    13 year natural here. Big chopped 7 years ago and now my hair is at bra-strap length. I’m here because I can’t take it anymore. I’ve worked from home for years & always kept my lil plaits. Now I’m outside everyday & have no idea what to do with my hair in this heat. I don’t want braids, too humid for a twist out, silk press, or wash n go, and I’m trying to avoid buns to avoid tension. Going back to a relaxer is starting to feel like the only option.

    Length retention is actually easier with relaxed hair. Its easier to obtain waist length hair. Thats why its so tempting.

    What you said at the beginning of this video is so key. Finding a haircare routine and staying to it is key. I don't use any heat on my hair ever. My hair is always protected. I am blessed to work from home, so most of the time my hair is under my silk bonnet. When I go out I put my hair in a protected bun, then cover my bun with a stocking cap/wig cap. Then cover my bun with a cute drawstring ponytail. That is my only hair style and I love it.

    Your hair is amazing, My hair was just to fragile for reaxlers, no matter how much I weakened the relaxer I'd get split ends and breakage, Coconut oil dried my hair out to much protein, Its on my channel, I've got locs 3 years now. It does grow slower then average but I'm seeing retention, Great tips!

    Also genetics, i have saw some people try it all, and little to know results. Consistency is key i agree. Rather relaxed or natural its a process. What products work for one want work for another. I excercise, eat healthy and I have tried dam near every product, hundreds of wasted dollars. I tried rice water, aloe vera plant, huni u name it. I cant get past my neck area or shoulder tip. Maybe its my gene's idk , i have given up at this point. Your hair is beautiful 😍

      Have you tried stretching your relaxer by wearing protective styles for a long period of time? I’m embarking on a 1 year journey by wearing only protective styles the entire year. I’m washing my mini twists 2 times per month for 3 months, then taking it down for a week and then a new protective style. I prefer crochet braids but I’m praying this will be successful for me! I just want half the length of April’s hair, that’s all I’m asking for Lord!

    How long do you recommend waiting to go into a sew in after relaxing? I feel like waiting too long means I have to use more heat to blend my leave out.

    • @luvdahair

      Honestly i would say wait maybe a week or 2 just so that your hair can go back to normal and regain a little strenght, and i also think it would cause less breakage that way☺️

    Hey! Great video, quick question if i’m understanding the protective style portion right, if i’m getting my relaxer every 8 weeks, at 8 weeks put my hair into a protective style for 12 weeks? I’m trying to create a regimen I had a setback I haven’t recovered from in the last 2 years I was almost mid back and a natural hairstylist (my sisters cousin-more horror stories from her other clients as well) was jealous and gave me incorrect information to talk me into being natural i didn’t want to and continuously botched my hair. I’m having the hardest time especially since the products my hair thrived off of have been discontinued

    What I don’t get is that my hair was the longest, shiniest, and thickest it’s ever been when I was severely depressed during the pandemic. I just kept it back in a ponytail. Maybe had the mental ability to wash it twice a month. Maybe actually combed it thrice a month - depending on whether it not I was able to hang out with friends. Relaxed about every 3 months. No scarf. No pillowcase. Barely eating (down to 97 lbs). Couldn’t sleep. Hated being middle aged, living alone, forced celibate, with a hole in me where my husband was.
    Was able to keep the thick, long hair for about a year. Then I did a short tour (4 shows) with a weak relaxer and my hair has been angry ever since.

    So you’re saying that if you are coming close to needing a relaxer that you shouldn’t get a protective style because you could possibly weaken the line of demarcation?

    • @joshie19922
      @joshie19922 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends, I relax every 3-4 months, the important thing is do is keep ur hair moisturized. A spray bottle with you leave in mixed with a water and oil. Spray every day or every two days. You should have any issues

    I dont agree when you say it doesnt make sense to get a relaxer before protective style . Personally i experience so much hair loss if i do not relax my hait before the style the takedown damages my hair because the roots gets soo tangled no matter what protective style.

      Water alone with dry out relaxed hair. You need an emollient and oils along with water, so just get a good liquid spray leave in to use while your hair is on a protective tube style.

    While there’s truth in your first statement, 80% of those ladies return to their natural hair after a year/a year and half. If you want to successfully relax your hair, you have to first know how to care for it in it’s natural state.
