It is part of what he is saying; That the more you do it, you will find it all coming to you in your HANDS. Your hands need to learn how to do what he is explaining to you. So you will slowly, (or quicker if you are rather talented), start to achieve the things Bill is telling you. It's a process of mistakes and learning. In many of Bill's paintings, you will see him making a mistake and then fixing it without a word said. When you notice that, you are getting it.
These are great! Bill was such a good teacher and funny too! Nice to see TV from a simpler time.. brings back memories. Not sure how many there are of these but I hope you keep posting. Could watch these all day. Thanks again.
Bill or Onkel Willi as I like to call him, always paid much better attention to making his reflections line up and make sense than Bob Ross did. They both had fun painting but Onkel Willi was a bit more grounded in reality. Bis wir uns in der nächsten Welt wiedersehen Onkel Willi.
As I said earlier, I am SO OVERJOYED you have put these old shows up on TH-cam. When I was farming with my btother up in Wisconsin, we NEVER missed an episode. God Bless.
I always enjoyed Bob Alexander! He was not only an amazing artist, but very enthusiastic and such a great teacher of every technique he utilized on the show. So many things and phrases such as the Mighty Fan Brush, really added to the enthusiasm. When he was succeeded by some guy with a big afro (BR), I could just not enjoy his successor's show nearly as much. I found the successor very boring and even somewhat monotone, even if he clearly showed that he was trained by Bob Alexander. I will always look at Bob Alexander is the ideal painting teacher and artist in his own right. RIP Bob Alexander, you exceeded your mother's expectations tenfold.
I can´t believe what I was seeing - hope he finds his peace with Bob Ross in heaven - and paint together - and send it to us!!!! But Bill is out of this world!
bob had a "schtik" and was unoriginal? ROFL....first of all no doubt bill is the better painter, but bob wasn't doing a schtik..bob's show wasn't really about painting, what made bob popular was his calm and gentle personality, it wasn't an act, bob had the most watched painting show in the history of television and it wasn't because of painting, he helped people relax, watching and listening to bob was like taking tranquilizers, thats why people love bob ross, not because of painting...bill was a master painer but he was loud, intense, agressive totally the oppositve of bob, two entirely different things going on...bob's mission wasn't to teach painting, it was to help people relax...bob was original, nobody on televison has ever been like bob ross...not anyone.
First time seeing Bill Alexander paint! His show is a little less relaxing than Bob's, but the skills are very clear. Watching how the brush bristles move and bend is very important. Lovely!
I watched him everyday after school I used to rush home school got out at 2:12 p.m. and I always rushed home to be home by 2:30.. magic of oil painting was on channel 2 PBS and I watched him for years. I love listening to his voice it's very soothing and I learned a great deal about techniques of painting from him it's hard to believe that I've been watching him now for 35 years. One of my greatest regrets in life : not meeting him in person..😔
Todd, thank you so much for posting his videos. I grew up watching Bob Ross and discovered Bill from a Bob Ross video and Wow!! He just blew me away. What an energetic fellow. A true master.
I watched Bill as a kid and that's how I got my start!! Not so much his style, but his way of approaching the mindset of painting! Thanks for sharing these memories!!
Very good ideas for making decisions about different types of drawing and especially job training in order painting very different colors Thanks you for the opportunity
@@JohnRBIV I think it's a Thomas organ. You know the kind elderly guys would demonstrate in front of furniture stores at the mall. Left hand would give you a root bass note, and automatically play the 5th(below it for a simple 1-5 bass line) That's not what is happening in the Alexander jingle, I'm just saying, it's one of those "we'll take care of the 1-5 bassline elderly, just play the melody and you'll sound just like Lawrence Welk" organs. LOL!!!!
Also, with the built in eggbeater, baby rattle, early attempt at a rhythm box things. It's funny now, but without those old terrible sounding eggbeaters, there might not have been the 70s Lynn Drum, or the 80s HR16, that's the one most sampled now, and my favorite. Anyway, I dont think it's a moog. I still have 3 of them, btw. They're in my basement waiting for that magic day that they will make my old age include young girls, and blue green tropical water. Not for sale yet. Ok, back to old Billy boy uber alles. Sorry, no umlot. How do you spell umlot anyway?

It’s a nice book but not totally accurate .

He is still here thanks to caring people on TH-cam.

Oh I am so excited about this video! I am going to start using black or gray grounds or foundations. Thank you Bill.
I had conflated William Alexander with Bob Ross for years.... I was shocked to realize they were two different people...
Thanks so much for sharing these videos, Todd! Bill was sorely underrepresented online. I've always loved his presentations.

What a great moment to enjoy your unforgettable artistic spirit
I think he explains the technique more than ross,a better teacher
bruh how can you compare a mere painter to a legend
@@john1242 how can you call a legend a mere painter
Both are legends. But I have to agree, Bill went into more detail at times. I have leaned so much from both men, so they will always be legends to me!
